So… Hephestus got his great-grandmother pregnant?
Every time I think mythology has reached a new low, it somehow goes lower
It should really be renamed to Alabama Mythology at this point.
@@valen9835Alabama Mythology: new band name, I call it!!
The mention of Kleios is a very fun, little new addition to the world of Percy Jackson. Thank you for the breakdown!
9:10 you forgot the rest of the myth about the sacrifice and Prometheus. Before that humans were able to ear ambrosia, that is the food of the gods, and unlike what most people believe ambrosia isn't only desirable because it is the most delicious thing on earth but because to get ambrosia you can work just one day to get an entire year's worth of food, but when Prometheus tricked Zeus into getting the worst parts of the sacrifice he cursed us humans so that we wouldn't be able to eat ambrosia anymore and since then we have to work an entire year to get one day's worth of food (growing the food until it is ready to eat).
Sorry to hear this series hasn't been getting a lot of love but I love learning something new from this channel
I love this series AND the source material. You are endlessly inspiring as always, Jon.
I would love to see a fantasy story about Prometheus. Super interesting character from Greek myth who always had mankind's back (& was punished for it)
Same. The one flaw they made in Percy Jackson is that they made him an antagonist. Helping Kronos in book 5.
I love how very often in the myths he ends up screwing us up and getting us cursed when he was only trying to help us. He is a very interesting character.
I can't wait to see where this series is going
I just hope season 2 will improve on the flaws
Complaining!!!!!
@@robinlight .... issues like PACING
These episodes are really fast and count is short
ALSO why not introduce other campers? No Charles, Selena, Ethan, Chris Rodriguez, Katie Gardner?
I bet Jon is having a hard time telling the references without spoiling some fun trivia from the series and books
Can't pay tribute to the Lord's of the underworld without Timmy. Shout-out to any one who gets that reference 😂
This is such a good series so far!! I adore PJO and Greek mythology seriously I love this
Nice analysis! Looking forward to the next episodes!
Always interesting! Love it! And now, I’ll be watching this show because of you. Didn’t even know this was a thing! Thanks ❤
Loving your look into this series. Have not had the chance to watch all the epidodes yet but definitely liking it so much better than I did those movies that came out when I was younger.
Please do a video essay on Coyote tales. That would be fun. I think you would enjoy doing this, Coyote is a trickster in Native American folktales.
Would love if you could do a video about the origins of genies! This video is awesome!!
I love the music on the end. It's perky yet beautiful. It gives me just enough time to get comfy for the next one. ❤️blanket❤️
Jon, you forgot to point out that Chiron is wearing a leg brace, or it's a prosthetic leg, either way it's a cool detail sins in one myth he's shot in the knee by Hercules with a poisonous hydra arrow.
Enjoying your breakdown and the episode series.
Loved this episode. And your antennae.
You forgot Hades in Percy Jackson did have a kid. Nico di Angelo!
I can't wait to see Hades in this
I think he’s avoiding spoiling the plot cause Zeus had a kid as Jupiter with the Thalias mom who is Jason from the sequel series
Plus Bianca di Angelo
Then he had Hazel in the past as Pluto
Just trying to keep spoilers to a minimum ;)
@@eh9344 yeah but I’m pretty sure they all were born before the pact. At least Hazel was
Love this series!
2:12Jon this was the perfect time to say “Alotta Uses” 😂😂😂
This series is very amazing.
So Exited for the new episodes
Just watched the first 2 episodes the other day need to finish the rest sometime before the end of January 😊😊
Awesome I love learning new things
I like these videos don’t stop please
Thank you so much for this series jon! I am CLUELESS when it comes to greek myths (i mean can u blame me? ZEUS JUST CANT ZIP IT UP, THERES TOO MUCH TO KNOW)
so this is SOOO useful to me as i watch the show cus i had no idea half the time what they are talking about when it comes to the god's names or information that the characters seems to know but i sure as hell dont lol.
So far it's going very good, every titel of the episode reminds me of the chapter. The changes are small but not affecting the plot in a problematic way
that's because the titles are chapter titles from the first book. :D
Ngl, quite jealous you managed to make a career from my degree and I didn’t 😅 but also super glad to have this channel ❤
I don’t know Jon , your analysis makes me want to watch the series
Then again, it’s Disney , I’m sure they’ll mess it up eventually just like they did everything else so why should I bother?
Thanks, Solo
Alongside the Helmet of Darkness, the elder Cyclopes made Poseidon’s trident.
I hope Athena apologized for getting Gaia pregnant 😭😭 I would’ve been so heated if I got pregnant bc someone couldn’t find a trash can 🥴
Is the love triangle also the reason Mr D expose Percy on the news in episode 5? If so he’s pretty much jeopardizing their hopes of avoiding a war.
Did I miss that part of the episode? I know Gabe was on the news talking about Percy but I didn’t remember Mr D having a part in it. Maybe kill have to rewatch it
So you had to do a part 2 in this video wow impressive and amazing I really hope that you had a great happy holidays and great merry Christmas and a great happy New Years and a happy great 2024 to you
Remember how pissed people were when Annabeth had brown hair in the film? Yeah
Thanks
9:38 more hades (the game) reference 🎉🎉😊
when is part 8 of 8 coming out
Actually, Hera also made a child buy herself. It was out of anger that he had yet another child but by himself this time, there was no woman to punish and torture and she couldn't do anything to Zeus. So creating a child by HERSELF was what she thought would be a suitable revenge except when it was born she hated it and discarded it.
You gotta love how Mr. D is voiced by the same guy who voiced Rex Splode😂
Athena gave him her shield which was polished till it shone like a mirror.
Just commenting for the algorithm 🧡💛
It’s snowingggggg!!!!!❤❤❤
I've noticed in the percy jackson series the olympians are being heavily humanized but in the actual myths they were terrible especially zeus. Honestly I think the percy jackson series needs to have their own version of kratos (although there is a greek god knonw as kratos but he's an ally of zeus) but something like that.
"Actually"... Zeus didn't give birth to Athena all by himself. Her mother was Metis ("wisdom/cunning") a cousin of Zeus and his first wife. After he impregnated her he learned of a prophecy that she would give birth to a son more powerful than his father. So he tricked her into turning herself into a fly and swallowed her. She went to Zeus's head where she gave birth to Athena and created armor, a shield, and a spear for her, which the daughter started banging, giving Zeus a splitting headache.
Apparently there is a version where Zeus gave birth to Athena by himself, it was pointed to me out rudely in another comment section. There are different versions of the same Greek myth. I do prefer the one where Zeus has Athena with Métis because if shows how selfish he is.
Didn't Zeus swallow his first wife Metis [wisdom/cunning]? So when Athena was born, she was their offspring, not just Zeus' thoughts?
Yes
My daughter and I love this series
Hmmm something about nuber 8 seems off
I'm curious why Annabeth, who is described in the books as blonde with grey eyes and Luke, was also supposed to be blond are instead ... not. I have no problem with racial diversity, but why change it? Also, I thought I remembered Percy was supposed to have black hair and sea green eyes. Is it really so hard to find actors that match the actual book description?
I believe the plan was the author wanted the best actors and actresses regardless of how accurate to the look of the characters.
Yes. I was so excited when he announced "book accurate casting". I've always been against whitewashing in media, and now people are calling me racist because I also object to this as well. Does it not go both ways? I was pissed even with the movie cast, because Annabeth had dark hair! Love Alexandria, but she was not her. It wouldn't even be hard to find someone with close coloring, but use CGI to change eye or hair color. I imagine that will be kind of important for showing Aphrodite (who is one of my favorite goddesses in Rick's books, her shifting between colors and races is so amazing- love is love regardless of looks). If a character or person is black, let them be black. If they are Asian, let them be Asian. If they're white, let them be white. What sucks is the girl who was cast for Annabeth would be the PERFECT Hazel! I don't approve of how many people are going about their disapproval, and there are definitely people made because they are racist. And that is completely NOT okay. ESPECIALLY the people lashing out at the cast for it, it's not their fault that directors can't keep to the books. Vampire Academy soiled me on that HARD, not only changing the Turkish/Scottish main character black but changing the ENTIRE story. But apparently wanting a character to look like how they were written is wrong now? 😔 I've been told it's because people can't relate or identify to a character unless they look like them, which is bull. Unless I've happened to turn into a pale, thin, black haired straight man with ice blue eyes (I'm a bi female that definitely doesn't fit that description) that for sure is false 😅 The only expectation I had when Rick announced the show was what he promised, and it stung that he immediately did a 180. Looking for good acting isn't even a good excuse because a lot of the cast is so stiff and robotic, including the main trio at times. I love seeing the books come to life (except for what they've changed story wise as well, because y'know "book accurate") but I hope they get better as they progress in the story more. Because I really DO want it to do well, regardless, so maybe companies will realize fans don't want adaptations that feel like the lifeless corpse of the story they love.
Sorry for the rant, I've been in so many discussions where if you even mention what the book characters look like, you get bashed 😅
@@EtaryaFae Well said
shit's wild
Early crew 🙌🏻
Child sacrifice is quite common in baal worship
❤
What kind of discussion?
Maybe you can also talk about greek and persian monsters in detail like the minotaur, chimera, manticore etc.
Yo
If i remember right percy does fight taos or someone similar (i dont remember their name)
I actually still like how the Greeks found a way to justify using inedible crap as a sacrifce to their gods. So many other religions screw over their followers.
Sorry I listen to the videos most the time but I looked over and saw a blonde Percy did they ignore the descriptions of all the characters they talk about Percy having sea green eyes alot like don't get me wrong I get changing things to add more diversity but in the lost hero books we get Piper(aka "I said so") Hazel(my favorite character in the series) frank(a shapeshifting boss) leo (the guy who defeated gia) and Nico (the kid who's been in the closet longer than anyone else) so why not just start with Jason's story you already have a blonde main character and the cast would have already been diverse making Chiron black is good he was always described as having brown fur in his centaur form and I always pictured him as a old head dropping wisdom in style anyways so I'm all for it but what happened to Annabelle she doesn't even have her grey eyes every child of Athena is supposed to have and in the book her dad is a stuck up collage professor that cares more about work then his family if he is black now you made a character that showed one of the bad things all parents in general do(ignore their children) and made it a black guy that doesn't care about his kid by trying to not be racist they made the character a stereotype type
I'll gladly speak with anyone who can do so respectfully
What! no goddess of jammed up draws. Susan has even had a chat with her at some stage.
Who is Susan you ask. Susan is Death's granddaughter, she sometimes steps in to help out when Death gets sidetracked. Oh yes, Death rides a white horse called Binky.
Did I miss something? That’s in Terry Pratchett right? I love his books ❤
@@teacherbecca526 I'm glad someone reads real books. ;-)
Is the goddess of jammed up drawers from the Tiffany Aching series?
@@teacherbecca526 First appearance, I think was in The Hogfather. She may have made it into one of Tiffany's, I think one of the last ones but I may be wrong. It's been a few months since I reread the 80 or so books.
The mention of Susan was a hint, You were the only one to get it. ;-)
@@alanhilder1883 I just read/listened to Guards! Guards! a few weeks ago. I love the Nightwatch
They dont find that out under later in the series. And he was trip in the Lotus hotel for a long time
Kleos = Greek clout
I never really looked into Greek mythology but it sounds like the shit that was going on in the book of genesis that made god flood the earth 😂
So kleos equals clout?
6:26 I thought you said from a previous video that it wasn't Medusa's fault but Poseidon's, but Athena was a major b and punished Medusa anyways. Maybe it was some other CZcamsr Idk
Like with most myths, there are multiple versions. Either way, Medusa and Poseidon defiled her temple (with or without consent). There are also many different reasons as to why she cursed Medusa. Some say because of the act itself, others say it was meant to be a blessing- no man could take advantage of her again, between her now being a hideous monster as well as being able to turn them into stone.
Let's go
If they ever decided to do a fast and furious prequel the kid who plays Percy Jackson would make a good Brian O'Connor
You firgot herakles
So wait a minute ,, When did Jeffery from The Fresh Prince join the cast
Is there a god of debts??
"Looks like Hades is the only one who stuck to his word" Yeah I don't think so,
Except he did. Bianca and Nico were born before the end of WWII in Europe and the three god-kings took their oath.
Has anyone ever told you that you look like Abed from community if he was white
ayyyeeee😮❤
OK
Bruh lol
U not going to mention In the book Hades had two kids that he hid in the lotus hotel
Trying to keep spoilers to a minimum since that's never discussed in the first book :)
They were BORN before the deal.
@Beasieleo A) they were bourbon before the deal. B) I don’t think Hades was the one who put them in the casino.
I don't know much about those books but I won't watch anything where they race bend the original characters
@fabycho6791 Honey, the author himself cast those kids. You don’t know better than the author who’s the best fit for the role. Especially since you admit to not knowing much about them. The color of Harry’s eyes in the Harry Potter series is more important to the story than the color of Annabeth’s skin in this series. Hell the main character of this series is supposed to have dark hair, but was cast as a blond instead. You have no idea what you are talking about.
What loyalty to the book? who is holding you hostage to say that 😂
Hey now! 😂 They've hit every major beat from the book so far! Granted, they've made some changes behind how and why things are happening (and their casting choices are questionable for 90% of the characters) buuut they've stayed true to the story for the most part.
Ummm this is pretty darn close to the books. These are not the trash movies. Also expect slight difference from book to live action but this pretty darn close. If you are wanting to bring up Annabeth than I hope you complain about how all the characters don't look like the book then too? Hair color as well. Glad the author is involved and his characters and his story.
The plot, tone, and characters are the same as the books? And don’t bring up appearances please, those don’t matter
Not even interested in the show just the mythology...
Hate the series
Yo
