  • The medical laboratory testing cycle can be conceptually divided into three phases: The pre-examination phase, the examination phase and the post-examination phase..
This is a poetic presentation which describes some commonly encountered errors in the pre-examination processes of medical laboratories.
Errors that occur in pre-examination processes can pose a huge risk to patients.

Who is the audience for this video?
If it's for students, the content is too dry and lacks sufficient "story" or reasons as to why they should take the subject seriously. Everyone learns the textbook descriptions of medical errors in school and it is repeated in every course. This video presents nothing new to that. However, what is currently missing in education is the human element: what happens to the patient when these errors happen. Specific stories would be fantastic at getting this message across, and the emotional appeal would ensure students remember the message.
If it's for current laboratory personnel, then the video comes off as condescending. Simply reading causes of laboratory error is not going to teach most existing professionals anything, and encourages them to stop listening to the video because all it communicates is you think we do not know these basic sources of error already or maybe you are not educated enough on the subject to elaborate beyond the bare basics. With current professionals, a better approach would be exploring systemic causes and suggesting possible solutions to some of these lab errors or exploring tips to help identify preanalytical errors more effectively during the analytical phase. If stories can be included that would help strengthen your presentation significantly.
I'm a current laboratory professional who has been trying to find better content on lab errors and it's frustrating when every video on the subject is just the same basic list of preanalytical causes over and over again. Like, I get it. It just would be nice to get more useful information on actual lab errors to learn from.
