I’ve had the Anbernic RG35xx for a month or so now & I’ve loved it so I’m stoked to try this one!
I just saw the Anbernic RG35XX H add in YT reels and this was the next video I came across when i typed review into the search bar, and you my friend have yourself a new subscriber, this was a great video, clean explanations, loved your enthusiasm and energy all around!
now I just need to find a site in AUS that I can buy one thats not so expensive as the offical site is selling them for 150$ and thats madness!!

So glad this video popped up. My wife and kids got me the 35xx for my birthday a few months ago but the toddler knocked it off the back of the couch and the screen broke. @@suhtangwong why do you prefer the R36S over your mm+? Heard the buttons and pads are worse than the mm+ which are the most important things on a retro handheld.. otherwise you also could emulate on your smartphone if controls aren't that important

Great video! I just got mine in the mail and its really cool, however I have questions!
I actually kind of screwed up already with the "retroarch" settings and cannot get things back to normal/ how I want them. For the most part I plan on playing Pokémon, and I hear that I should download garlic, or some other sort of program that's way over my head. If your could make a video showing a download walkthrough of a good program with games that are reliable roms (as I hear the ones that come with it can have issues). Also a good walkthrough of preffered settings (like fast forward) specifically for Pokémon would be extremely helpful. I DONT SEE GOOD VIDEOS ANYWHERE. Maybe in the next month or so you could make something to help. Something that I can have all my Pokémon's games on, and pick it up in 6 years and continue to play. In the mean time ill be playing with my screwed up settings! haha

R36 is a revamped version of the RG35 which is about the same or better quality as the one shown here. I do think this form factor is much better especially with the thumbstick placement. On the original Gameboy style one, they're a bit hard to use comfortably after a while.
I've had mine for a little while now. Any recommendation on sd card to help boost performance? Also, do you recommend loading a new OS?
Nice review! This thing is a STEAL for under $70! I got mine in clear purple and it looks great! The purple is very subtle.
I put Batocera Lite on mine and it runs great! Boot up time takes about 45 seconds though, but that's a lot better than it was a couple weeks ago when it took a minute and 50 seconds!
I was amazed at how well N64 and Dreamcast worked! N64's Conker's Bad Fur Day and WWF No Mercy were no problem! Dead or Alive 2, one of the harder Dreamcast games to emulate, ran just like I remembered it!
An amazing system! Feels great in the hands, battery lasts a long time, controls are excellent, and the screen is beautiful! Worth every penny!

CZcams guidelines prevent me from telling you where to get roms unfortunately but once you have ones you want to add, you can use a micro SD card reader and just drag the roms into the proper rom folders

Can it play all Pokémon NDS games smoothly? I’m looking into one for those more expensive DS games (SoulSilver, HeartGold, Black, White, Black 2, White 2).
look also at the 3DS, 3DS XL or 2DS, they can't play N64, Dreamcast or PSP, but they can play every other Nintendo handheld before them, as well as every other Nintendo home console up till the SNES, and are the best and intended way to play DS as well, as well as having a WAY BIGGER community, homebrew scene and online (although the servers closed just today they can be brought back through homebrew) and also easier troubleshooting because of the bigger community, considering the 3DS family sold almos 80 million units, I got my 2DS for $60 like 3 years ago, but currently a 3DS can be found on that price on local marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace or flea markets and even lower in the latter, if you can snatch a New 3DS/XL/2DSXL even better as the homebrew possibilities expand even further with PS1, Arcade and N64 emulation too, as well as many fan ports, they even got GTA 3 running on the New units

That's a great price. If anyone wants something beefier, the RG405M is this device but...more, and with the switch's stick layout. Metal shell and all, very cool. I LOVE how this feels in the hand. The RG35XXBBQH seems like it's way better for SNES era and back as well as all gameboys.

If you just want to play one game, it doesn't really matter. It's just storage space, so 1 game might take into account up to 3 GB max for a PSP game

I recommend checking out Retro Game Corps. He has videos and written guides and is a great teacher for this stuff. He shows how to install the OS on a new sd card and all that

It does have mini hdmi out so you’d need an adapter or mini hdmi to hdmi cable

I think Anbernics website will say but the community is known to release custom firmware for these things that could unlock some further potential. Definitely won’t be running GameCube or Wii on this thing. The cheapest, best handheld that can play SOME GameCube is gonna be the Retroid Pocket 2S

I have not found a single video out here or even on discord communities if you can trade pokemon with this device despite having multiplayer capability. That's the only thing stopping me from buying it, 'cause me and my friend both want to play Fire Red and Leaf Green. Maybe you can make a video about that as well if you can, my guy.
I’ve looked into it since making this video and to from what I’ve read, you can’t. Not easily anyway. Multiplayer works via netplay or controllers for games that used two controllers on one system but linking game boys is not something these systems can really do

For ps1 does it have Yugioh Forbidden Memories? Im already gonna get it for specifically Pokemon on DS and GBA but i see it has ps1 emulator as well.
Love the video....but for those of us who want to transfer the pokemon from the rom to legit games, its kinda hard/impossible. The way the anbernic saves it's save games and the way it gets transferred just does not work out even using cfw. So if u wanna just play... Get an anbernic, if u wna keep the mon....well get a 3ds haha

You’ll need to get ahold of the ROM and put the file onto into the NDS folder on the micro SD card. I recommend checking out a guide if you’re not sure how
I have a Miyoo right now I think I like the analogs but would it be better to just get a steam deck or Odin 2 Pro?
I mean the Steam Deck is just great for emulation honestly if you’re willing to pay that much, plus you get Steam games. It takes some time to set up emulation on it but it’s worth it.
I’ve never tried the Odin but if you already have a Steam library, the Steam Deck is definitely worth it

As far as I know this isn’t going to handle 3DS game very well. You’ll need something more powerful. Maybe an Android based system. I’m still a bit new to this so I’m not too sure

These are all well and good but why must they be so small...
The 35XX plus is absolutely worth it over the regular 35XX, faster chipset and WiFi alone is worth the upgrade. Plus if you own the H, they are identical chipsets so the SD card is interchangeable. Plus 35XX plus and H have actively developed operating systems. Garlic for the original is pretty much dead in the water and the dev hasn't done anything in a long while.
I dno man, I have the 35xx and the 35xxh and I kind of prefer the OG 35xx in a lot of ways. mainly because of Garlic, just can't beat the user friendliness of GarlicOS with it's sub 10 seconds boot times and autosaving/loading no matter what you do.
like you can just exit a game or turn the device off and next time you turn it on (or months later when you boot the game up again) it just picks up where you left within 10 seconds. don't really see why you would need updates when everything works so flawlessly. same with wifi, really don't see why they even have it when there's no scraper built into the stock OS.
stock Os on the 35XXH just isn't as clean or user friendly though being able to play dreamcast and n64 is nice, I'll probably install batocera on the 35xxh
Might be a dumb question but I'm kinda new to emulation. Could this thing theoretically allow me to transfer Pokémon from my saves to official games? Even with some lengthy tricks? Would they count as legitimate or could the official games understand that it's been 'cheated'? I've always wondered. That alone would have me get one within a few weeks.
I think there’s a way with the game boy and GBA games but it requires real cartridges, and a device that lets you rip ROMs from cartridges to a computer. I’m totally going off a vague memory of hearing something awhile back so I would definitely look it up before spending any money lol

DS games yes, so Platinum, Black, White etc. 3DS games I don’t believe it can run

@@CaptainEffort you can use the shoulder buttons to toggle between showing two screens or one, and swapping between. Pretty easy and Pokemon games especially work well with it

Unfortunately no, or not easily from what I understand. Multiplayer is limited to emulating two or more controllers plugged into one console, not so much linking two systems like game boy

I disagree about Dreamcast running flawless. Mine ran with frame skip out of the box which half’s the frame rate on games so that’s definitely not flawless. Some games run full speed but most do not.

Hmm good question. Might want to check Reddit as they would know a lot more than me as far as what systems have specific games already preloaded. For 3DS specifically, I imagine you’d need to pay a bit more for something higher end.
An actual 3DS system can be modded to download those games straight into them but you need a computer for that too
Oh actually a steam deck or handheld PC like the ROG Ally could be good too. You may be able to use the browsers on those to download everything you need, but definitely look more into that before buying
Take a look at anbernic rg556 if you want an Android based handheld, or odin 2 but the price is like the double of rg556 ( but it has a better processor) . If you want a handheld PC go for the steam deck.

im guessing those games are stuttering on n64 and suck on first boot because of shader caching its a common method on many emulators
How do you add DS games?
All I hear about these is that you have to change the OS and swap the SD card in order for it to work. Are you using the stock OS and SD card?
It's recommended to do that stuff but they still work out of the box. I usually stick to stock in my videos to give people an idea of what they'll get if they just want to buy it and use it

You’d need a computer and you’d know to know where to get the ROMs you want (which I cannot tell you). You’ll also need a micro SD card reader so your computer can read the SD card so you can add ROMs to it
