Heyo, you've probably gotten a number of comments on this now, so feel free to ignore if you've seen 'em, but since you're watching the subbed version, I think you ought to know. If you're watching on Netflix, the English [CC] captions follow the dubbed lines, and they're significantly changed from the Japanese. There's another caption option that just says "English", which is a more accurate translation of the version you're watching.

for 2:50, this isnt spoilers as its from side content, but in dungeon meshi the magic system is about spirits doing the magic for you. falin uses the gnome magic system where you basically ask spirits. we know from a previous ep that falin is very in tune with spirits etc so thats why shes good in that regard. marcille on the other hand uses the elf magic system where you force the spirits to do magic for you. its more about the how good the caster is at casting the spells that force the spirits to use magic.
so falin is more intuitive or feeling, and marcille is more logical and booksmart
She would have LOVED Senshi. Learning about the dungeon ecosystem and all. Let’s hope they get to spend time together at some point.

Episode 8 where we find out Falin is Laois' sister and is just as much a weirdo as him
I love that they took the shy, quiet, sweet and soft spoken character type and recontextualized it with her also being neurodivergent. She’s so sweet and silly.
The thing is magic in this world has different categories. Marcille is better as an offensive mage while Falin is a better spirit / supportive mage.
Falin and Marcille have such a wholesome dynamic

It's less that Falin is a better mage and more that she's better at certain things. Much like how an oncologist isn't gonna have the same specialization as a dermatologist despite both being doctors. As we've seen Falin is suited for healing and support as well as having an affinity with dealing with spirits. She's also naturally curious about nature much like Laios is. Marcille's specialization will make itself clear in due time but you can see she's very much from an academic background. Much of her experience comes from controlled environment of her schoolings and she's prolific enough to have a researcher position. That expertise doesn't always immediately apply in a practical setting like an active dungeon.
Its also fair to consider the mages of this world aren't the "carry". They don't normally have the power or means to just go out into shounen power battles like say something in Frieren. Mana is limited and what they can do with it isn't so flexible that they can fly around like like superman firing spells off willy nilly. Not to mention the physical limits like how much they can exert themselves. Heck even healing magic has limits, they can't really heal what isn't there anymore for one. And it's less that they're pumping magic into the body to regain HP and more that they're using magic to carefully reconstruct the cells themselves while stimulating natural healing past it's natural limits. That will naturally still depend of the state of the body and how much energy (calories) that body has. Tldr: This world's magic is still fantastical but it's still very very grounded in natural limits.

i find it weird how laois goes "i see, so falin was talking about you"
because that implies he didnt know it was marcille until then. which is strange that falin didnt immediately tell him who marcille was when the two met, especially since falin and her seemed so close.

That's a small natural dungeon, l guess they call this way self-perpetuating systems of mana generation where monsters thrive

Falin and Marcille's magic are different. Marcille is a mage, and Falin is a Cleric, Falin specializes in mental magic
I'd go with the names "mage" and "sage" to define the differences.
Their magic system is totally different too. Falin learns the Gnome system while Marcille learns both Elf and Gnome systems.

@@ma.2089 Aren't the English subs the same as the English dub script? I also noticed they're different from the CC subs cuz I was watching the dub and the CC subtitles didn't match.
@@forgeryyy the English and English CC script is different. One follows the English translations for the Japanese script and one follows the translation of the English dub. I think the CC is supposed to be the English dub script but I may be wrong. Wish Netflix made it clearer!

The world is so big like I think the author could have easily pulled it long and milk the show for good bucks but she didn't and ended the manga respect 🫡🫡🫡(everything doesn't need to one piece)
With such an expansive world she could make another story within said world if she wanted to.
