  • In this we're taking a look at a special version of Windows 3.0 that released in 1991 that introduced multimedia capabilities in Windows that can support sound cards and CD-Rom drives. This version of Windows 3.0 MME is basically the Creative Labs edition, this is also the very first version of Windows to actually have a start-up and shutdown sound. The Tandy version of Windows 3.0 MME has the start-up sound disabled, which in future we'll showcase the Tandy version. It was succeeded by Windows 3.1 in 1992 along with Windows for Workgroups 3.11 in 1993.

Wow, it's interesting to hear sounds and MIDI music on Windows 3.0. It sure was a fabulous introduction back in the early 1990s.

Most definitely. The early 1990's is when computers with CD-Rom drives and sound card started to become mainstream, and Windows started to become to go for productivity software and games.

Interesting. This would be the first Windows version with a startup sound, right?
