That’s what threw me off, too. The blue spider against that soft background was stark.
I always watch these with Goodreads open and add so many books to my TBR shelf! Very grateful for these videos!

Joe Abercrombie is one of my all time favourite authors. He balances darkness and humor so well in my opinion. And his character work is truly unparalleled.
When Dead and Breakfast comes out you should make a blog reading all the cozy mysteries that use that pun (that I had to scroll through trying to find this book)

I was somehow BLESSED with an arc of The Favorites and I'm currently reading it for lalathon (stories about obsession) and really enjoying it. It's super different than her other books though. I would not call it a romance but there is a relationship at the center of the story.
I just read The Favorites and it's my favorite book of the year so far! It does have a love story at the center of it, but it's definitely literary fiction. It's also got documentary film transcripts interspersed throughout. It's also thrilling as the whole book is building up to this big reveal of something shocking that happened at the olympics, but it's by no means a thriller. It's also a retelling of Wuthering Heights! I was living my best life with it but I'm also a figure skater lol

Oh, I'm excited for Mother-Eating. I really enjoy books told in an atypical format, and I always love anything related to Marie Antoinette and/or Texas, lol. And I might pick up the new Marisha Pessl. I quite liked Night Film and have had Special Topics in Calamity Physics on my shelf for a while. I actually had no idea she was writing YA, somehow I missed Neverworld Wake. I just put it on hold at my local library.
Neverworld Wake is sooooo good. Granted I read it years ago but it is very much my taste

I got a recommendation for everyone I normally do horror and thriller and every so often a contemporary gets me. Husband's by Holly Gramazio is a refreshing new concept and I can't put it down. I haven't finished it but top 3 for the year. Give it a try

I have so many books I am waiting for to come out this year that I couldn't possibly name them all here. But you may like Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid, other than that my other recommendations are high Fantasy or Romance which I know aren't your thing.

I read Ghost Eaters by Clay McLeod Chapman recently and found it laughably bad, so I don’t overly suggest trying out Wake up and Open Your Eyes. But hey, maybe he’s improved.
