Film Disription: In a mysterious universe, the Green Lantern Corps, an elite defense force of peace and justice have existed for centuries. Reckless test pilot Hal Jordan acquires superhuman powers when he is chosen by the Ring, the willpower-fed source of power. Reluctantly at first, he takes on the challenge after the death of Abin Sur, the finest Green Lantern. Putting his self-doubts aside, and spurred on by his sense of duty and love for his beautiful, intellectually equal, colleague, Carol Ferris, he is soon called to defend mankind from Parallax, a powerful, evil being who feeds on fear. Hal Jordan is the universe's last chance, as many Green Lanterns have been killed and the Corps is weakened. And he might just be the right Green Lantern for the duty of keeping the world safe from harm.
Director: Martin Campbell
Cast: Ryan Reynolds (Hal Jordan / Green Lantern), Blake Lively (Carol Ferris), Peter Sarsgaard (Hector Hammond), Mark Strong (Sinestro), Tim Robbins (Hammond), Jay O. Sanders (Carl Ferris), Taika Waititi (Tom Kalmaku), Angela Bassett (Doctor Waller) ...

It always bothered me how in a lot of sci-fi movies, aliens always spoke and understood English, so I liked how DC explains that the Lanterns do it because their rings translate other languages to the wearer’s language and vice versa
There’s a great episode of the obscure Green Lantern animated series where they get lost on an alien planet and their rings run out of power so they can’t communicate properly. It was one of those episodes that I used to watch all the time as a child so I can remember that it was episode 21 “Babel”. Probably a reference to the Biblical story about languages being divided so humans couldn’t understand each other.
I saw some of that episode years ago, but couldn’t finish it because I had to go to work. If memory serves, the other guy was a Red Lantern

Definitely the best scene in the movie imo and one of my fav super hero movie moments
I love how Hal and Tomar-Re have different flying styles. Tomar-Re's flying style looks fluid and graceful, making it look like he's swimming through the air, whereas Hal's flying movements look more simple and basic, with his limbs just kinda dangling. Nice callback to the "sharing DNA with fish" line.
He looks more like a seahorse than a fish
I love how some of the weird CGI alien Green Lanterns look. So very very cool. Mark Strong slayed as Sinestro.

That Sinestro speech at the end gave me chills.
Sinestro in the comics turns out to be a Space Hitler (he used the power of the Green Lantern to make himself the dictator over his home planet), so it makes sense he'd be good at rallying crowds with a rousing speech about acting in unity and destroying their enemies. It's right up his alley.
dammit....mark strong is too damn good! bring this man AGAIN to the role, he is PERFECT for sinestro!

The flying part of this clip is my favorite. perfect illustration of how a Green Lantern moves in the air. Gracefully and with great agility.
This movie had the potential to be great but they wanted to much. They should have focused on the Corps and space. The Hector Hammend- love- triangle- Thing realy broke its back.
Strongly agreed

Yes, there are good moments. The basic story as well as the theme is clear and suit the character of Green Lantern.
Not to mention that they made Hal into a irresponsible buffoon. It's one thing to be afraid, but overcoming it is what makes him a great test pilot and why the ring chose him. I love green lantern and the corp was sad to see what they did to it. Now they can't use Ryan Reynolds anymore. Not when he's made fun of the movie in 2 Deadpool films. He was one of the best choices to be Hal.
Yeah while Mark Strong gave an awesome performance as Sinestro and Ryan could’ve been a great Hal Jordan but he had an awful script to work with
Some DC Comics' history to provide context to this scene, and to Sinestro's tragic tale and fall from grace...
1. *_First Among Equals_** ~* Technically, all Green Lanterns within the GL Corps are of equal standing (not including the GL trainees, of course). However...
- a.) Sinestro was so highly regarded and respected among the GL Corps, that almost all other Green Lanterns considered Sinestro their leader/commander by default when grouped with Sinestro for any missions.
- b.) The GL Corps generally looked to Sinestro for overall GL Corps' leadership/direction.
- c.) The GL Corps generally considered Sinestro as their primary representative for when needing to bring an issue before the full council of the Guardians of the Universe.
2. *_Admiration, to Arrogance, to Hubris_** ~* To his credit, Sinestro did earnestly take his GL Corps' duties seriously. However, and sadly...
- a.) The reliance of the GL Corps upon Sinestro to lead them, was a titan's burden of stress in of itself, in being responsible for over 3,600+ lives. For context: there are 3,600 space-sectors that are known/mapped in the DC Universe (with plenty of unmapped "frontier" space beyond), and some space-sectors have more than just one (1x) Green Lantern protecting them; Sector 2814 (Earth) has *SIX* (6x) Green Lanterns as of year 2020.
- b.) The adoration of most of the GL Corps, particularly the younger/newer Green Lanterns, which led to Sinestro having very few "peers" he could call true friends (Abin Sur and Tomar Re being two of them). This admiration, adoration, and isolation, would (sadly) feed into Sinestro's ego.
- c.) Eventually, Sinestro's ego turned into self-assured Arrogance (that he knew better/best), and from there to Hubris (that he could do no wrong). Sinestro eventually came to believe he could do better than the Guardians of the Universe, and act proactively to bring his vision of Order to the universe, rather the Guardians' simpler (but generally wiser) policy of Protection and Guardianship (but overall non-interference to a planet/race's own development).
3. Mark Strong really knocked it out of the park as Sinestro. Sinestro, before his fall, is supposed to be a heroic and admirable figure; which in-turn makes Sinestro's fall to irredeemable Evil and Villainy all the more tragic.
Thanks for uploading this, *Flashback FM.* :)
Thank for writing. I enjoyed that.

That was extremely funny.
The single most purest comic book movie moment ever made 😭 As a huge Green Lantern fan/reader, this scene was a dream come true
This clip is my favorite scene. Green Lantern theme is an excellent role model for children. Their brains are limited only by their imaginations. Each child is a Green Lantern ... you only have to WILL something into existence. Here's a rhetorical question for you: What do we mean when we say, "You only have to WILL something into existence"?
Kiddo, if you're feeling sad, lonely, angry, betrayed, abused, neglected ... take comfort in knowing that nothing lasts forever. Know this: You can free yourself of these negative feelings. How? The answer: You must WILL the positivity into existence. How? Pick up a quality book, read it ... really read it! Learn to network with it ... make it part of you. As you read the book, take time to observe the natural world: Observe the people around you, the situations are home, school, at play and at work.
In those situation where you actively observe the natural world, learn where and how the book makes sense to you. The goal is to acquire knowledge and new skills. Knowledge and skills will give you power to do the good and wholesome things in life. There will be times in your life when you'll need all your learning to do what is necessary ... and that makes you a hero ... that makes you mighty. With knowledge and skills, you'll be equipped with the required mental tools "to Will something into existence." Capisce!

Oa was around before the lanterns were created and all the lanterns don't live there anyway...Alot of them live in there respective sectors

James Newton Howard did such an amazing job with that score! Love the track in this scene! One of the best scenes in a comic book movie! Such an uplifting track and it goes well with this scene!
Feel like the only thing that people don't like about this movie is the uniforms. I think it was a pretty solid movie, like yeah it could've been better, but overall I believe it was pretty decent.
no it's not, the uniforms look alright, they were hella expensive but alright. The problem with the movie was mainly the plot, which has nothing to do with any GL story and takes place way too much on Earth. If they focused more on space and less on Earth, cutting many parts from that Hector Hammond subplot it would've been at least better. I mean, Parallax is a little out of place and his story is much larger that the one told in the movie but it wasn't bad, he looked horrible, but his plot wasn't half bad. Overall, without many time-consuming subplots and better characterization it could've gotten at least a 55-60% on RT
The only real problem I had with the movie was the plot and the villain. I actually liked the suit. Not the mask but the suit.
Nah, the script and story were a bit weak. It’s not a bad film or incompetent, just not a very good film.
Razur also the villain monster thing was eh
I don't mind the suits but why cgi

@@Angbuhang every five minutes is a much needed improvement from what marvel movies do
Saying that when one ring holder dies that "no one can replace him" he is straight forward denying the selection of the ring. Cause they established in the movie ring chooses it's holder.
And separating one in the crowd does not resonate as a good community, moreover where living beings from all over the galaxy join together in the green lantern corp.
Sinestro was a conceited douchebag. Thats why his true colors comes out and he takes on the fear ring. He liked control and terrorizing/bullying others.
That's sinestro for you
In all honesty… this escene was the best moment out of the entire movie.
From 0:00 - 1:10, this (to Me) is the most memorable and genuinely good sequence of this film. James Newton Howard's sweeping score is what really makes it work most of all.
Tomar-Re seems like a nice alien friend to have, and I love his voice. It sounds so legendary, when he explains everything about the Green Lantern Corps to Hal.
This movie is so much underrated...I love it

You know, despite the fact that this film had some obvious flaws, I felt it was and still is awesome. In my heart, I’ve always been a fan of DC more than I have Marvel. Sure, Marvel has the storytelling down, but DC carries with it strong messages of morality, identity, and humanity. People keep saying that Hal Jordan was never afraid, that he was an adrenaline junkie, able to push past his limits, cocky, bullheaded, volatile, brash. But no one seems to understand that he’s like that because he is afraid, that his arrogant identity is a mask to shield how he really feels, that he is afraid. And that is what I think this film does so well. It shows that everyone has the ability to push past their own fears, and will themselves to become better.
Dc fails in every category.
Marvel wins.
Well said sir, as a comic reader myself I'm a huge fan of the Green lantern's

As much as everyone doesn’t seem to be fond of this film too well. I always have a soft spot for it for some reason. James Newton Howard composing the soundtrack the film is one of the reasons why! He always brings out the magic and fantasy in his creations!

This was a great movie idk know why a lot of people didn’t like it?
Writing wasn't all that great, and the story they went [Parallax + Hector Hammond] with probably wasn't what I'd consider ideal.
Bad dialog was one problem. The other one was having Sinestro but not using him. Parallax should have been kept as a teased villain at the very end. Sinestro would have made a perfect villain. Here's a way they could have done it, using a slightly modified version of the fall of Sinestro in the comics:
Sinestro is still friends with Abin Sur. Instead of rejecting Hal Jordan (as in the main movie), he decides to take Hal under his wing and shape him into the best Green Lantern he can possibly be, because his friend Abin Sur's memory deserves nothing less than that. He still rides Hal hard, but with a sort of father/big-brother demeanor. Hal starts to get sucked into that dynamic, having lost his father at a young age. But we start to see cracks in the perfect ersatz Dad image. His disdainful attitude toward non-Lanterns. His emphasis on the importance of constant control, of everything, all the time, to prevent disaster. It doesn't seem odd to Sinestro, but it rubs human, American Hal Jordan the wrong way.
Finally, as a capstone to Hal's training, Sinestro takes him to his home world, to show Hal how a perfect Green Lantern can create a perfect world for the people under his protection. Everywhere there are banners with Sinestro's face and hordes of uniformed police with Green Lantern symbols on their red armbands. Order is perfectly enforced, because everyone is terrified of Sinestro's enforcers. Hal is able to see the terrified looks the citizens carefully never let show on their faces when Sinestro is looking at them.
Hal confronts Sinestro about his having made himself a dictator who controls every aspect of his people's lives. Sinestro responds by claiming this is what Green Lanterns are supposed to do, and that if he is to honor Abin Sur, he needs to take Earth under his firm hand, and that if he doesn't, Sinestro will have to do it for him, because he won't let Abin's legacy be tainted by Hal's weakness.
Hall tells him he'll do it, but then flies to Oa to talk to Kilowog and Tomar-Re. At first, they refuse to believe him. Hal misunderstands and thinks the Green Lantern Corps supports fascism. We get the scene of him quitting and flying back to Earth, and his lover convincing him that being courageous is the core of being human and being a Lantern. We get the scene with Sinestro and Hal in front of the Guardians, but it's Hal arguing to them that what Sinestro has done is turning his planet into a beacon of fear instead of a beacon of hope. The Guardians (who know about Parallax and what feeding billions of people's constant fear to it may be doing) perk up at this and start to take the charges seriously. They say they are going to send a team of Lanterns to investigate, and Sinestro flies into a rage, attacking Jordan while Kilowog and Tomar-Re rush to his aid. Sinestro, who really is almost as much of a badass as he thinks he is, is kicking all three of their asses, until Jordan starts asking him why he's *afraid* of the truth coming out; why, if his world is so perfect, he's so *scared* to let it speak for itself. Sinestro's resolve cracks, the three Lanterns get him on his heels, and then the Guardians step in and say that Sinestro has proven that he has let Fear rule over his choices and denied the free Will of his people, and thus betrayed the Corps. They sentence him to return to his world, to free the will of his people and redeem himself in the eyes of the Corps.
The last scene shows him brooding in his former palace, with cheering crowds outside tearing down his banners. A vision of Parallax appears to him and tells him that he is right to rule with a fist, that only Fear can bind the universe in perfect order, that he should reclaim what is his. He looks up, his eyes now glowing yellow instead of green, and brings his closed fist in front of his face, now twisted into a Yellow Lantern ring. He recites the Sinestro Corps oath:
"In blackest day, in brightest night,
Beware your fears made into light.
Let all who try to stop what's right
Burn like my power: Sinestro's might!"
Cut to credits.
