    After reading your reviews on the Osprey Aether 70 I purchased one for my first backpacking trip in 40 years, it performed flawlessly, this pack distributed the weight evenly, I had no pain from the load I carried, this pack performed so good I never took it of during trail breaks for a lunch break, however, I did do a rookie mistake and over packed with too many luxury items, pack weight in at 43 lbs, but this pack did it's job and gave me a very pleasant 19 mile 2 day adventure.

    Yes, I mentioned in the video that it's difficult to fit a 3l bladder in when you have packed everything into the main compartment. It works best if you insert your full hydration bladder in first, then pack everything in afterwards into the main compartment, that way the gear can form around it and you won't have that bulge giving you pain. Hope this helps.

    This video helped tremendously with making my final choice for a pack. I'm new to backpacking and originally bought the Deuter Aircontact 75 +10 online based on the solid reviews. Got it and quickly realized it was total overkill for my needs, so I returned it and ordered the green Aether 70 in a size M instead. Couldn't be happier! The fit is more appropriate for my body, and the outside bladder compartment and jacket pouch is another deal breaker.

    I know this review is focused on the pack, but since you mention it in the video, I've heard some mixed reviews on the 2013 version of the Osprey Bladder. I'm quite partial to my version (the one you had in the vid) but I do need a 2L for a smaller pack I purchased so I'm trying to figure which model I should go with. Thanks for the review! Hey. Nice review. I have been looking at this pack recently and one of the guys at the store asked how long i plan on doing hikes. I will most likely be doing some overnight hikes (3-5 days) as well as a lot of 1-2 days. The associate recommended that i get a smaller pack or the deuter that he said was good. I did not like the feel of the deuter and the quality and warranty on this pack sells me. Would this pack be too much to take on single day hikes as well as mukti days? Or will it be just fine for an all around take with me every time pack? Thank you!

  • @bigfuzzyhat
    @bigfuzzyhat Před 11 lety

    I had the Aether 60 4th gen. Inserting a full 3L bladder into the water pouch is an issue with this model. The sleeping bag also made it very hard to insert the bladder. A full bladder caused the back panel to bulge outwards, causing a lot of back discomfort. As I drank water the pack shape changed so there was constant adjustment which was very annoying. The 60 cannot fit a 1L nalgene on the side.
    The upper side compression straps that are now longer were the part of my pack that failed.

    Hello to Dubai! Yes, the size is in relationship to the person wearing the pack. However, as the size increases, so does the capacity of the pack, but only by a few liters per every size increment. So, for example, the large may have 2 more liters capacity than the medium, and so on. Good luck with your search!

      Well, I'm hesitating between the Aether 60L and the Air contact pro from Deuters.. I just really can't decide ! It would be used for a several months road trip in different countries and for few days in total autonomy.
      I'm just afraid the aether won't have enough space when needed. Just a few question and i'm done ahha
      Can we store a lot in the space between the main compartment and the lid ?
      Could the back pocket (designed for water supply) can be accommodated for valuables storage ?

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear

      Yes, you can actually extend the lid to be higher up and fill it really high (I've never maxed out). Yes, you can use the space for valuables. Also, you can buy an Osprey Daylite Pack (I have review on my channel) which is designed to add on to this pack, and that gives you another 20 liters, plus serves as a day pack if you need it.

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear
      @ReviewOutdoorGear  Před 10 lety

      I have not looked to closely at the Baltoro, but from a little research I can see many things that are different about the packs. Several things that I like on the baltoro are the "response" suspension system, sounds like a good idea, but a lot of moving joints/hinges that could break. The ventilation does not seem to be as well designed as in the Aether. There are a lot of differences. I like the shape of the Osprey more as well. This is my second Osprey aether (I changed from the 2012 to the 2014 version, and I am very happy with it still. I also love Ospreys Almighty guarantee, which is just unbeatable.

      Thanks dude. i will consider your opinions towards to my next purchase. I hear that Baltoro makes squeaking noisy as well. i have two gregory packs and one of them squeaks due to the plastic joint (response system???). also, i wanted to try an external pack as well. pretty inexpensive, hauls ton, and easy access. only problem that i have is how it looks on you. it is more... hmmmm boyscoutish. but now, i'm leaning towards to Osprey Aether 70. i hope that i could find me a good deal. it seems like the price is around 290 at this time. anyhow, thanks for your videos.

    short n sweet, good facts not alot of wasted time on the regurgitated basics, and I really like your style of review. . I'm torn between this and the atmos 65.. both have things I like. .both packs I will be adding little loop tabs for attachment of external gear ...just little mods to kinda personalize it to how I prefer to package gear ,add a strap or two which is the usual for me but the biggest difference between the 65 and 70 is that nice full mesh suspension on the 65 and the 70s more traditional padding. in the store with a bit of weight both feel great but something about the 65s mesh back support is leaning me towards it.

      +funshootin1 I think you won't be disappointed with the Atmos 65. It's a little less of a 'tank' than the Aether, but it's still very durable!

      +funshootin1 Like you, I was torn between the Atmos 65 AG and the Aether 70. I ultimately picked the Aether, preferring the contour and tighter fit of it to the Atmos AG. The design of the AG having a 'separation' between the hiker's back and the pack, to provide better breathability, is great, but just not for me.I bought the European version of the Aether, and it came with a raincover...

      +Richard E You will be happy with either pack...they are both quality, well-designed, and super comfortable, and Osprey is a great company. If one of the packs is a 10 on a 10 scale, the other is a 9.95...

    Hey I bought this pack today but it didn't include the hydration pack. I should buy it sepeartly or to contact the store and ask them about this?

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear
      @ReviewOutdoorGear  Před 10 lety

      It does not come with the pack. You can get any hydration reservoir, they will all fit.

      i recommend Platypus 3LT hydration pack. lighter and easier to clean since it opens up wide on the top. but then again, i don't have one. i like my poland spring water bottles so that i could just toss them after my trips.

      2013?
      As long as it can hold up.
      If it can hold up 500 days (not in a row necessarily) of hard use and look & work good. It's ok. Otherwise forget it.
      I have an Osprey pack. No complaints. But, it is older.

    Hi, I'm planning to buy this pack online but I'm worried about the sizing. I live in Korea so I can't just "visit the store" as they recommend. Anyway, I'm 185 cm (almost 6'1") and 88 kg (about 195 lbs). Which size would you recommend~ the medium or large?

    • @baseballman74
      @baseballman74 Před 10 lety

      you measure your torso size first to figure out the harness length. and the hip belt. visit osprey.com to find out your size. I'm about to order me one. tonight !. i had to check out this video again to be sure. i did consider gregory baltoro 75 but i changed my mind. plus Aether 70 is on sale now for 217 or lower. how are you going to buy this pack from South Korea? i too used to live in Seoul for 9 years.... anyhow, good luck with your shopping.

    • @elguapo5753
      @elguapo5753 Před 10 lety

      I haven't seen this pack being sold out here in Korea and even if I did, there's no way to be sure it was genuine and not some knock-off from China. I went ahead and ordered the large online ... $217 huh? that's a sweet deal, I paid more

    • @baseballman74
      @baseballman74 Před 10 lety

      el guapo I placed an order for this backpack. the order has been backed up. i won't be able to get this until August 15th. Anyhow, If you speak Korean i could hook you up with a outdoor gear guy in JongRo, Seoul. I dealt with this guy for many years and he has very good price as well as genuine products. His prices are lower than the okoutdoor.com. good luck with your shopping in Korea where all the outdoor gears are far more expensive... returning back to states were good thing for me. As far as getting outdoor gears. i know how frustrate it could get.... knowing that prices in U.S. is far less. Good luck to you.

    Awesome pack, how many days do you find yourself using that size pack for? I am trying to find a nice pack for a 3 day trip. I just subbed. Thanks, Joe

      @ReviewOutdoorGear  Před 9 lety

      Hey Joe,
      I use this pack anywhere from 2-7 days. Could go as far as 14 days if needed. This pack is designed for durability and comfortable camping. The only thing that increases in your pack as you add days is food, so if you never go for more than three days, you may have some spare room in the pack, but its nice if you need to take something extra.

    Hello! Excellente description on the video. I have some questions:
    I'm 190 cm (6'2") and 110 kg (about 242 lbs) and will travel to India, Nepal for 2 moths or more. I visited the www.ospreypacks.com and was interested in these 3 options: XENITH 75 or 88 lts and AETHER 80 lts
    1- do you think you can tell me wich one is better for me?
    2- and XL right?
    3- In the 3 options can I use the PLATYPUS 3LYS HYDRATION PACK?
    4- I live in Argentina and we dont have this brand here. In what american webpage can i buy it?
    Thank you!!!

    I'm sure almost everyone asks this question - Aether or new Atmos AG? ) And if go for Aether i really can't decide on colour ) Green or Blue? Why you went with green this time? is it practical and not becoming too dirty? PS Also here they have a 50% discount on Arcterix Altra 75 so it costs now even cheaper the aether. I was tempted just because i know msrp, but i really just don't like it that much as ospreys. maybe i miss something - what do you think? Спасибо! У тебя замечательный канал на youtube!

    • @ReviewOutdoorGear
      @ReviewOutdoorGear  Před 9 lety

      Hello Boris! Hmm, this is a difficult question. I haven't used the Atmos AG, but hope I can soon. It seems like an awesome pack. With the aether, the green is looking great still. The nylon is very easy to clean if it gets dirty, just hose it down + brush with soap. I just liked the green when i looked at it, its a nice color. Preference I guess. I'm sorry if this isn't helping much. If I can get my hands on an atoms, I will sure be doing a review!

    • @johnnydarcy
      @johnnydarcy Před 9 lety

      ReviewOutdoorGear Thanks for your answer. Looking forward for Atmos review. ) I tried 50l version at shop and it's hip belt surely is something never met before ) however it's harness looks like it can't take any serious load, maybe i'm wrong. Also i liked that it's mesh system doesn't take much space from the backpack storage space (as opposed by deuter i had previously), hydration pocket again moved inside the bag - not so good. So what can you say about arcterix altra - it's even cheaper here than aether now as it's on clearance. And do you have any experience with geigerrig? will it fit aether? thnx!

    I have one and I dont like it. Not the Ag one. as I tend to carry heavy loads and didnt think the ag system would stand up to my abuse. I baughgt it because all the good reviews it gets. I havent even taken it hiking cause I dont like packing itevery time I go to go for a hike I get frustrated trying to pack all the stuff I want and end up taking my old pack. Ive taken it not even hiking. just camping. It feels good on your back though and carries well. thats about it in my opinion. myns just setting here. Im probably going to sell it
