Lets Pray Together | Kagyu Monlam | Explained! སྨོན་ལམ།
Hi Tashi Delek, I am your host Acharya Choedak, So, in this year, as most of the you guys already know that annual Kagyu Monlam is impossible to be held as usual, but Kagyu Monlam Organization is doing their best to carry on this important continuation Monlam Prayer Program, and with their best effort and hard work, finally first time ever, the Online Asia kagyu Monlam is coming soon, that means, as for us devotees and fellow dharma friends, we are getting this such wonderful opportunity to reconnect our heart towards dharma, even though we are in the middle of this great deal of epidemic crisis, even though, some of the us might be in difficult situation. I sincerely want to say, do not be disheartened, do not give up your hope and most importantly, do not lose your faith in three jewels, which is why this time i really hope and appreciate if all of you could participate and join the Monlam Online, lets pray together, keep our faith strong and stand for the world.
So friends, this was my sort of an announcement and now if you have sometime, let me share some of the my opinions and reasons that this year we need to do the Monlam Prayer more than ever before for obvious reason.
But before that if you don’t know what an exactly Monlam is?
A word Monlam is Tibetan syllabus, which means an aspiration or well-wishes
Really, Monlam can be anything that comes from your pure heart, it can be well wishes for your dear ones, a mother’s well wishes for her son. Its as I already said, according to Tibetan Buddhism, Monlam is Aspiration Prayer, or great Prayer Gathering, The event of Monlam in Tibet was established around back in 14th century. All the four major schools in Tibetan Buddhism has their Monlam prayer occasion in every year, which is mainly focus on longevity life of their root Gurus, special teachers and well being for the world.
Though the Kagyu Monlam begins around 15th Century, in Tibet, where the 7th Karmapa, Chödrak Gyatso, established the tradition of great prayer gatherings. In India, the Monlam tradition began in 1983, when two great lamas in the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, Kalu Rinpoche and Bokar Rinpoche, began holding annual prayer gatherings at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya.
During the Monlam prayers, many of the devotees participate from all across the world with their strong faith and devotion, so without any doubt Monlam is the most beneficial for the better world, Because it is lead by precious Gurus, Because it is done by great gathering of Sanghas, because it is prayer of the countless devotees, the accumulation merit of the Monlam is immense, it has blessings from Buddhas and bodhisattva from ten directions of the universe, It helps to overcome with one’s suffering, it heals diseases, it brings peace upon conflicted mind.
So, I encourage you to join with us, together we pray, together we stay strong, stronger than we could ever be, and together overcome with this pandemic which is crippling the world, damaging the global economy, affecting the livelihood of individual’s life and together we rise and rise way higher than this crisis.
lets pray for the people who is on the front-line, who is trying hard to keep us safe. Lets pray for the doctors and nurses, who is working tirelessly by day and night. Lets pray for the people who is bravely fighting with this virus. Lets pray for the peaceful soul those who lost their life. Lets pray for the survivor. Lets pray for the soldiers who protect our countries. Lets pray for the leaders who serve the citizen selflessly. Lets pray for the fireman, the police officer and the teachers.
Lets pray for the safety of our parents, husband, wife, daughters and sons. Lets pray for everyone. Pray for better environment, pray for the nature, pray for wildlife. Pray for the world Peace! lets Pray for Our Uncertain Times!
Now last but definitely not the lest, lets pray for long live to all our Vajra Masters from all the sects and doctrines, and particularly for karma Kagyu lineage, our root guru his holiness The Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorjee and four heart-sons, and all the Rinpoche and Teachers. May you always be healthy and free from all the obstacles, May your Precious Dharma Teaching prevail on the earth.
