What are your thoughts on the Percy Jackson series so far? 👀 Should I do more mythological breakdowns like this?
You should do the God of War series, Journey to the West and Romance of Three kingdoms.
If I get my book series into a show, will you review it?
It'll be mythology focused involving twin children of Hades
I Do Not Like It I Do Not Like It Sam I Am I Do Not Like It Prefer Green Eggs And Ham
I know it is closer to the books than the movies, but I am still wondering why they couldn’t give Anna Beth some blonde extensions and contacts. Percy is supposed to have dark hair, but maybe it is sunbleached? It seems like such an easy fix to me
So excited
I've loved all the episodes so far. Makes me very hopeful for the possibility of the other seasons being done.
I'm fearful of the sequel series
@@theanimeunderworld8338why?
@@theanimeunderworld8338 Why?
PJO follows Percy and Percy alone making it easy for the showrunners to have the show follow Percy, we'd be going from that to following 3 brand new characters in season 6 then we would ignore those characters in season 7 and follow Percy and his 2 new friends then finally get to see the whole cast together at the start of season 8. Not saying it would be bad we won't know until it is tried but it is a way bigger task than the first 5 books.
They're more slow moving than the books lmao
“She was craving some grade A beef cake” I’m 💀 ! As I always say John, your jokes are always fresh and hilarious. Thank you for your research and great delivery of stories!
I find it interesting when I hear names I recognize and connect how they adapt the stories to them. Like the Satyr working for Dionysus or Dedalus building things in later books.
Hey Jon cover these origins:
-Dionysus
-Pan
-Johnny Appleseed
-Pecos Bill
- Joel McGerig
- Captain Stormalong
-Theseus
happy to say that several of these are on my list for 2024! (and one of those will be coming next month!)
I would also like to hear some more North American Mythology, lile Pecos Bill, and Johnny Appleseed. I enjoyed the Paul Bunyun vid
My brother and I frequently discuss Percy Jackson and I ask my brother if he knows the origins of certain Greek Heroes and he’ll frequently say yes if it’s not Zeus’s fault it’s Poseidon’s fault.
Or Apollo 😂
@@siaorihara I don’t know any Greek Myths where whatever the problem in the myth was linked to Apollo.
I'm really enjoying the series so far. I like that Riordan makes the satyrs a little more helpful In Camp Jupiter fauns (the Roman version of satyrs) are more like what the original myths were. Fun fact: when the Minotaur appears in the book, Sally Jackson calls him Pasiphae's son.
Because of you I may give this show a chance
I love, love, LOVE this new series! Both the TV show and what Jon is doing here. It's awesome because I have always enjoyed Greek mythology (my oldest sister taught me to read using Greek mythology because she was only 14 and not interested in other stuff but had to watch over her little 4 year old sister) and my youngest son and I get to share this passion now. He won't watch the show with me (he's 18, I'm not cool enough, I get it) but he does come down from his room to discuss it with me from time to time now, it's awesome!!!
W MOM
Some of your Greek myths that you talked about in your videos, there's so many references I understood a lot better in the series , so thank you Jon Solo! You're awesome! Looking forward to the other videos on this television series!
I was feeling sad, and now... I'm still sad but slightly less so. I'm also very excited for this video, thanks Jon! ❤
Sorry you're feeling like that. Hope you feel better soon.
@@sorcerersapprentice thank you :)
@@ChaoticMay No problem
Stop spreading depression we’re here to be happy and escape reality too
I said "Pegusi" in perfect cadence with you organically while listening and doing the dishes! Lol I love it!
I didn't read the books yet but I have been watching the show and remember your review along with documentaries. I think so far its been a great show.
As weird as it is, I would adore a breakdown of the Dark Hunter book series. I totally get that the books are romance. But the stories are super rich in mythology. Greek, Celtic, Sumerian, Atlantis, Cherokee, and on and on
Yayyy!! I’m so glad you’re doing these! I love the show!! But no content creators are talking about it 😩
I sooo love that ur doing this on Percy Jackson I needed this to be explained and as always you do your Big one and makes sense of it all 💯💯👍🏽
10:57 seeing the artwork for hades the game made me so happy, that game does an exceptionally good job in portraying the gods and the art work and game itself are amazing. Would honestly love to see you use hades artworks in your videos as references 😊❤️
From my study into ancient Greek myths and stories most people called the Furies, The Kindly Ones, because to say their name was to attract their attention.
What I find interesting is the similarities between The Kindly Ones, and The Wild Hunt. Neither could be swayed from capturing or killing their prey.
JON I LOVE YOU FOR COVERING THIS SERIES!!!!!! ❤❤❤
This is the video I have been waiting for 😁
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE !!!!
Yes please continue this!!
I love this channel I enjoy the breakdowns for someone who loves Greek mythology this is like paradise
Love the Percy Jackson and all of Rick Roirdan's books! and thanks for being inclusive to us fans across the pond lol GREAT video once again, cant wait to watch more! need something until the next episodes!
16:03 Yes, in the books there is the original Pegasus, who is the father of all other Pegasi. So all the Pegasi in Camp Halfblood (and Scipio in Camp Jupiter) are decendants of the original Pegasus. (They do meet the original Pegasus tho in the book "The Blood of Olympus".)
The series I didn’t know I needed
so interesting of how much so much myth and details in the first episode I'm impressed.
About 1.5 kilometers for 1 mile, nice going, glad to see your videos again!
Nice! Keep going ❤🎉
i just know that when jon posts, it's gonna b GOOD
honestly, i enjoyed the books much better than the series but john's breakdown made me enjoy it so much more
Love it! I've just Watched it! As love this video!
❤Awesome as always thanks
Great video! Totally forgot about Opheus‘ death…
I love that you included illustrations from Hades
Only seen the first episode, which is the only one on Hulu as I'm not a fan of, and I've enjoyed it so far.
Got me interested and already did like it more than the movie, honestly.
Just funny I never grew up with the books but at least others who grew up with the books are havin fun with the series itself. 😊
Oh hell yeah, as soon as I heard about the show I thought of your content!
I love your wit and humor.
Thanks for your videos and thanks also for the "km" reference. Made us feel included over here, in Europe 😄
I love the show so much that my husband and I get annoyed when the episode ends
Thank you for your explanations. I enjoyed watching your videos. Also I don't know if you noticed that by the end of Percy Jackson we saw Hades as a nice guy who saved Percy's mother and only wanted his helmet back. Just as you already said about him in one of your previous video. I love the way Hades said he tries to stay away from Olympus because he hates the jealousy and arguing between his family.
Yay new video
Yeah I think the nature spirit that Grover is seen talking to is actually his girlfriend juniper you get to see her a few times in the books she's really nice until the forces of Tartarus almost burns her bush down
Oh man, I've been hoping and waiting with bated breath that you'd cover this series! My favourite CZcamsr covering my current favourite show :) From one educator to another, thank you kind sir
OK, now that I'm all caught up with PJO: I really enjoyed your breakdown! ^_^
I loved this.
1 Kilometer = 1093.61 Yards
1 Yard = 3 feet
So a 10 Kilometer pole is absolutely more extreme than the usual "10 foot pole" in the saying, and in my personal opinion, makes for a much more accurate statement in regards to how non-disney the minotaur's story is.
Also:
1 kilometer = 0.621 miles
Thus 10 kilometers also equals 6.213 miles
I'm subscribed to your channel but didn't even get notified about these videos - something up with the algorithm?
I'm excited of how the series will go after 5 episodes.
I have loved the series thus far. I never read them as a kid because I’m 52 but I like the books. Just recently finished the first series and I’m on the second book of the second series “Hero’s of Olympus”. Small spoiler warning. The way you described the attitude toward Saytres being good for nothing seems to be the way the Roman half-blood camp feels about Fauns which are their Roman counterparts. They can’t hold jobs and they beg for food and wine in the streets. Also seem to try and scam people in camp that are new. So far I like the series but feel like the first series had superior characters and stories but I’m only on book two so there is room for improvement.
I really hope they do not only all the books in the series but maybe the next few series too.
Yeah, the first series is definitely the best, but the rest are good as well.
Kane Chronicles is also really good.
I am enjoying your videos on the percy jackson show
Could you do a video on Gorgon Aix the first of the gorgons?
Dude the fucking Percy Jackson series is so fucking good!!! I adore the books and I’m so happy you’re doing this series tbh!!! Thank you!
Im wearing this SAME tee rn! Totally coindidental too 😂
MY MAN! Praise be to Hades! 🙌🏼
This is definitely super interesting 🤔
I Hope you always believe in the path you have chosen😍🌹💝
You should do a messed up mythologies episode on Sun Wukong.
I been watching your channel for a while now and am very impressed by your knowledge adding more to what I already know
Sounds really cool
I love this
Can’t unhear the tone change
How did Percy Kill Medusa if Percius already killed her ?
The book says that all monsters regenerate in Tartarus for a while before coming back to wreak havoc again. edit for spelling
@@katiegustafson6765 ok thanks !
all monsters regenerate in tartarus 🫶🏼🫶🏼
I only have one major critique of the show so far, and it’s the Annabeth seems to know everything before it happens, ie medusa, Percy being Poseidon’s kid. If they do the lotus and she knows immediately is when I know there’s an issue.
I totally agree with this. The Medusa scene could have been a cool reveal for people who hadn’t read the books or seen the movie but Annabeth knew what was up before they were even halfway up the driveway and spoiled everything. She’s a little TOO perfect. 😐
@@JonSoloIt makes sense for Annabeth to know about Medusa, she is linked to her mother Athena and Annabeth knows the ins and outs of her mother's mythology and Medusa wasn't exactly hiding much, like hello Auntie Em's store which has lifelike statues, in the books it seemed rather dumb that she never realised that as it was such an easy thing to pick up, Annabeth isn't shown to be perfect though, in fact throughout the show her fatal flaw, her hubris is constantly being showcased and her fear of losing people she is close to was highlighted the most in Ep4 and Ep5.
The only reason they didn’t catch it in the book though was because they were all sleep deprived. Here they hadn’t set that up so Annabeth not realizing wouldn’t make sense. I mean I’m pretty sure most Greek mythology obsessed kids figured that one out pretty fast when reading.
the brief pause between "golden shower" and "of sunlight" 😂
5 minutes later I see your comment and get the joke.
Just commenting for the algorithm 🖤
I was wondering what kind of book do you use a graphic novel a regular chapter book
I love the reference to Hades the game
I’ve been waiting on this since the origins of the movie which I only watched in the past week…wanting to see if credit was given due to the accuracy of the series in comparison to the movie…I can’t wait for how it pans out next week…I originally thought that the show botched up with the St. Louis arch…but after watching it a second time…it seems kind of in line with the reasoning in the show but clearly it’s not the same…I’m hoping the next episodes express this for the sake of my own conclusions…but I expect that it will show just how wrong it is…lol…side note…in my mind…I’m expressing this comment in the voice of Jon Solo even at this point…and I think it shows just how weird I really am (still in my Jon Solo voice even now)
I would argue that winged horses should be termed "Pegasids", which means children/family of Pegasus, just like spiders are "Arachnids" because they are considered children/family of Arachne, the weaver who was turned into a spider.
I always believe that the oracles give people bad news of their futures based upon the selfish needs of the person asking.
Yes you should
This episode was online for a week before I got a notification. I wonder if that's what's going on.
So far so good
but I have to say it has a slow start
Give it time and the series will go dumps
I got to say as some one who didn’t mind the film adaptation, this series is miles better. I had seen the film before reading the books, so I didn’t have the source material to influence my opinion. I know a lot of people say “oh Disney is involved they evil…blah blah”. To be fair Disney does warrant criticism, but this show feels like talented people getting to perform this story with the money powerhouse backing them up.
Disney is obviously going to influence what's shown on screen because it is Disney and it's their money sadly. I will say for it being Disney I'd say the budget isnt going well. They're taking shortcuts and speeding action scenes with cgi too much as if they don't have the budget to do better, which is sad to see when the series deserves the best :/
@@hyrulianhero116 You speak as if the show hasn’t come out? Have you seen it? You just assume they’re going to take shortcuts?
@hyrulianhero116 It really doesn’t seem like you read the books all that recently. The action scenes aren’t all that long. And most of them are internal dialogue. The decision to not drag them out unnecessarily is a good one.
I've been a bit leery since the trailers didn't look all that impressive or compelling to me, but being the myth-obsessed lady I am, I'm willing to give this series a go and come back with my unadulterated review.
Sounds like someone told Kathleen Kennedy to stay away from this one. Or maybe Disney is getting smarter and tired of losing money.
Considering that Rick Riordan is directly working on the show, it will definitely be more accurate to his own books.
Not entirely. While the major plot points are mostly aligning there are dozens of changes. But Rick has come out since the release and said that there were changes he wanted to make so he's using the show to do so.
I wanted to watch it shame it is is just on disney+ I dont get my entertianment from streaming I do have the two films and I think they are alright but I an understand the criticism when the physical copy is realeased I will have to get on that
shit's wild
2:02, did you say that Heracles died because his shirt was dipped in acidic hydra blood? every source I've read said that the shirt was dipped in the blood of Nessus the centaur.
I actually finished watching the show
FINALLY🎉🎉🎉🎉
Since Rick is a writer on the show. Whatever he wants to change about his books is ok with me
Have you noticed that these mythology gods have alot in common with the astrological signs? Similar attributes for both -
3:32
Pegasuses?
Pegasi?
Pegapeople?
I hope people aren't really getting antsy because the myths aren't followed exactly since there is no one exact for of each myth anyway. As was pointed out there is different versions usually from different eras or regions so just see this as just another regional/era adaptation and enjoy.
Pegasus Had a Younger Brother in Greek Mythology; his name was CHRYSAOR, and he was born (as I have Heard and read, that Though Pegasus was One of many stallions owned (and MUCH Favored by Zeus, _) I heard and read that Chrysaor was Born of the drops of Blood when Perseus Slew the Gorgon, Medusa and he had pegasus fly over the cliffs where Perseus defeated the Giant who the followers and worshipers prayed to the Water Goddess, Thetis to be protected from the Giant Cyclops monster who arrived to Claim the Annual human sacrifice of a Single Beautiful virginal human sacrifice. Thetis Demanded the Mortal Princess, Andromeda be chained as the life Sacrificed in order to placate her sense of skewed Justice when the mortal mother of Andromeda offended the Goddess, Thetis by shouting to all through the crowds of people that HER OWN DAUGHTER, Andromeda, was Much more, Brilliant, And Gracious, and More Beautiful than the Goddess, Thetis, herself. And as Perseus defeated the huge oafish monster, as His body was swalloed by the sea, Perseus flung the bag that held medusa's snake entwined head, and sliced through neck HIT the sea waters, when the blood mingled with the sea water, it caused the waters to sizzle and bubble and in 1 unexpected shot---like a bolt of electricity CHRYSAOR emerged instantly from the foamy, fizzy electric mixture of elements,..... AndThe Birth of the equine sibling of Pegasus was born.
What's the difference between satyrs and fauns?
In th books th only difference is that th fauns are much lazier than th satyrs, who take their duties much more seriously. In true classical mythology, fauns are th roman pantheon's version of paneides, not satyrs
Can someone confirm if the series is much MUCH better than the movie? I'm planning on watching it
Im new to the Percy Jackson Universe but I am just so confused if Percy and his mother were talking about the Medusa’s story at his eight years old but then Percy killed Medusa’s later, wouldn’t it mean there are two Medusa in this universe?
In Percy Jackson, monsters don't stay dead. Even though when they get "killed" they do get sent to Tartarus, depending on the circumstances, doesn’t matter how long it takes, they can regenerate.
Quick note to point out Yiff vs Furry. A yiff is a specific type of furry describing furries who are involved in s*x/mature content. Furry isn't synonymous with s*x or intercourse while in animal costume. It's a common misnomer.
not only was it a bull, it was an Aurochs bull. nasty territorial thing larger than our bulls today
But if Perseus in myth already slayed Medusa, as seen in the museum scene, who did Percy kill?
It's all explained in th books. Monsters are are 'archetypes', born frm th chaos n barbarism that alw exists beneath western civilization/th human world. This means that they are purely abstract entities. Monsters will merely reform in tartarus n come back whenever their physical forms are destroyed
❤
Wasn't it Centaur Blood instead of Hydra blood?
The Greek mythology is basically just adventures, family drama, incest, and furries, and I'm pretty sure Disney will try to avoid the second half.
And I have to say, I love the show so far.
Nice
I loved the one episode on Hulu. No other episodes were released which is really callous of Disney to do.
Disney has 3 shows out
@@callherfoofoo Yeah, but it's really not that hard to set up a delayed schedule for Hulu watchers. Like I wouldn't complain if the episodes came out a week after they came out on Disney+.
I am enjoying the Percy Jackson series so far; I hated the movie because it felt like they grabbed the book and blended and wrote the screenplay right after.
