It's still worth noting that keeping it simple will definitely be preferred the more expensive and higher grade the meat gets. When you're shelling out for a Wagyu A5 like Guga has at times, he'll even hold-off on the garlic powder. The flavor and texture in the meat itself will come through, and the purpose of the cooking technique becomes more about letting the ingredient speak for itself, and less to prove who's better at cooking, as would be in a competition.
That’s a great point. I would never consider doing either of those flavor profiles on an A5.
