yes, that's so scary... I wouldn't even know where to escape to be safe. 😢
The scariest part is the moment you realize that 70 people in these footages are not there with us anymore. You might have seen them, you might have passed by them at the entry, and then they're gone.

Even scarier is that he was able to buy the weapons legally

And very alarming police press conferences with a skitzy sheriff Lombardo and his FBI handler... strange
that's why drastic gun control measures compared to what we have now, is the only real way to prevent this kind of thing. you can't predict it.
@Benjamin Esterberg well statistics would prove you very wrong. They pretty much never have school shootings or mass shootings in other countries where they have strict gun control measures.
Well done NYT. This is great journalism it’s incredible how everything was explained very clearly and in details in only 11 mins. R.I.P to all the victims 😔

Well done reporting. Well done LVPD... it hard to imagine how, but this tragedy could have been even worse if not for the quick response and decisive actions taken that day.

Both my cousins were working at Mandalay at the time of the shooting. One at Kumi and the other at the receptionist desk. I'll never forget being in 7th grade living in my home in Seattle, WA, waking up at 7:00 a.m. on October 2nd, 2017, and heading to the living room to get my phone. When I turned on my screen, I only saw one notification. A single headline:
LAS VEGAS MASSACRE - At least 50 dead, 200 more injured
I know, that doesn't sound so traumatizing since I wasn't actually there but given that I was just in Las Vegas earlier that summer, it felt slightly closer to home. When I went to Vegas again the following summer, my grandma warned me not to aim my laser pointer at the city, which we had a clear view of from our resort near North Las Vegas. She said that the shooter had laser pointers on his guns and if you aimed it at the city, it could really scare some of the people who were there that night. That was the day I think I really understood what trauma meant and what it does to people, it's not something you can just get over after a few days. Not all scars are on your skin, some are lying right there on the top of your mind. My condolences go out to all of the families who suffered losses on such a tragic day.

Turning up the house lights was probably a mistake, gave him an even better view of where people were.
Or maybe it gave them visibility to escape. Just imagine people tripping over bodies and getting trampled by those trying to flee. When these situations happen, people will literally step on you to save themselves.
@@85tillinfinity37 That's what happened anyway, the trampling. A lot of people were injured by others in the panic to get out.
All I know is that when I've spent a lot of time in a darkened area, suddenly turning on the lights makes it harder to see for a few seconds until my eyes adjust.
Dunno if the shooter had the same problem, but if so, once his vision adjusted he had a well lit target area to see where people were going. With the lights out he would've had to guess where people were, as they didn't say anything about him having night vision goggles.
Don't get me wrong, I'm *not* saying the person who turned the lights on meant to make things easier for the shooter. I'm sure he/she did it because they thought like you, to help people escape. Did you know that during the Las Vegas shooting Stephen Paddock supposedly spent 3000 rounds of ammunition over the course of 10 minutes from 27 AR15's with bump stocks. This would have required him to drop a gun after each 30 round magazine was emptied. But videos from survivors show that it was a non-stop stream with ammunition from firing much higher than a bump stock is capable of producing from multiple locations that appear to be M240 LMG's. More interesting is the fact that after the FBI took over the investigation his house somehow burned down with all the evidence, and the photos from the room where he shot from only shows 50 spent shells. Years later we still have no motive and there was no follow up on the biggest mass shooting in US history.
Exactly, and when your using a bump stock. The bump stock, and your finger have to be positioned perfect everytime rapid fire. It's not possible to fire that many rounds. From multiple weapons equipped with bump stocks and perfectly simulate rapid fire. From the moment he pulled the trigger on each weapon.

We were so shocked at such a tragic thing could happen at a Jason concert, and even more terrified that had she been able to go, they would have been there. Now when something comes up and we are not able to do something, this puts things into perspective. You just never know how, or why things unfold the way they do. I can remember being in a TGI Fridays back in the day when they were open, and used to do the NTN trivia thing nationwide. We always went there to eat and play a bit. One night we went, after we ate, we found out the trivia thing was down. So we left. That night on the 10pm news there was a story of a gunman going into the place and shooting randomly. Based on when it happened, we couldn't have been gone for more than 15 minutes when it happened. So you just never know why things unfold the way they do.
basically your mom put others in harm when she sold them her tickets. should've been my boy stephen paddock's first blood
I have a similar story but related to 9/11. My uncle was a firefighter in Engine 54 in NYC. Earlier in 2001 he had gotten into a car wreck which required surgery and rehab on one of his legs, so he was put on light duty in Division 1. On the day of the attack he was at home in Staten Island starting his vacation leave and getting ready to fly out the next day to visit his parents in Florida. He was outside in his backyard studying for his upcoming captains exam when he learned of the attack. Weeks later he learned that everyone working E-54 that day was killed. “When they say god works in mysterious ways, I then understood why I was in that car wreck”. He just retired a few weeks back, October 2022, as a Battalion Chief. 37 years as a firefighter and thankful he’s still around.
Watching the video and then at 3:04 I see dude chilling finishing his beer
Found it! Thank you NYT!
Horrific tragedy!
Here after the El Paso shooting wondering why this keeps happening more and more.
Because the DS knows people that are gullible will fall for the propaganda.
Wasnt it Ohio today?

first video with objective coverage, and no involvement of political bias
Christina Reynolds that’s the point?
Man you couldnt tell wtf was going when this story broke.
They are afraid to call it a terrorist attack
74 minutes (1 hour 14 minutes) is how long the swat team took to get to his suite, absolutely unacceptable. All the swat team should be exiled for failing to do their job when they have one of the most important job in society.
Okay
My mother was at that concert I’m so blessed she is safe
I'm glad you didn't lose your mom! All moms matter! : )
Can't imagine what you went through. This was tragic
I was a Vegas resident at the time and lived just 7 miles from the incident. I usually frequented The Strip but not that night
still gives me chills 5 years later
This scares me so bad cause this could happen at any public place & you may never know who could do it.
You could also get hit by a car at any public place, or a plane could fall out of the sky, or a random blood-clot could shoot into your brain. No point living scared. Can't control your fate anyways.
ye as long as everyone around you has guns and can purchase them everywhere, you're save, right XD
@@TheMrVengeance exactly.. I live my life so happily and would be honored if I died today.. it's the way it is..
Too bad I have a concealed so I’ll be ok 🙃 one shot is all I need no auto
This is what it's designed to make you scared.. you must face life and death.
My wife and I just went to Vegas. We just happened to get a room a couple of floors away below Paddock’s. It was so bizarre. You could pretty much see his POV. He had an perfect birds eye view of the venue. I saw it. It was almost like looking straight down on it. I could see the airport right behind the venue. You could see the fuel tanks that he hit. You could see everything. Everything seemed amazingly closer in person than it looks on video. He had to have stayed at that room or surrounding rooms already many times to think this through. It was too perfect of a room to do something like this. What an evil angry man. A waste.
Just leave USA and it won't happen ever again
yeah, he was a regular at the casino and the room he was in was comped
As a nurse blogged on You Tube at the time : DID ANYONE SEE THE CLEAR PLASTIC TAPE RESIDUE ON PADDOCKS CLOTHES ??? PADDOCK WAS TIED UP .
What’s his motive?
@@nicopolis7377I believe it was Saudi retribution for 11 Saudis being arrested for “Government corruption “ meth, guns & children are what they liked, Trump put a stop to it..
The cab driver has the biggest pair in Vegas .
Driving around calmly, with no panic, while clearly registering gunfire is unbelievable .
This was so good and tragic all at once. This is one of my biggest fears nowadays... getting hurt having fun minding my business. My condolences and heart goes out to all the families who lost someone that night
it's just so hard to believe this all took place in a window of 15 minutes.... then again, time slows with death and unspeakable horror surrounding you.
And as you may know we have had a few more since then. If Congress wont act in America there definately will be more.
@Frank Rühle You must be one of those trumpeters who say no gun legislature restrictions? No Civilian needs that amount or Military type of guns. No other country in the world has these type of mass shootings you all are sick peole. THE WORLD IS watching.
@@getvnews1918 What about the NZ shooting? It definitely wasn't in America
@@reapz3919 dude ,they banned guns within 2 days after that shooting.
@Frank Rühle Just answer one question, Why do Americans need guns to be safe from Americans?
Hate to be that guy but you don't give cpr to someone who is bleeding heavily. Unless you are positive they are not breathing.
Super Lufc yea i was thinking the same
@That Guy 😂
That Guy hey don’t feel bad
You should change your youtube name to THATGUY indefinately in memory of this comment and in memory of the 68 that died in this tragety. Please consider
just came across this, but its likely she never had EMT training, it's an instinctive reaction and i"m sure he was just trying to do whatever she could to save her ):
My mom works at an nearby hotel near the shooting, the hotel is called Rio, and it's very scary because my mom could have gotten terrified when she heard gunshots, but shes lucky she dosent have to work after 6:00 PM. May god bless the victims in this massacare, and may they rest in peace.
The Rio is not that close to the Mandalay Bay.
Are the windows on the mandalay bay able to be opened? If not that could the reason for the initial shots, to get rid of the window.
This was put together very well. It answered many of my questions. Thank you. Much respect for the dead and injured.
I'm literally feeling sick after watching this
Same man. Makes your stomach churn
Stop lieing
I I've wat he'd 911 Boston bombing and this
3:57 my man had to take his last sip of beer just in case it was his last💔
The way they turned those flood lights on to illuminate the crowd the moment Aldean fled the stage.
1:33 is the proof that most people don't know what gunfire sounds like until they hear multiple shots at a time
Have none of these people ever been to an outdoor gun range? Crazy to think how clueless that crowd was that night. I would have been out after the first few shots.
I live in Ireland there aren’t many guns once I was outside & there was a shooting this guy got shot literally in front of me I hid I wasn’t sure it was bullets I wasn’t sure if it was bomb, bullets, fireworks it’s a very confusing scary situation I froze up like most people do when people don’t know what’s happening they usually just freeze up!
@@notgray88 not all of us live in a country full of mass shootings
@@itumeleng6055 yeah well they do, which is what makes it surprising to me.
