  • Okay, I still think you don't /need/ and iPad for med school. BUT I would argue it can make studying more efficient. Is that efficiency worth paying the price of an iPad? It's up to you! But in this video, I go over some scenarios that I found myself when using the ipad during my first year in ASMPH. Hope you guys find this helpful!
    I’m a YL5 (1st year) medical student of Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health in the Philippines. I make videos about my experiences in college (hopefully about med lol), studying for exams, and how I live my life. After all, the best way to study life is to live it. I hope my videos impart some sort of insight that can impact your life even in just a tiny amount. If you enjoy my videos, leave a like, comment, or subscribe. Those go a long way to support me in making the videos.

    Hi Marco!!
    Thanks for your video on why you DON'T need an IPad in med school. You just convinced me of why I DO NEED ONE cuz I'm a visual learner and drawing or annotating with little sketches just imprint the information in my mind. And I get to save cost on coloured pens, highlighters, paper etc.
    I'm a med student in my 4th year. I'm from Nigeria.

      Hey! It's just a blanket term our professors use for other types of requirements (other than exams, quizzes, essays, etc.). Sometimes they'll make us do infographics detailing a certain condition, make a paper for a case analysis, or videos that will show the different steps of organizing a family meeting. Stuff like that!

    Not a med student here( A computer engineer graduate ) but I still bought an iPad for the reason of learning new languages ( Spanish and German ). It is better for me to use different pens and highlighters using Notability and the search engine of it is way SUPERB. I love writing too because it is easier for me to remember things and mapped all the important details.
    All in all, I don't regret buying an Ipad as I think of it as an investment in learning new knowledge. Thank you for sharing your experience !

      Hi Alphonse!
      In my opinion, it's worth it but it can take a lot of time to get used to especially if you're not used to flashcards. I really put my head into it dedicated time to use Anki and so far it's working for me. It's worth trying but if it just doesn't work don't force it.
      I haven't a lot of alternative active learning methods to really recommend but one thing I tried is just simply writing a short summary of a paragraph/section I read from a book.

    I want to buy him an iPad so that he can study for the exam but he is saying that he will get one when he needs it
    I feel like he is saying that for me to save money but I strongly believe that if getting him an iPad will improve his studying for the entrance exam, it will be worth it
    also, high school is online now so it will be worth it even if it’s solely for school work
    what do you think about this issue?

    • @MarcoMallillin
      @MarcoMallillin  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello! Thanks for watching hehe let me try to answer each question, I assume they're separate no?
      1. I think it's fair that your brother turned down the iPad. If he thinks he can live without it right now, that's fine! Personally, I know friends that don't have an ipad but still do better than me in school so it really depends on the student! Maybe you can offer it again after a while (or when there's a sale HAHA)
      2. For high school, it depends with the school. I'm not familiar with other schools but a close relative in high school still has printed modules from their school so ipads aren't as needed. But even if the school is more technology-driven, I would recommend a laptop more because it's just more usable in general.
      I hope I answered your questions! Ask away if you have more hehe

What do you think should I purchase esp. the course that I'll be getting in college is Pharmacy and I love writing lecture notes? Do you think I should just go for the Macbook and just use my writing pad and stylus with it? Thank you lots!

    • @MarcoMallillin
      @MarcoMallillin  Před 2 lety +4

      Hi Cassandra!
      I think the decision will depend on how much you like working far from your desktop! Personally, I never bring my laptop anywhere outside the house as much anymore. I actually made it into a desktop set up because I find that most of what I do, I can do on an iPad already. I write more than I type so for me, the ipad with the apple pencil is a better fit.
      It really depends on what your use case will be so it's hard to say! Haha but since you have a desktop already, maybe an ipad would be better suited for you? Let me know what you think! Haha

      @MarcoMallillin  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello! There’s a lot to unpack but let’s give it a shot! Haha
      1. I think it depends on what you have right now! If you have a laptop already, i think ipad pro 12.9 is a good option. You can go 11 inches or an older model since it’s less expensive. If not, I’d choose the 2nd option! But that’s just my preference of course! Back in college, I only bring my ipad to school and leave my laptop at home Haha
      2. When it comes to disk space, I think 32 gb is enough for note-taking if you regularly clear space for it and you will not use much apps! If there’s a 64 gb option, try to look into it because based on my experience I never go beyond 50gb on my ipad.
      Hope this helps! If you have more questions, let me know!

      I asked my friends and they said that the ipad 8 is just okay for school. The ipad air might be better if you really plan on using the ipad fully.

      Hi Jenny, I just checked and oops! I’m currently at 54Gb but this is at the peak of my current module, which has 4 submodules. After this module, I’ll be clearing it again so it’ll save some space.

      Hello! For me I think it is enough! so far in my 2 years in medical school, I haven't gone beyond 60gb but that is because I organize my files every semester.

      Hi Esther! Usually I back up my files for the sem first then delete them. I only keep files like books and other files for i might need for comprehensive exams.

    Can you suggest good apps for ipad? :)

      @MarcoMallillin  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Christian, is there a specific use you’re looking into? Like editing, journaling, etc?
      On the top of my head, I would vouch for - note-taking: Notability or Goodnotes 5, either is fine really
      - editing: Lightroom and Lumafusion for photos and videos, respectively
      - general productivity: google apps! Our school email has unlimited storage so i have all apps for it on my ipad. Super convenient since it’s super easy to access on both laptop browser and ipad!
