i know this sounds super experimental, but it'd be so interesting to see what a maniafied cover for a set of modern sonic games would look like! either designed to look classic or somethin crazy!

Would be so cool to see a Retro Engine port of all three games, with Mania-styled graphics allowing them to be played back-to-back of each other! With an option to select each game like in Mario All-Stars, using these box arts!
Edit: I know the mobile ports exist, and I know Origins exists (this was posted after the reveal). My idea was of a way to unify all three games, if it was just to play widescreen ports I wouldn't have mentioned it here.
Well someone could probably mod Sonic Origins when it releases. Imagine what the community could do if Origins releases on Steam, ooh the mods.

Changing Sonic's posture on the Sonic 2 cover makes such a big difference. He goes from looking dorky to being cool.

Yeah I don't like the character designs in the American Boxart, they look too weird. The European and Japanese boxart looks more true to the game.

As a kid, I always wanted to see this! The American covers were colorful but inaccurate, this is so cool!
Damn, the inner child in me is jumping up and down and saying "THANK YOU" because while I loved the games, the boxarts (and other Westernized conversions) used to always really bug me with how different the characters looked from their in-game artwork (American Sonic's Mohawk, Tails having eyebrows, Robotnik going with his Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog look, or an eyeless demon the next). Of course, access to the internet years later shed light on why that was (and what Japan got....including COLOR manuals WHAT?!), but just loved how you added that much-needed consistency at long last, and in pixels no less! Haha! And with that, subbed!

These Mania styled covers really prove that the box art could be used as title screens, since the title screens in the Sega genesis era were possibly where the most detailed in-game artwork of an entire game would be.
I see you got rid of Eggmans bushy beard that he never had in the Sonic 2 one, never understood why they added that there...
Technically, even the American design (the one in the box art) didn't have a beard either. I honestly am sure it's actually meant to just be his jaw but the way artist shade it made it look like a beard instead for some reason.
Edit: just figured out that early artwork of american eggman post-sonic 1 and pre-spinball apparently gave him a red jaw, and that is why he has red shading there. So no, it was never a beard, his jaw was just red.

I will be honest with you. While I love your work as a whole, I can't stand those shadows on top of Sonic's spines. It's so unnatural, given that it's the place where sunlight would bounce off. Especially when you highlight the top of his eyebrows, eye pupils and muzzle, which reinforces the idea of light coming straight from above. The shadow under his head further reinforces the idea of light coming straight from above.
I actually really like it, and it kinda matches how I drew my own sprites, but I totally get that criticism of it

Phenomenal work, man! You're extremely talented, and these tuned out great. That being said, why no Sonic Cd? I get not making the title, since it's so similar to Sonic 1, but the box art could've been pretty interesting. You don't have to do it or anything, I'm just curious.

This Outstanding!! Honestly if they were to remasterd version of these titles they should send ya email, Also!! I feel Sonic CD would be great for this treatment, the old art is well, its good for its time, but i feel a freash coat of paint would really get some life back into it
Fantastic work! These are quite beautiful. Any reason why you didn't draw the SEGA Seal of Quality or the rating labels, out of curiosity? Also, will you do the European S3 boxart someday? That would be an interesting challenge given the posing, and Carnival Night setting and whatnot.
It's so satisfying to see these come to life. Like it genuinely fascinates me and I'd love to see more. They're very beautifully well done.

Using sprites and pixels to print box covers probably would have made for higher quality and more attractive merchandise and become a real collectible. Tails looks much cuter that way.
When I originally watched this video I thought it was super cool but I just learned that the same guy that did this is the same guy that's making (at least some of the) Sonic Studio Art and I've gotta say this guy is good.

I love the changes you made to Robotnik/Eggman on the Sonic 2 box art, you actually made him ridiculously accurate to his in game design. The original render was good, but he was missing his white gloves, he only had three fingers and a thumb, he didn't even look like he was wearing goggles and his freaking mustache was BRIGHT RED!

Like a comment below mentioned, iâd love to see some more obscure classic Sonic covers Maniafied, like Sonic CD or something wild like Sonic Spinball or Mean Bean Machine. Iâd also LOVE pixel art recreations of modern / post 2000âs sonic covers. Sonic Rush, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Battle, etc. Watching you make these is so fascinating.

I'd love to see Maniafied versions of the Sonic Advance trilogy simply because they are also pixel 2D side scrollers and would be curious how you would turn modern designs into the mania style.
