Guys, don't lose hope. As someone who has the most aggressive hair loss (my two brothers were Norwood 7 by 28-30), not to mention aggressive retrograde alopecia as well, all my cousins in both families are Norwood 6-7 by 30. I am 32 and have managed to keep 90% of my hair. Unfortunately I experienced bad side effects from finasteride and had to quit. However, using minoxidil + microneedling saved my hair. I strongly believe that DHT is related to blood circulation, which in turn due to low supply leads to hair loss. I used a derma roller + minoxidil and kept losing hair. Once I switched to a high-quality pen, within two months my shedding stopped and my hair started to get thicker by month 4 with a lot of new growth.I have followed this protocol for 5 years and haven't lost ground. My mom, she's at her 60s, I did the same routine to her (But 2% min instead of 5%), She got her hair back and even grey hairs became darker, blood is everything, blood is life. It's possible-just be consistent. use a good Pen and do NOT skip sessions. If it worked for me and for my mom it should work for EVERYONE.

When your start using min, you are MARRIED to this unfortunately. If you stop, anything you gained will be gone. With the combination with microneedling you will keep lots of gain but still not everything. No, it does not effects hormones at all but some people reported it aged there's faces (There are researches that it decrease collagen), however not 100% sure. Me, my mom, my friends are using, zero issues and tons of growth.

I'm a male but when I got on my ADHD medication for the first time my hair loss even reversed some before I hopped on finasteride and minoxidil. My anxiety and stress levels were insane before Adderall so stress for sure plays a huge part in hairloss.

Adhd is also often a dopamine deficiency, and dopamine and cortisol are inversely linked. Chronically low dopamine means chronically high cortisol, which often leads to autoimmune disorders. Which can cause hair loss. So treating ADHD can prevent or treat autoimmune illnesses.

@veilmontTV sorry, I wasn't saying you necessarily had an autoimmune illness. Stress can cause hair loss on its own, but that's separate from androgenetic hair loss. It can join forces with androgentic hair loss though and make it all worse.
Androgenetic hair loss is specifically the type of hairloss caused by androgens, it's not caused by stress. You can look it up. Hairloss due to stress is telogen effluvium.

I had a massive hair loss early this year due to telogen effluvium related to stress which accelerated my androgenetic alopecia. Instead of relaxing, I was stressed even more and it became a very nasty cycle. I could literally touch my hair and it would just falloff in large amounts. Long story short, I started oral and topical minoxidil and I’m almost my third month and my hair has started growing again and is coming in in load. Hair loss may not seem like the end of the world for some people but to us experiencing hair loss is very traumatic.

An Indian female who faced an accident 10years back, faced noticeable shedding of brow hair and scalp hair which grew back. But, I lost 40% of my frontal hair after I got dengue in the subsequent year. I was in my teens which subjected me to a lot of bullying from my classmates. It was a very painful period for me since, I lost all the confidence in me. Year 2018 severely bothered by my hair growth, I consulted a dermat who recommended me 2% minoxidil. Rectified my diet, ensured that I am getting enough proteins (As North Indians are mostly vegetarians).
2023 - I exercise regularly now and I follow an absolutely no sugar, very low salt and seasoning diet along with protein intake supplemented with multivitamins, rosemary oil and minoxidil. I can see a gradual improvement in my hair quality.

My hair had always been a huge part of my identity. It was always complimented by others and I never had to worry. Until recently when I’ve noticed some thinning at the part, and sunburns with scalp showing in the summer. My mum and sister have experienced hair loss and my mum had scarring alopecia. Suddenly I’m confronted with so much fear that I will also experience this. It’s barely noticeable, but that goes to show how much we value our hair and how devastating it can be to consider losing it, especially as a woman. I’m very grateful that I’ve caught this early, and I’m taking steps to get a blood test and then see a dermatologist. I know I had covid more than once in 2022, I dyed my hair and noticed excess shedding after that, and I have a past of some extreme dieting, so I’m sure there is more than one factor involved. My dad has amazing hair which has only recently started to thin a little in his 60s, so hopefully I’m riding on some of those genes.

This video should be compulsory for all pcps and dermatologists treating women with hair loss; listen and focus on the correct diagnosis! I had spironolactone prescribed at too high a starting dose with no tests/blood work/medical history collected: the result was that my already naturally low blood pressure "bottomed out" and left me almost comatose (using the term loosely). Every MD I spoke with failed to test my DHT levels; 15 yrs into my hairloss journey I discovered my DHT was elevated 10x, only to be informed that treatment was not warranted until the levels were much higher! This is my experience with a plethora of MDs in New York City, hailing from such prestigious medical centers as Mount Sinai and New York Presbyterian. The pervading ignorance surrounding female hair loss is horrifying!

If you are for sure done having kids, and your hair loss is androgenic alopecia, 5AR inhibitors (finasteride and dutasteride) are effective for women. The reason they aren't given to women is because they can mess up a male fetus (at least this is my understanding on why women don't get them prescribed. There are studies showing these drugs are effective for women with androgenic alopecia. If you're not done having kids, wait on this though.
Minoxdil also works. I am a guy, but I've had decent results with oral minoxidil. My beard has gotten thicker, so that may not be a good side effect for you (I think of it as a great bonus for me).

I had a receding hairline and thinning all around the front. I just noticed a couple weeks ago that I have a bunch of new hair growth! I'm convinced the reason it's regrowing is because I improved my diet. Since February (it's now mid-November), I've been eating high quality proteins (grass-fed beef and dairy, organic pasture raised eggs and chicken with the skin, organic no sugar added pork, and sometimes wild caught salmon) plus a big salad every day. I'm pretty sure the zinc, iron, fat/collagen and biotin from the proteins as well as the silica and folate from the vegetables is what did it. I also greatly reduced my bad habit of eating out so much, which I think was causing my system to spend its resources on fighting inflammation from cheap seed oils that commercial food is cooked with, instead of wasting its resources on my hair. Anyway, before you spend a ton of money on treatments and supplements, maybe try repairing your hair through nutritious food first - you've got to eat anyway and you might as well spend your money on that. Good luck everyone, I still have a ways to go and I know how devastating this is.

Honestly using rosemary oil on my scalp twice a week has helped as well as using a silk pillowcases and a silk bonnet , changing to a Denman brush and taking biotin and collagen. Also doing an apple cider vinegar rinse once and awhile give hair shine
It won't reverse hair loss but it helps with your hair now and makes it healthier

      Depends on your hair type
If you have straight or wavy hair I think a boat bristle is a great way to go. It helps move your natural oils plus any oils you add on down the hair shaft.
I use a Denman 7 row brush without boar bristles as I have 3c or very curly hair. It helps define my curls and it's surprisingly more gentle on my hair then the Wet brand brush
Also depending on your hair type is curly -you may want to try untangling your hair very carefully in the shower when it's full of conditioner
If it's more straight or slightly wavy wait until it's dry then work through starting at the bottom
Going without heat styling also helps hair. Heat can be drying
Depending on length it can be fun to experiment with heatless rag or pin curls, braiding hair while damp then going to bed with it in those braids, or using granny Velcro curlers. Protective stylings can help too like loose buns, braids, box braids , head wraps etc. Basically experiment with what works for you your hair type and your lifestyle.
      Happy hair growth friend

This is a great post. I am a black woman who wore wigs for 12 years as a fashion accessory. Of course, I didn't realise the damage I was causing until my hair started breaking. Then I read about the miracles of onion juice, which caused the worst damage as my hair fell out in handfuls. For the past two years, I have stopped wearing wigs using homemade products and started to use high street products like olive oil, castor oil and leave-in conditioners. My hair improved greatly, but the two bald spots I inherited from wearing wigs and using onion juice rinse never fully recovered. My crown is still thin. My bald spots on each side of my head are fairly visible, too. You mentioned the health of nails, which I found very intriguing because if you see how my nails grow long, you'll never believe they belonged to me. I am 52, and my iron is good, but my vitamin D was low in my recent bloodwork. So, I guess if the bald spots still haven't grown back properly, they never will, right? I've lost all hope.

I'm a female and I started slowly but gradually losing hair in my temple area maybe 2 yrs ago. I was also getting a lot more hair clogging my shower drain, and coming out in my brush. I went to my derm who did the pull test, and I tested positive in every area except the crown. She had me start topical liquid minoxidil, and Hair La Vie vitamins. By 3 to 4 months in I noticed a massive difference. My hair wasn't falling out anymore and I could see new regrowth along my front and temple hairline. I dropped my minoxidil to once a day after the first 5 months. And I had amazing thick hair (as it had always been) for about a year. Then as if out of nowhere my hair started falling out again. It's now worse than it's ever been. The only area that hasn't thinned is the very top of my head. And I've never stopped my vitamins or the minoxidil. I don't get it. It's super depressing. Every time I think about my hair I get depressed. And the only thing I can think of that changed is I was put on a blood thinner. But my vascular dr reassures me it shouldn't affect my hair because of the type it is. So I'm at a loss. Wish I had an answer. I will say my mom's hair thinned out considerably once she got in her 50s. But I just turned 42. So idk, maybe it's genetic and I have no hope.

I tried hair la vie and nothing happened, hair kept shedding. Tried other hair vitamins and biotin still nothing changed, more thinning more shedding. I'm done on hair vitamins, I'm using natural hair oils only from crisan hair and topical biotin hair serum from difeel. I see thickness improvement and shedding gradually slowing. Its all hormone related, high testosterone dht androgens, coupled with stress which makes everything worse worrying about lossing your hair. I'm thankful fir natural remedies and not progressed hair loss at least. Vinegar hair rinse helps purify the scalp and strengthen hair. Stay away from sulfates in shampoos it doesn't help with hair loss but accelerates the process. Ive also had oily roots dry ends my whole life, so clarifying shampoos once a week will help.

So I do think it worked in that aspect, but no idea about my scalp. My derm had said their were only 2 vitamins that have studies proven to regrow hair, and Hair La Vie was the cheaper of the 2, that's why I chose it. But yeah who knows how much of a difference it makes on the scalp. Oh I've also been off my blood thinner for 2 mths (I'm taking a baby aspirin instead because I have a leg stent for May Thurners syndrome) and I've seen no improvement. So it definitely wasn't the blood thinner.

I’ve always had a very high, stressful life raising three kids while working full-time and going to college full-time. I started getting thinner hair in my mid-30s. I am now 47 and my hair is still thin compared to what it used to be but I also have these random bumps, not like pimples, but kind of raised slightly, but very hard like dandruff almost I kind of think it might be plaque psoriasis based on the fact that it is regrowth constantly like I can scratch some of it off and then with an hour sick grows back and it’s just very hard dandruff looking stuff and I’ve had it for a few years now I haven’t seen a doctor. I never have time to see a doctor because I work two jobs. I also have a ganglion cyst on the back of my knee that I’ve been standing on for two months now. Lol. One day I plan to see a dermatologist and a regular doctor lol I’m terrible at keeping up with my own health. I’ve definitely aged in the past three years. I’ve always look younger like 12 years younger than what I am people would think that I am my daughters sister or friend, but I’ve had so much things happen in the last three years like I literally lost the Home that I was living in with my husband (only married a few years since my kids were old enough where I could start dating and moved in to his house) because my marriage ended due to his kids, being too violent and out of control to put myself in that situation, since nobody acknowledged it, I had a judgment I didn’t even know about so I had just lost my car a week before that happened and then a few weeks later I lost my job because I lost my car and was late a lot. All of this happened in one month it caused severe depression because I am a workaholic, and then Covid happened, which I worked through two part-time jobs just to make half of my old pay and that definitely caused severe depression and realizing that I’m working 80 hours a week and have an education but I had to do what I had to do while everyone was sitting at home, collecting unemployment, getting more than what I was making with two jobs, and trying to get out of the financial ruin that happened because of this with student loans and now I’m in a much better situation and job however, I am still recovering from all the finances that went along with it as in the divorce I left him with all of MY STUFF, and only took my two dogs who are my support system. I am one of those people. I enjoyed learning every single day and I just lost interest in. Everything was suicidal depressed constantly wanted to die but the only thing keeping me going was my dogs because I did not want to stress my family out with all of my issues. I am one of those people that don’t talk about things much And I try to be strong and fight through it all. I’ve had a very rough life my entire life. And now I definitely were 10 years older or I guess my age but I’m not happy with a few wrinkles that I have but my hair being thinner and on top of that my gums started receding and I lost enamel in my front teeth so now they are starting to decay so on top of every wonderful thing I have that to deal with and now I’m trying to fix my credit that’s been terrible for all these years so I can get financing for that because with two insurances, it will still cost 10,000!! Lol so when I don’t have any bad luck happening to me, I start wondering what really bad is going to happen because I don’t ever look forward to good things happening. Just hoping that nothing bad happens and I know obviously there’s a lot more people in the world dealing with much more, but I have also already been through so much prior to all of that. That’s just a crazy thing that happened within one month and when people say losing a job as one of the worst things that can happen to someone I don’t think they realize how bad it can get it when you don’t have much to begin with, and you had to work really hard for everything you had been trying to find another job just to be turned down for over 100 jobs because you’re overqualified!!! Lol. People don’t understand how hair loss and tooth loss can cause so much depression in someone especially when you are someone who works and pays for insurance yet insurance doesn’t help for people to have better dental care and tooth replacement, which affects their health their mental health their ability to just try to maybe get better jobs that force you to be more in a public eye instead of hiding behind a computer working remotely from home because you’re terrified of what people my judge you for on your appearance. Lol long tangent I am just hate that there are a lot of people suffering from things like this that others don’t really understand how much it affects them and their mental health and may think it’s just hair, but it isn’t to a lot of people, it’s more than that.
    I do have to say Dr. Gary you look amazing I have followed you for a while and no your story even when you lost most of your hair, you were always an attractive man but I am very glad that everything is coming back as it was and happy, but this is happened for you.       Had a tumultuous life too. I’m going through health stuff right now too, have fibromyalgia, depression and anxiety, started having Telogen effluvium in 2019 and saw a dermatologist in 2022. Got better, but still not like it was. It does effect your sense of worth, and is hard to not be down about. You sound like a strong lady. I’m glad you have your pups. We can always count on our cats and dogs to love us. {{hugs!}}

My issue seems so mild considering what some go through but at 70 a cowlick which hairdresser said I’ve always had, is causing my hair to split and look dirty. I don’t notice hair thinning other than that spot. Wonder if there are any spot treatments?

Can I use minoxidil if I don't have hair loss, but I just want my hair to grow longer and be thicker?

Very enlightening thank you 🙏 I’m 65, on no meds, no med conditions.. hairs always been fine and fairly thin. Any shedding concerns me 😁 how much is “normal”??

I counted a shed of 75 hairs when I washed my hair yesterday. Seems excessive because I’m gently combing out tangles from bottom up using a wet brush. WTH
