I like the Zhou Shen's vertion better.
I like it, too, but you still have Jay Chou to thank.If he hadn't created we wouldn't have heard it today.
The show "Flowing Melodies" is to honour all those Chinese classics, and every episode has a theme of sorts. Zhou Shen's episode is looking at songs/singers that drew inspiration from ancient Chinese music elements, lyrics, etc.
Jay Chou collaborated with the lyricist (who is famous for having that sort of old classical touch) to write this song "Fade Away", as well as many other of his hits (e.g. "Blue and White Porcelain")
Zhou Shen's take on this song is also so good, because he brings a sort of ethereal feeling to it - plus he's had a lot of experience in singing songs with that ancient sound.

Hey Jack, if you wanna know, it's a very sad story. The story of this song is about 1,500 years ago, a general and a young woman fell in love at first sight, but were separated by the war. The woman spent her whole life waiting for her lover to come back, unfortunately, till the end of her life, she didn't meet him again. After the war, her lover finally returned, what he found is only a ruined city.

Do you guys prefer the Zhou Shen or the Jay Chou version?
They're both pretty valid. There's also another cover done by Liu Yuning and Lil Ghost in the Chinese TV show (episode 8) that takes a more hard rock approach, if you're interested.
Actually, I highly recommend checking out this show too since Zhou Shen is also a participant - plus it'll introduce you to a lot of other amazing Chinese singers and songs ❤️
Jay, because he made the song, that isn't easy one.
Jay Chou is my idol.
I would definitely choose him to sing better.
But if Zhou Shen sings someone else's song,
I 100% support zhou shen's singing.

周深的版本明显好过周杰伦。周杰伦唱的我听过一遍就再也不想听了，唱的真的不好。

我觉得还是周杰伦的那个版本那个好一点，感觉这首歌觉得不应该空灵，而是得带一种半沧桑（非沙哑），带点男性化的感受好点。或者再带点戏腔的那种感觉会更有中国风。
周杰伦的歌他自己唱的我全部不喜欢。别人唱的我喜欢比如 菊花台
