    FIrst time doing a flush on an automatic transmission. Not to difficult just a little time consuming. Sadly though it didnt fix our current first gear issue but at least the car still drives fine using the manual mode.

    Off topic from the video but leave some more ideas on brake caliper colors! I was leaning towards black/grey but honestly light blue sounds dope or maybe like a light gold? Lmk

    Get some axle stands,,bit sketchy relying on just the jack

      He eventually put the front tires on top of two wheels. So that was better. I would also suggest wearing safety glasses when spraying brake cleaner above your head.

    Great Video, couple things for those at home watching, NEVER drain the fluid until you can make sure you can get it back it. Should always undo the fill plug first. In this case the underside is immaculate but the plug could be stripped or worse.

    Dude please use axle stands 😳 it scares me watching you not use them, I've heard of horror stories where jacks fail! Just trying to look out for you my man ✌🏼

      My friend nearly died recently from this. Car just randomly dropped when jack failed. He was trapped for a while suffocating and gave up when luckily a friend was passing by and got the car off him

    Im so glad the fill plug came out because you drained it first iv had a buddy drain his and then found out his fill hole was seized so had to order new pan he couldnt fill the car. But this process is pretty much the same process as the mk5 and newer dsg trans flush too thats cool.

      Could be the solenoid our v8 touareg had and issue shifting like this we were able to shift in manual mode but it got worst and we had to change the whole valve body.

    I'm about to do the same to my car, including jacking my car on top of some wheels. I'm doing a ATF flush, filter replacement, with new gaskets and seals. It's going to be very helpful seeing what you did. 👍🏻

    I was having an issue with my Malibu maxx transmission where it would shift super super hard every once in a while and do it until it cooled off. I did the fluid and filter change and it smoothed it out well but it happened a few more times… I did some research and found it could be a solenoid or it could just be dirty. Long story short, I put a whole bottle of seafoam trans-tune and after maybe 20 ish miles it was completely gone and shifting smoother than ever. I now have put over 5k miles on it no problem. Doesn’t hurt to try. It’s technically a fluid stabilizer and cleaner

      It is the Malibu on my channel that I’m doing a series on rn. I haven’t posted the video with the trans flush yet but my most recent video shows it shifting hard and the symptoms. I had an 01 vr6 Jetta 02j with 80k miles that I fixed up on there which was my first project. Such a fun car!

  • @blue32nu

    Could be a sensor on the trans that needs replacing. I had a mk4 with auto and it wouldn't shift past 3rd gear. Changed a sensor (speed sensor I think) and it fixed the problem.

      Could be the range sensor. They can get worn out. Car doesn't know which gear it's in.

  • @gardenstateflatlandb
    @gardenstateflatlandb Před 5 měsíci

    Did you ever sort the issue?
    Recent picked up a FWD GLX beater myself that is turning into a real project. Came with zero service history. Super clean, and solid bones, but definitely neglected in areas that NEED consistent servicing.
    Narrowed the trans issue down to the position sensor/neutral safety switch.
    Engine misfires, and trans sorted. Just need fluids changed, and timing belt/water pump cuz no idea if that was ever done, and the car is at that critical 80k now.
    Not looking forward to removing the entire front end to do it, but I guess its better than some cars where you gotta remove the entire engine.
    But anyway, just curious if you ever got that sorted out. Didnt see any follow up videos about it, unless I missed something.

    You'll need VCDS to do some sort of adaptation if it's not going into drive.
    I don't exactly know what's involved in trans adaptation but think that will sort your problem.
    Failing that my money would be on the solenoid, which is kinda expensive and they are trans specific.
    And I think swapping components from new solenoid to new one makes it work because trans will think is the same solenoid.

  • @jimcraig6435
    @jimcraig6435 Před rokem

    The old gasket and pan looked way too clean and the old oil was brown, but not nasty black. It had definitely been serviced recently. Bummer it didn't fix the issue. Hopefully you can get to the bottom of it. Changing the fluid at LEAST every 30k is critical. Manual trans seem to go on forever but autos need a little more attention.

    Good idea doing the oil change, i am about to do this on my 2002 W8 along with the output shaft seal and the transmission range sensor. It looks like the fault might have something to do with the transmission range sensor, maybe not. Have you checked for any fault codes? Great cars to work on, I have had 3 5.5s.

      So I literally just got done with flushing transmission. I had purchased a gasket and fluid kit from fceuro and I noticed the tranny fluid is more transparent vs the one I’ve been getting at my local oreilys which seemed to be more red. So far I’ve only driven car from car port to gate and back which is about 200ft. I will drive it to town tomorrow to get gas (15 min drive round trip) and I will post whatever I find however I think my tranny fluid pan is leaking a little I need to figure that part out, I believe previous owner may have stripped some bolts and threads!!!!
