GW: We are gonna complete shake up Space Marines in 2 weeks but here’s a bunch of boxes that may or may not be good then
I was tempted to grab the Raven box as I could use the Warsuits or the Iron box for some heavy squads, but stopped myself for that reason. I only could use half of either box and that money will most likely be much more useful for me in a month or two, as opposed to impulse buying some models on my wish list just because a new 'bundle' is out. They almost got me, but not this time!
Can't wait for Cawl to develop the slightly taller Secundus Marines
I like the theory that these were supposed to come out alongside new codex supplements for Space Marines, but due to printing delays the timing was messed up so they just put these boxes out with no obvious reason behind them. (The minis are made in the UK but everything is printed in China which has caused numerous supply issues over the past year apparently)
Imperial Fists box should come with a rattle can of Averland Sunset. It's the single most important part of making a Fists army.

You can get a much richer yellow by priming in wraithbone, before basing in emperor's children, and *then* painting averland overtop
I read colour forge does a spray which is an exact match if you can get one of those.
It should also come with 3 upgrade sets so you actually have a Gravis shoulder for each model instead of 6 of them.
That Imperial Fist box is CRAZY good savings in Aus, the box is $350, buying them all separately is $549, so 199 savings, that's fantastic imo, I'm making a custom chapter and was planning on picking up the Ultramarines box, however it might also be good for me to grab the Imperial fist box too!

@@lv100Alice Personally for me, I'm building for the fun of building, not to actually play the game, I come from D&D, so I prefer writing the backstory to my chapter than playing the game, I do have the Into The Dark boxset, so I'm looking to start playing Kill Team, but I probably won't touch 40K til 10th ed this year
On the back of the Ravenstrike box it states the transfers are in included. I got three sheets in mine.

I do think an aspect you're not considering is the value of the box to starting a new SM army. The Iron Hands one for instance is fantastic for that, giving you everything you need for a core SM force (intercessors, dreads, a techmarine, and a captain model you can convert fairly easily into any chapter).
That Iron Hands box is really tempting...no, everybody and their mom do not have dreadnaughts lying around!

I started a Salamanders army last year and the Salamanders Battleforce is perfect for me.
Ooooh, most of these new Battleforce boxes will work as Dark Angels with minimal effort... so thumbs up from me 👍
Imma have to disagree on the Salamanders box set. 20 Intercessors is honestly way too much and would've been beneficial for another set of aggressors or eradicators. Hellblasters would've been great. Basically all these space marine Battleforces could be paired with any space marine combat patrol except the Salamanders one because you'll eventually rack up a ton of intercessors which you don't need to do.
The Primaris chaplain on a bike does fit the white Scars considering they are all about that bike life and the Ultra Marines box set is probably the most battle ready set and offers the most points. I think it's the only 1000 box set
Your going to want like 3-4 more upgrade sprues for the IF box. Not enough shoulders for all that Gravis. You will have plenty of normal marine ones though.
I find it funny how Jay compliments the Salamanders box up and down, but in the Salamanders Players community most people hate it because it has "way too many Intercessors for a Salamanders Army". They say, you'll only need 10 Intercessors max and that the box should have had more Aggressors instead. But it's most likely that GW made these boxes for players wanting to start these Armies, not those who already play them..

There is a thing in Card Games where there's a design pressure to make starter decks/new player products bad or mediocre to ensure that they're actually on the shelves for new players to buy. I kind of assume that putting unique characters in these is a push in that direction? They see how any "too good" box gets multi-purchased off the shelves by existing players.
Forget this lot, thought I'd missed the Sororitas Christmas box but Element Games in the UK still had them, however my Christmas gift to myself was some Forge World Escher stuff for Necromunda. My next couple of months are going to be building/converting (from Genestealer Cults bikes and vehicles)/upgrading an Ash Wastes Escher Gang. The bases will feature real ash - I smoke to much. (BTW I lied about my Christmas present to my self I spent a fortune on minis and games). Happy New Year and keep up the good work.
You can still buy them in the US
Cig ash and super glue makes razor sharp concrete lol. My friend based his Tyranids in ash. It will discolor your models over the years though, just a heads up.

For the Ravenstrike box, let’s be honest, jump pack Primaris are coming. You can probably kitbash Shrike into the Jumpack Lieutenant you know they’re gonna make. Also hopefully they make invictors better but that’s hard to get around

tbh i love all the combat patrols and battleforces! As someone who just got back into the hobby after ~18 years it's all marvelous to me! I can buy almost every box and i get a great "painting fun value" for money. Back in like 2000 you'd spent a bucket of cash and your models still sucked, huge moldlines, slipping, gaping holes, nothing ever fit. Regular troop models today are at the quality of golden demon winning conversions back in the day!
Yeah I played back in the late 90’s and I have the same impression. Back then I played Dark Angels but today I’m in GSC though.
Reivers are my favourite looking SM. How’re they not good 😩
I picked up the Fists box for use with my Dark Angels successor. A literal Gravis "Wing" all in one go. :)

They actually DO SAY in the warcom article for all the new battleforces that these come with the upgrades and transfers, even showing off an ultramarine sargeant with those upgrades included, so either you DO get them, or you can absolutely complain to customer service and get them
I have a bad feeling these were supposed to be the 9th Edition Codex supplement launch boxes, but the supplements got canceled and the cardboard boxes are now being dumped out with some minis.
The Iron Hands box plus the Ultramarines box, you've got a pretty strong Ultramarines army
About the Primaris Chaplain for the white scars, as a White Scars player I will say it’s a nice include, he’s my warlord 9 times out of 10
I'm probably going to pick up The Iron Hands boxset and use it as starting point for an Iron Hands Army...despite still working on the Custodes Battleforce Box I got for Christmas...

The point of these boxes is for new players who are starting a space marine army. Literally every box Jay says "well everyone already has these" lol no not everyone already has a redemptor dreadnought

Man Warhammer is expensive in America! Those Christmas boxes are £130 in the uk from GW themselves. But from 3rd party sellers I’ve seen them as low as £105! Which is only like $130-150!

I don't know if you know, but UK economy is in the doldrums, atm... we destroyed our own economy a few years ago, and are currently in the process of making sure it remains... 'not alive'.
Honestly, I think the prices of GW are 'fair', it's a luxury product and you can honestly find a tonne about the company's business ethic online. That's just my own evaluation, I can't give financial advice, lol.

I just wish I could find salamanders stuff like- anywhere. I want to make a squad of them but the strike force, and even the upgrade kits are sold out everywhere.
I think box sets are surplus kits. Kindof feel they got lots of extra SM

The other chapter space marine boxes are going to be similar I was actually disappointed at the lack of individuality that raven guard
/Imperial fist really have in these boxes (no real different chapter "look" compared to each other)
These boxes seem to be aimed at existing players looking for a new army. I may get the White Scar box and see if I can sell the Khan and upgrades.

Uptra player here, id take that box, i have the librarian but that doesnt matter, i always love adding more intercessors and calgar is new, the hellblasters will be new and i love the bladguard i got, ill take 3 more
Great summery! Which I find it interesting that these box come with less models(Exacpt white scars because light vehhices.) then the last few 40K/30K versus boxes yet cost around the same...
I haven't been doing the hobby much, but I brought all them ultramarine units last year individually as they're a good step for me coming back to new 40k ultramarine army.
A year later all these units in one box 😂 has killed my morale.
The only models I bought last year was these models. No more no less 😂
i got the raven guard box it did come with transfer sheets
the same problem is with star wars legion Batteforce, best for new players because most of the factions don't want so many of the same ones anymore, but the rebel set is probably the most interesting

just a little note one the audio EQ for this video: it sounds a little to sharp on the higher 8K Hz+ spectrum.
I really with the salamanders had cooler rules, there the only chapter I really like the look and vibe of. besides the death watch... but there a whole other story.
Keep in mind I am a VERY new player, but its sad for me to see the imperial fists and salamanders due to the fact that I wished they came with maybe 1 "mech" character (if that is possible). Granted you mentioned how most people by this point probably have plenty of them so keeping them out of the other boxes is probably fine, but its mostly a me gripe as a beginner looking for something to maybe start an army
I did consider getting that Bastion Strike Force and converting them to Crimson Fist. But most of those units I already have and its too expensive.
But Dam, I wish that Warforged Strike Force came out last year, that would have helped me so much at making my Salamander army.
I think I might buy the Salamander box, just cause I like the big boy marine suits.
And don't forget, just because each box is for a specific chapter, other then the characters you can use the troops in any chapter.
It might not show on the website but the raven guard DOES come with three raven guard transfer sheets. It's just a shame they tossed reivers in there instead of infiltrators. Or they could have put one sprue of each in but didn't
I grabbed the ravenguard box and it actually includes transfer sheets. Two of them I believe can't check since I put them with the others I already owned.
I also kinda like the box since it is pretty thematic for my sneaky bird boys.
Also: I kinda hoped the christmas boxes meant some changes are close. Since raven guard and imperial fists are objectively the worst chapters at the moment having those two as christmas boxes sounded like a hidden message of sorts. Now with all the others out it seems far less likely.
Is the Raven guard box good for starting a Raven guard army ? I really wanna start playing them but I don't know if the strike force is a good start
@@danfriedman2556 Sorry for the late answer. The choices are all very fluff-y but you won't get a very strong army out of it. Reivers are generally bad. Invictor warsuits are neat with their forward deploy but RG's only support for vehicles is that they get light cover outside 18 inch. Doesn't work well with forward deploy. And the librarian doesn't get access to the librarius discipline which is objectively stronger than the RG one.
Worth noting only 4 of the 14 imperial fist bespoke shoulder pads fit Gravis armour!
The boxes cover art is awesome, but yeah I passed on all of these, got enough Marines with Indomitus and the Imperium magazine. It's a shame!
would not be surprised if we get a return of the 8 box alongside the release of the new farsight (no he wont be included just the rest with maybe an upgrade frame).
I actually got a screamin good deal on the ravenguard one. I don't own a spare marine army and I wanted to do an all phobos army so it worked out pretty good

I think that they might work on combat patrol/battleforce boxes for the 9 traitor legions to compliment these boxes. Yes, that means I think they'll have an Emperors Children product line and codex for Christmas 2023.
i play Iron Hands and i got the Imperial Fist Box.
well with the new rules i'm gonna run 4 x 5 Heavy Intercessors and my friend play Imperial Fist so he got Tor, the upgrade sprue and transfers.
as for the Iron Hands Box, i will not get it, got both Feirros, Techmarines, a Redemptor Dreadnaught and enough Intercessers.
Would have given a little extra umph if these battleforce sets came with the upgrades and transfers. I didn't get that either with my Black Templars battleforce set. Could have been useful.
As a salamanders player I’m disappointed in having 20 intercessors, they could’ve easily dropped 10 and added 3 more aggressors or maybe even 2 ATV bikes

Honestly, I think, bar the custodies and knight battleforces, the imperial battleforces this year weren’t great. My top three are custodies, Death guard, and thousand sons, I picked up all three but the other imperial battleforces( again bar knight, already have 2k knights so I dident look to hard at it) just didn’t seem great this year what do y’all think?
I assumed these boxes were geared towards the omens campaign. Despite my dislike for the Salamanders box it's actually the most beginner friendly to Space marines. The ultra marines one is good as well. You can convert calgar to a Gravis captain as well as the librarian. And his guard can be additional blade guard vets

Auspex thinks ultramarine box does have the upgrade sprue for what it’s worth. Still ends up a poor savings compared to some of the other ones.
I’m probably just going to wait. I don’t need any of the named characters in any box, and each box has enough cons to make me hesitate on grabbing for the pros of it.

The Dark Angels primaris upgrade spruce comes with no transfers period. All the others do!
Also Tor Garadon is the easiest conversion ever, made him into a dark angels Gravis Captain.
Some of these are really tempting me, despite the fact that I dont really wanna buy any more warhammer stuff until I paint more of what I already have, and I dont really want everything in them.
In particular the Iron Hands one and the Ultramarines one, mostly because I do really like techmarines and want a Redemptor for my main Space marine army, and the Ultramarines one would provide me some cool characters for practice and basically all the kitbashing parts I could need between the other units included, especially those bladeguards.
But like at the same time I dont really think I want two Redemptors and a bunch more intercessors, plus the lack of an Ultramarines upgrade sprue is really disappointing because I do also have an Ultramarines army that couldve used that

I disagree with the assessment of the Salamanders/Ultramarines boxes. That two squads of Intercessors in the Sally box really hurts my soul. One squad I could deal with but that second squad just feels like a lazy inclusion because GW couldn't think of what else to add. The Ultramarines box, on the other hand, has a nice wide smattering of different units with better variety and points value.
I'm kinda hoping they'll do a cool Dark Angel's box next. I got really excited for the Iron Hands box, but 2 Dreads and 10 Space Marines. At least give us a sprue of 10 robotic arms to add to each one of them, maybe even have a couple more with Tech style power pack upgrade

I think fundamentally the fact that there are so many Marine boxes throughout all the years just makes any upcoming box a bad deal because the second hand market for even unopened boxes is just saturated.
As a salamanders player/fan I feel disrespected. Less intercessors. Make their eradicator and aggressor squad into five instead of three. I would have also made them heavy intercessors instead. Salamanders love gravis.
We all know jump Primaris are coming eventually so Kayvaan will be useful at some point as a jump Captain.
I agree, the Reivers ruin the appeal of the Ravenstrike BF box, and its a shame the Space Marines “Terror” unit is such a joke. At the very least, Reivers need Pistol 2 (or 3) and they shouldn’t need to choose between their Combat Knife and a Bolt Carbine; they should just get both. Their Terror aura incentivizes them to get into melee with their enemy, but having the Carbine gives them the ranged threat they need to be a well-rounded unit.
I feel like the choice between the Knife and the Carbine was forced because of the miniature; GW wanted Reivers to look bad ass wielding their knives and pistols, and didn’t want to include slung Carbines because they wanted them to look lean and mean. It’s ridiculous that any Space Marine unit has to choose between a gun and a knife. A gun and a sword, yes; but not a knife!
If Reivers were fixed (perhaps in 10e?), the Ravenstrike BF box would have much greater appeal.
I would enjoy if you could maybe make a list of push or snapfit models. I prefer them generally and I would like to know if a few good boxes or if you could please say if there pushfit
I'd would have totally got the ultramarines box if not for 2 things
1) I don't really need the intercessors, I much prefer assault intercessors.
2) I just literally got Calgar from Imperium magazine 🤣

I'd look at the Black Templar combat patrol box. A couple of troops choices, character and a transport.

I've been in the hobby for 28 years, but haven't painted anything in 20, so wanting to get back into it but need to buy all the paints etc. Looking to buy a box to start an army, but I'm waiting for more info to drop on 10th edition. If anyone has any money saving tips or places to buy essentials in the UK, please hit me up!
10th will be next summer I reckon! Don't count on it though.. but it couldn't hurt to just buy some stuff to build and paint in the meantime
Ebay is your friend. With some paint stripper you can rescue old models for cheap to use as practice.
Paint wise check for bundles and stick to Vallejo or army painter or really any other brand than GW. They upsell their paints to a ludacris degree.
GW paints are crap, I agree with that, you'll want a decent brand in a dropper style bottle like Army Painter or Vallejo if you're in Europe, if you're in the states something like reaper paints might be easier to get as they're made in Texas

Do you think that these will be around for long? Like, will they be around for a short period of time like the Christmas boxes, or are they a "new thing" like the Combat Patrol boxes? What does everyone think?
One and gone. They don't like keeping these kinds of boxes in stock.
@@gaborboth3602 Then the question becomes "for how long"?. Since it was just Christmas, most people don't have that much money left. And the ones who wanted to spend money on WH Christmas deals has probably already done so.

I think Gw has decided that unique characters maximize these boxes going to new players ( and new future sales for them).
