Echo is a perfect counter-balance to Jocko's inspiring insanity. He always brings it down to the level of a "normal human being" and gets Jocko to peel back the layers and look at it from that point of view as well. Very lucky to be able to watch these two gentleman converse so often.
Absolutely!
💯
True
love em both
1:32:04 - How to increase confidence.
echo: "what do you do when you're not getting after it?"
jocko: "..getting after it"
Lol!
😂
Echo is getting so sassy in here, it's awesome to hear more from him! Great Q&A.
He tends to get sassy when it's a topic he knows. And knows he knows
Yeah those ads were fucking great
I do not understand
When he defended his "moving your body through space" philosophy
Also it brings out the best in Jocko, he needs resistance to push against.
I am enjoying Echo's banter with Jocko more than ever. He is really insightful.
"c'mon, you guys know what to eat - let's rock 'n roll." - jocko willink
I have never felt so confident!!! Not because Jocko gives me motivation. No! Because he has shown me the path. The path that is paved with DISCIPLINE. The path that leads to creativity and victory. The path that makes me faster, stronger, smarter, BETTER! The path that builds my character. The path that leads to FREEDOM! God speed echo and Jocko, on the campaign against weakness!
!!!!!! Hell yes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 💪🤝👏👊
Update?
Jesus, sounds like you joined the cult. Props on the passion and discipline though.
As I read this I imagined a regular dudes voice then it transitioned to Jocko’s voice when you wrote DISCIPLINE.
Echo: "What do you do that's completely unproductive"
Jocko:
Damn if that's not a winner mentality idk what is
Does this guy watch movies, tv, or play video games at all? That's what normal people do that is unproductive/relaxing. His way of relaxing is surfing, playing guitar and yard work. Lol crazy
@@jeffreypaula2739 i would argue there is a mental benifit to all of those
@@dehvun7 I agree with you. There's nothing wrong with movies/tv/video game, as long as they are not ruining other parts of your life. What if you spend so much time practicing jiu jitsu or exercising, that you get bad grades, lose relationships, get fired, etc.? Then even something as positive as those can be bad. As a guitarist myself, I have seen people fail college because they would rather play guitar than go to class.
@@lucabaki No. Video games can have meaningful lessons, and impactful narrative arcs in and of themselves. They can, in fact, be works of art. There are things that you can get from them that you wont find in other places. You just have to know where to look, and be open minded enough to receive it. Like I said above, maintaining a healthy balance is key.
So a light day for Jocko is 100 burpees. Got it.
I love how Jocko's entire ethos is smmed up by: Take responsibility, don't be lazy, do jiu jitsu and eat steak.
How do I get better? Jocko: You get better.
Good evening Echo.
Good evening *arms open jacked as fuck*
Not said seriously enough. 100 burpies ..begin !!
These two play off each other SO well. Love it.
Discipline equals freedom.
Freedom requires self control.
Self control is discipline.
💞💞💞
Right after this video, I'm gonna move my body through space.
I’m at works right now at Sprouts farmer market
Pushing carts
I suppose I’m pushing some weight through space
Every single time I listen to this podcast I am amazed at how unbelievably full of useful, practical, and necessary information every single podcast has. I even imagine every podcast at the start will be the one that is a disaster and I am instantly proven wrong within the first 5 minutes of every single podcast. For people that think they have a seemingly meaningless job, responsibility, or thing that needs attended to. I pray you stumble upon jockos podcast and you can fill supposed useless time with the extraordinary advice jocko, echo, and the many distinguished guests have to offer.
31:51 gets me every time - GUAAAAM
Something badass surely went down in Guam
Take a break
Eat some steak
My motto goin into 2020
I hope you've eaten a lot of steak since you commented this
Too bad you're probably out of toilet paper
This didn’t age well. Hope you took and break and ate some steak pal
Mask off fuck it mask off
@@jakedvorak8270 lmfao! I tell people "Its all good dude, I'm immune"
This aged so well
Echo is really really good at getting Jacko to give more depth in some of these answers. Work/Life balance was a great example.
Echo mentions old school Bulgarian workout Wow. I am Bulgarian, both Echo and Jocko are invited to train at my gym. You guys are awesome.
The Bulgarian training style is very famous among dedicated lifters
This podcast never lets me down. Jocko and Echo give so much perspective to “ADULTING” . I’m enticed to want to have FREEDOM through DISCIPLINE. Help me become a better person. I owe it to myself. Forever grateful to you guys.
I can’t get enough of this banter. You’ve produced a productive use of humor, gentlemen. Good job, carry on.
"Hey, it's easy - Just change your whole life!" - potential book title?
The lunch discussion is real. The social pressure to eat with my team is real. It's like, "we're going to lunch" and people will wait for you to get to from your desk. Thing is, at the company I work at, we have a chef and lunch is free, so there's more pressure because if you don't want to eat free food cooked by the in house restaurant, you're not only breaking the team dynamic, but surely there must be something wrong with you. I found another intermittent faster and try to get on his schedule a bit.
I've put on a few pounds since starting about a year ago, but the one saving grace to the situation is that we have a park with a few paths around a lake connected to the building, so we also take a 1-2 mile walk after lunch and I've found I can defer lunch and tell the rest of my team I'll join them for the post-lunch walk. Still, when I first started working where I'm at, it took me a while to figure out how to navigate the situation.
Echo’s thoughts on “body movement through space” are top notch 😆💪
jacko fucking his wife:D
I swear echo cant make a point without an extremely random example
Keeps things entertaining. Hes like the comedy relief in this lol
Mayo. Chicken. Peas. PB&J.
But it's imp-ort-ant....
Paul Murphy LOL love his accent
Lmao! I love his examples!
I love when these two engage. They have good dynamic! Echo giving different scenarios really tests Jacko’s wisdom! 😎💪
It really tests his Patience sometimes. Lol!
Good evening
"Throw the book and her and say, you need to square away and read this book."
Rolling😂
That CONFIDENCE Speech was HARD! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾 . Well done Guys! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Seriously, Jocko's demeanor changed into warrior mode
7:15 Tater chips on the Sammie! Yasss!
9:15 Canned chicken, mustard and mayo makes good, cheap chicken salad.
The story about the Upa drill reminded me of why I picked one BJJ school over the other. The reason I passed on the one I did was because during the trial class, the junior instructor (late teen blue belt) asked if anybody in the group had any prior knowledge of BJJ. I raised my hand & said I knew the Upa drill, front-to-back. He looked at me like I had an arm growing outta my head & said he'd never heard of that. He then proceeded TO WALK THE GROUP THROUGH THE UPA DRILL, but he called it some 6 or 7-word long absurdity of a name. I shook my head, finished the class & chose the competing school.
1:32:04 helped me tremendously. Thank you
I really dig these Q&A episodes. Also, special guest ones too.
I love how Echo understands that simple things to Jocko are not that simple to average people like me and him bringing it on the table helps Jocko to explain it more to us so that we get it.
I love how his answer for everything is ju-jitsu 😂😂😂 or involves it in some shape or form 🤣
I got rhabdo. Kidney failure. Pissed brown with blood. Started going blind. The worst feeling. Mouth completely dried out and could not salivate no matter how much water I drank. 3 days in the Hospital. Creatinine Kinase level 40,000. It takes forever to get back to normal and get after it again. Mentally you hesitate to go as hard. Finally recovered now and hittin hard again. Make sure you stay hydrated, fully nourished and get sleep. If you're cutting, be careful. Pay close attention to yourself.
Im 30 and enlisted this year.
Its all about your mindset and perspective.
My husband has been studying leadership so I bought "Extreme Ownership" for him. He has read/listened to it at least twice in the first month.
Thank you for making these
Good advice! I concur! The best revenge is hands-down success. Pure awesomeness and appreciate timing of this!
Can’t wait for the “how to increase confidence” clip to be posted
with echo charles, and me, jocko willink, the human thumb.
Bhahahhaa
Love how Jocko is sat there casually exhibiting a knife around during this podcast 🤣
Thank You both for putting leadership on full display!
Hey Jocko, today marks the 01/01/2019 and this is my first podcast of yours I've listened too and at the 1:35:26 mark in the video after you speak on how to really gain confidence as well as that being enough confidence to accept that all else is okay. I really enjoy hearing your wisdom forreal and I just wanted to share that with you, again Jocko thank you. Very much appreciative.
Jocko is next level. Love listening to the podcast when Im grinding. (:
Have been searching for books, videos, articles, mentors, and employment that would give me the confidence to become a TRUE leader. Just found your book "Extreme Ownership" with Leif Babin on Amazon a few days ago and bought the audible version. Damn. It has opened my eyes and changed me already. In the past, I have avoided leadership roles and rejected supervisor position offerings (even a few weeks ago). Now, with edge you guys have given me, I WANT to lead and build my own team of leaders. Thank You. Subscribed.
One word for Echo,
JACKED
Good evening
Keep em coming
I love the subtle-not-so-subtle transition into the last 30 minutes of commercials. I understand it, and I prefer that they are all grouped at the end so I don't have to deal with them during the podcast, but we all definitely embrace the suck when it starts coming on.
Brah... That's the top 3 best parts
Great words at 1:26:25 about leaving a job. I'm pissed off with my colleagues at the moment and I want to go where I can be appreciated, so this is timely advice. Thanks.
Chop the chicken up even more. I want to see a cooking with echo video in the future
Love these Q/A's with Jocko and Echo. Great conversation.
I love when Echo bites back!!
The quietest guy in the room is one of the most dangerous. Echo really put on a nice rant during this podcast. I like it.

Jocko - guest appearance on Office Reboot after DM hires Echlon
Thanks Jocko and Echo, love this podcast.
yo echo can get deep on the simplest shit. that guy is golden man. they balance each out pretty good. just added doing a shit of shrooms with echo and jocko on my bucket list. #LawofAttraction
Cold chills jocko knows whats up on being an artist/musician!
Word
1:20:50 Is that discipline? Best question ever. Nice to see Jocko's hesitation. I would answer "no" to this question. Discipline is not something natural, discipline involves doing something we wouldn't like to be doing at that particular moment.
I JUST HAD LUNCH...
GOOD EVENING!!!
With this whole “moving your body thru space thing” 🤣
Revolutionary idea
There is so much in this to take away.... gonna have to listen a few times. Epic

Ok Echo philosophizing about drunk girl fails is probably the funniest thing I've ever heard
lol !!! 30:40 : echo was like, "no , no , no. WAIT!"
I live my life by the doctrine of jocko
You guys are, in short, amazing! Keep it up. Inspiring to us all that listen to you guys. 💯🇺🇸
Echo 🔥 insights on here. Also loved how he got Jocko to further some of his thoughts than he would’ve if Echo was not there
Echo and Jocko getting crazy with cans of Celsius Heat everywhere...
Echo is on fiya! On this vid lol 🤣lovit
Lol 9:37 when he’s “sautéing” 😂

Thank you very much!
43:00 The "moving your body through space" convo 💀
yeah that confused me right there
1:32:14. How to increase your confidence
A great session, learning more and just being better from the knowledge gain here.
51:01 forgive or settle score. Great advice
Being an Englishman, hearing Jocko mock his wife's names for foods was hilarious. We have too many names for foods, like we say ham cob, ham batch, ham bap, etc. And people literally get into arguments in England about which one is the correct one...
Those on the path do not touch bread. It's ham roll by the way.
Get on the Cob path, son!
I think that any activity that requires mental focus, attention and problem solving is productive and or beneficial for the brain (in certain respects). Discipline goes hand and hand with that type of process whether the process is for work or leisure. It’s when the brain is idle and not having to be used, that counter productivity arises; binge CZcams fail vids, hours of mindless TV.
55:27 Had me in stitches. What a fucking trooper. You legend Jocko. That's great advise. Keep going!
I wouldn't dismiss mindless entertainment like funny videos, this kind of relaxation helps to fight the unresolved stress levels.
I think If you watch it in moderation it's very beneficial.
I found that the best approach is to:
1. Watch some of it when you are very tired to regain motivation,
2. Focus on enjoying the videos, don't think about wasting your time,
3. As soon as your energy level's up, go back to doing some more important stuff.
MYYY MAN JOCKO LIKES THE PROPER VERSION OF THE OFFICE!!!
Good Q & A guys ......
Thank you ......
I love Tenacious D. A lot of people hate on them but they always put a smile on my face haha
Love q and a
Love the bluntness!
Tkank you guys. Keep doin the work.
Jocko mentioned The Office and mentioned organizational hierarchies. I read a book called The Gervais Principle by Venkatesh Rao which is all about the organizational hierarchies in The Office tv show and how it applies in real life. It was a fascinating book.
I build houses and you are hungry 24/7. Lotta ham sandwiches, jerky, gatorade, potato salad and granola type bars. I always have a big can of mixed nuts in my truck. Coffee, coffee, coffee haha
Some good advice here, I've been a female in a beginner's marital arts classes and all the guys want to do is take out their frustration on someone else - they often even get extra aggressive with females as we get to be a stand in for every woman that's ever turned them down. So thank you for making it ok for women to not have to go through that nonsense.
Q: Does focusing on a single subject inhibit creativity
A: No
And coming from a genuinely creative person, everything Jocko said was accurate and the example he used with Jimmy Page was an excellent choice. You want to get good at something, crack down on it. Become proficient in multiple worlds and bring them together.
Another thing I would like to add is: learn how to learn. Learn how to break new things down and find ways to see the key aspects that construct (x) topic
Eat enough sleep enough all training programs work if you work them !!! Fired up and simple !!
