    Thank you very much, this video was very helpful. We never thought we could do something like that.

    3:23 eyeballing it and gradually tightening the caliper is the best method.

    Great video. What is the name of the Disc Rotor measuring tool you are using in the video and where can I buy it? Thanks

    So did you have to install a longer brake cable or were you able to get out the rotor rub?

    • @KyrosHouseCycling
      @KyrosHouseCycling  Před rokem

      No I just had enough cable in the frame to change from 160 to 140. 👍

    I am trying to change Giant Propel's front from 160mm to 140mm.. it seems I cannot use the mounting braket just upside down.. Did you use a mounting braket from TekPro?.. and How about the length of the brake line? easy to pull it down?? or I have to change the line??

      No the bracket came with the calliper, I built the bike myself so left a little slack in the forks, the cable in your bike might be too short to change the size. If so you’ll need to change the cable. 👍

    How you do it on the rear?

    How is the breaking performance with the 140mm rotor on front ?

    • @KyrosHouseCycling
      @KyrosHouseCycling  Před rokem +3

      At the speed I go I don’t notice, it’s probably just I’ve gotten used to it, in theory there’s less stopping power and I’ve seen tests done but I can’t say I notice. 👍

    What's the size of the brake pads, on ur 140mm?

    • @KyrosHouseCycling
      @KyrosHouseCycling  Před 2 lety

      I'm not sure they are just a standard size pad that fits the Ultegra Caliper

    How about the rear brakes? Is the stock brake mount can fit to 140mm rotor ?

    • @KyrosHouseCycling
      @KyrosHouseCycling  Před 5 měsíci

      Yeah 140 on the back, can’t see a way to make it 160. 👍

    Why did you decide to downsize the front rotor?

    • @KyrosHouseCycling
      @KyrosHouseCycling  Před rokem

      Purely as I didn’t like the 160 really, and 140 provides enough brake for me. I suppose for safety I should have a 160… who knows. 👍

    Why do people change from 160 to 140?

  • @windscreen91
    @windscreen91 Před 6 měsíci

    Most likely, the reason your calipers wouldn't center up on the rotor is because the frame needs to be refaced. It is a super common issue, and even high end bikes seem to suffer from it.

  • @ayowser01

    Why would you ever switch to a 140mm front? I could see a reason for going 140 in the rear, but not the front.

    • @KyrosHouseCycling
      @KyrosHouseCycling  Před rokem +2

      I found 160mm to much break, and I didn’t like the size. sounds silly but I’m only riding at 30 kph max. 👍

    • @stephen_101
      @stephen_101 Před rokem +1

      It can really help with braking stability if the front brake is too powerful, to the point of being dangerous. I've seen cyclocross bikes being fitted with 140mm front, 160mm or 180mm rear just to keep things more stable. It works well as long as you spend a little time re-learning your braking technique.

    • @KyrosHouseCycling
      @KyrosHouseCycling  Před rokem +3

      @@stephen_101 well I haven’t had any problems yet, I’m only a 30kph average when I ride so nothing fast. 👍

      On only my third ride on disc brakes in a paceline something unexpected occurred when a car pinched the marked shoulder. I locked up the rear and almost slid out. Converting the rear to 140mm seems to be the only available solution.

      @@jimlewandowski7648 or you can just learn how to brake properly. And sliding of the rear is not that dangerous in most cases. Just try to do this intentionally sometimes when no traffic around.
