    I have worked on many GR series engines since they were new. Every time I have seen the cylinder 6 bearing be spun has been due to either being ran low on oil due to oil cooler ruptures or having a ruptured VVT-i supply pipe for bank 1. Bearing 6 is the last bearing to receive oil in the engine. Most of the time with that failure, the exhaust cam gears will show some separation as well.

    You guys can sure beat fast and furious with your car creations. The MR2 was a with of art. The conversion alone from 4: to 6 cyl in that cramp mid engine required a lot of automotive engineering skills. While it broke down as the new owner was about to take it home, it didn't disappoint me at all. I saw your you tube channel accidentally thanks to social distancing with this pandemic. As a store parts manager retiree from one the US larger auto parts and service chain, I'm impressed by your enthusiasm, technical expertise in every vehicle that you work on. That MR2, Nissan 240sx, Subaru STI are examples of what highly skilled technicians like your group "Throittl" can do like an artist that executes painting murals or sculptures. In the 25+ yrs with that auto parts chain, I never saw a tech that would work on a car that would do it correctly the first time. The come backs I had to put up with. The technicians were there just there to make money at the quickest possible way bc if commissions on parts and labor, but at the expense of customers who may find the service done to their cars are not worth the money. You guys will do the work to satisfy your customers. Wish I discovered your you tube channel much earlier. That MR2 would be worth winning as it was manual transmission. Will continue to watch your channel from New Jersey. BTW, I still drive 6 speed manual transmission 05 Nissan Xterra 4x4. It's got only 55K miles on the odometer and I'm a real senior, senior that never owned an automatic transmission vehicle.

  • @shujabeg7625

    • @DirtyMechanicG35
      @DirtyMechanicG35 Před 4 lety

      Earl Moorhead scoring a bearing usually doesn't lead to a spun bearing. Only thing that really destroys a bearing that quick and like that is pure lack of oil.

    • @earlmoorhead5555
      @earlmoorhead5555 Před 4 lety

      DirtyMechanic scored bearing shows that there is dirt in the system (in the oil ) lack of oil could also ruin a bearing quick but it would show on all bearing not just one rod 30 years of racing and seeing debris get into motor can plug up oiling system to one rod since there is sign on the other bearing it’s a real good guess that something was in the oiling system

    • @ryanmclafferty5019
      @ryanmclafferty5019 Před 4 lety

      Earl Moorhead it was the last bearing to get oil in the bottom end so if the pump did run dry it it would be the first bearing to suffer. All the scoring will be from bearing material circulating through the engine. Old mate is right just a lack of oil

    • @earlmoorhead5555
      @earlmoorhead5555 Před 4 lety

      Ryan Mclafferty lack of oil would show up on main bearing as well as you see all bearing looked new we know it’s lack of oil but why ??? Two things I know one is something plugged the oil hole to that bearing one is bearing moved and covered the hole due to stretched rod bolts or heat the other is something plugged the passages to that journal but to just say lack of oil to me means the oil in the pan ran dry I’m saying I don’t believe the oil pan was low on oil sucking air and only damaging one rod bearing that the sign I saw watching this little bit of info from the video 👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥

    No surprise that it was bearings. I was more surprised the engine noise wasn’t picked up before the high revving clip. It was that loud during the drive to the highway.
    It could be an incorrectly installed bearing which could have lead to said oil starvation. One can only suspect you deliberately wrecked the engine to provide the content simply because it was that noticeable.
    Anyway nice content, because despite knowing it was the bearing, I still watched.

    • @326piotrekify

      My bet is, they used a "thick" oil, with performance driving in mind, and the guy who won the car smashed the gas pedal when it wasn't up to temperature. The oil cooler didn't help also. Now, I could be completely wrong since I don't remember what oil they put in it, or if they installed an oil thermostat.
      Anyways, the video was very interesting and educational in a sense. And the motor sounds absolutely sensational. Great work overall!

    Check it out, I use to work at a toyota dismantlers and we found guys who Used the Blacktop/Silvertop 4AGE FWD (Levin) in a RWD orientation, It would spin bearings as the oil pickup was designed to have the oil collect at the back of the sump under acceleration, but now that its in reverse it will starve the pump when the oil collects in the wrong place. maybe dry sump to eliminate that issue next time. All the best with your future Vids, really enjoyed it. All the way here from NZ!

    Back when I rebuilt my 4G63 in my Talon, The set of main bearing I received were improperly drilled and only lined up with 80% of the oiling port on #4. I only found this out once it spun a rod bearing and I took it apart and noticed. Sometimes things just don't go right lol

      4G63 was a damn good engine though. had a 96 Galant with one in it. the auto trans was crap but I ripped down the autostrada in Italy more than once at 140mph+ in that car. (all stock btw) 3rd and last time the trans went, i junked it rather than ship it back to the states. Mitsubishi knew there was a manufacturing defect in those transmissions too. they swept the filed complaints under the rug to avoid a recall and got raided by their version of the FBI.

    Might be the flywheel clutch combination that was being used. That's what failure closer to the fly wheel is... Also why I try to avoid puck clutches while it does increase clamp force it also unevenly places load on the flywheel and the next inline, the crank.
