- As requested - here's a side-by-side comparison of the original Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida with the new enhanced version of the ride that opened three weeks ago. The spider signal wasn't working the day we filmed the original footage, but has always been part of the ride & the audio is the new enhanced version, but you can hear the original soundtrack in the first video we posted of this ride.

While overall, l prefer the enhanced version, there are a few things I miss about the original. It had a very comic-book like charm to it. I especially loved the look of Spider-Man himself. Let's not forget that we also lost those kick-ass guitar riffs.

Yeah, I really wonder why they took those guitar riffs out. It was a small part that i actually remember 10 years ago and made the ride feel badass. I'm assuming you're talking about the riffs that were played right after doc oc lights the fire, right?

I like how the put Stan Lee in 2 spots in the ride. Also at the end "good job team you did great..." Stan Lee now says that too. Always will be one of my FAVORITE rides at Universal!

Exactly, he is in 4 spots now in the enhanced version. The dumpster truck, fleeting away with a woman after Dr. Octopus shoots us with the anti gravity cannon, when we are dropped and caught by Spidey, and the voiceover ending.

He appears as the truck driver, with a woman fleeing into the movie theater, when spider man stops us from hitting the ground, and in the background as the police reassemble the Statue of Liberty
I think the new one is a ton more convincing and is overall better, I just wish it had the shading style the old one had.

Naming the theater the "Excelsior" and adding the "Clone Saga" as the movie playing were nice touches added on the enhanced version. However, I prefer the shading and villain costumes better..

Holy crap, i didn't ever realize last time i was there how much those graphics have aged. This is fantastic, a well needed refresher to my favorite ride of all time.
Best version possible. Old soundtrack with new visuals. Agreed?

2006 was the last time I've been to Universal Orlando, I'm going back in a couple of days and can't wait to ride the enhanced version considering this is my favorite ride of all time.

I like the enhanced way better, the original looks like an early PS2 game.

Personally I liked them both. The first time I rode it was in 2009. You could tell that the graphics were kind of looking a bit...outdated? I'm kinda happy that they wanted to take a step forward to enhancing them with the success of the Amazing Spider Man movies.
Some parts of the original actually look better.... But overall I'm glad they updated it.
The new enhancements are good, but I'll miss the old graphics. Mainly because I went on the ride back in the day.
I feel like the lighting and practical effects are better in the enhanced version, but I prefer the original screen footage. I like the designs of the characters much better. I wish they would have made all those enhancements, including the Easter eggs but kept the shading and costumes of the original ride.

As someone who grew up with the movies and realism instead of the comics, I prefer the new one over the original. However, they are much different from each other, and have different styles, so I don't think it's right to compare the two. You feel like your in the Spider-Man universe more in the new one in terms of graphics and motions, but they should've kept the soundtrack from the old one, as it gives a lot of adrenaline and marvel feel. Both are great, and Universal's enhanced version is an incredible upgrade! Nothing beats this ride. Nothing!
What about Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey?

The things I liked from the original was Doc Ock looked exactly from the Animated Series from the 90s, and how Spider-Man looked also,
What I liked from the modern (enhanced version) is the graphhics overall, and making hob goblin also from the Animated Series into a more realistic translations. Didn't really care for the newer Spider-Man, and Doc Ock look, but that's just me
I like the bright, vibrant colors and the bigger eyes of the old spidey suit sad they changed it
If you were a kid and grew up with the original you'd have an appreciation for both, although I do miss the original, it felt cool to see all of stan Lee's cameos! That's something I never thought I grew up to see, honestly I thought they would retire it but it's here to stay!!! Crazy what we grow up with
I feel the original has more vibrant colors. And like "heyheyripley" said it's supposed to look cartoonish which is kinda lost with the enhanced version. I think spiderman looked a lot better before. And the shadowing is better before.
The original seems like a comic style, and the latest one seems like it's from one of the original movie trilogy, such as Spider-Man to Spider-Man 3. I honestly like the newer style, because it seems like your in the movie, and not some sort of cartoon.
it's kinda funny how the ride itself is updated but the line-vids aren't. doc ock is still shown in the old costume in the videos while the updated ride has him in a spider man 2 type outfit.
I think Doc Ock’s outfit’s actually a mix. He wears his classic yellow and green jumpsuit from the comics while wearing a brown overcoat. Which I’m guessing is based off of his design from Spider-Man 2.
I hate the jacket, keep Doc. Ock the classic comic book look.

I always preferred Spidey to have a bright orange hue to the red of his suit, with big almost triangular white eyes. Something from the first film and the original ride.
Otherwise, love both versions for their pluses
Something about the lighting and rendering of the original made it horrifyingly awesome to me. Also love the todd macfarlane esque design he had
His design in this ride is actually based off John Romita Jr.‘s spidey design. I found a model sheet of it online that looks almost identical just with web wings
Nah, the old version character models are based on the 90s TV series, which is near and dear to my heart, but the movie character designs just don't have the same magic.
Exactly! I'm but the Doc Ock coat look from Spiderman 2 doesn't do it for me.
Plus scream and hydro man was not in the films.

The enhanced version gives Scream something else to do other than scare the living daylights out of me no matter how many times I ride it

The enhanced version is the newer version, it's got a lot of the same stuff, but it has more advanced graphics. Basically it just helps it look more natural and realistic.
I'd much prefer the enhanced version; seems to be more smooth when transitioning to each scene. However, the original music was better and would be better suited with the enhancements.
I just wish they’d kept the original designs. Mainly because it clashes with the cartoon in the queue. Updating the CGI is fine but don’t make the whole experience inconsistent.
ya and the new audio with new lines like "NO!" when the SCOOP was about to fall and spider man sees them

The voice clip of Spider-Man shouting "NO!" was in the original version, but it’s clearer in the enhanced version.

Cringe Network I’m fairly certain it is. The queue still seems to be heavily themed to it.
Here is my comparison comment.
Original Version: CGI animation looks simple, Has Black 3D Glasses, and the characters in this version have their comic appearances.
Enhanced Version: CGI is more detailed, Has Blue 3D Glasses like the Japanese Version, and the characters in this version have their Live-Action Movie appearances.
The only complaint with the new one seems to be that they replaced the rock soundtrack with a techno one.
I just want them to release the original version’s soundtrack.
The upgrade's were well worth the investment.
The new graphics are impressive and the facial animations are a big step up, but i actually miss the dramatic lighting and vibrant colors of the original. It just popped and felt more comic booky.
I got stuck at the part with the green smoke and it just kept releasing smoke until the ride continued haha.
I like the enhanced version but prefer the original. The music was way better too.

The drop felt a lot more scary on the old version, but you could tell how outdated the visuals were getting. To be honest, the queue videos are what really need attention now that the ride itself is done. The videos are 90s cartoons with the old villain costumes. Also, the line itself. The website that shows up on the computers in the cubicles looks like a four year old's PowerPoint. Even in 1999 websites looked better than that. Every item on the cubicles are plain white. Have and apple? It's plain white now! Croissant? Plain white! The line really needs some TLC.
that’s because the ride is supposed to look like the background of the comics, in the old spider-man comics the backdrops were always muted colors while the main characters would have all the color to pop out. meaning the guest in line are actually important characters in the comic book.

Yes, it's still there. It was just upgraded. I never rode the old version, but the new one is in 3D and in HD, according to the ad.
everything is good except for the drop because it's too slow at first and then the film skips from halfway through the drop to hitting the ground still the overall experience improved
Hey just think they were talking about replacing the whole thing with Michael Bay's Transformers...at least we were allowed to keep SOMETHING of a precious memory.
I still think scream was interesting to add at the time this ride was made because not many people knew about her. Also it’s funny that universal has the best Spider-Man ride while Disney owns marvel
I think the fall was more suspenseful in the original. Cause you don't see the web until the last second.
I like the original version better it's from the fox version 90s cartoon and the bricks with doc ock bust through and shoot fire out of his tentacle is better either way it's still a good ride overall with the update
This would have made my childhood. But I never got to see this ever.
The enhanced version doesn't really feel like a refurbishment in other cases it feels like something new, something completely re-maked from scratch.

The only thing I dislike about the new ride is spiderman's suit design both in the park and in the ride screen. They shouldn't have just kept the design the same

Exactly. I didn;t get it either. Thankfully, the matter was resolved. Transformers was built, but as a different attraction. I, too, was confused why they would think of that since the Transformers movies aren't Marvel at all. i can't even remember if they had any comics published by Marvel.
