Quick Tip: How to Breed and Raise Wax Worms for Fishing

- Today's quick tip episode will definitely help your wallet. I am myself very money conscious, so I dove in. The steps to breed and raise Wax Worms is so simple - you don't even need anything special. Just find a solid container with a lid, poke a few holes, add a small amount of blended cereal and honey, add some sawdust, and toss in your can of leftover waxies. They only eat once every few months, and when they eat enough they'll turn into moths, which breed on their own and give you an endless supply. Not only can you use them on the ice, but panfish, trout, and even bullhead love them in the spring. Just make sure you tap the lid before opening it so the moths don't fly out and if you want it to look better put them in a 2 or 5 gallon fish tank!

How do you identify wax worm moth eggs in the substrate?
Do you separate the eggs?
2 years old, but for others with this question, you simply add scrunched up wax paper, egg cartons, toilet rolls etc…
When the moths breed and lay eggs, do you know how long it takes for the eggs to hatch? I tried breeding them as a treat for my bearded dragon and it had been like 2 months since all of the moths died and there in no sign on hatching eggs..... Should i chuck everything in the container and start over?
Is there actually eggs in the container? I would think about starting fresh. They don't take long to hatch, mine was about 2 weeks.

Well you would think with all the plastic containers that we buy our food products and our products in that we rely on that we're surrounded in the end of people throw away and then open the landfill polluting the environment you can find or come up with an idea and how to get some containers for free it doesn't have to be anything spectacular you could probably use sealed Rubbermaid tubs or get some buckets from a local bakery or Deli like Walmart deli if you need a clear window in them cut a square out in the top of the lid cuz a lot of those white buckets that they buy their ingredients come in Delhi buckets potato salad coleslaw buckets they throw them away or sell them I buy them Square Deli buckets for trapping very cheap and I use them to put a 220 conibear and imma make bucket Cubbies for Coon trapping but they come with lids and you could cut a square out of the lid and super glue or some kind of epoxy glue a square piece of plastic in them so you could have a window and reuse them over and over be creative also I've got a few of those do you remember the Atomic Fireballs that we used to have his kids in the eighties and nineties I don't know if you're still make them but they came in a big round clear plastic container and the kind of resembles the big round jar that a lot of bars sell pickled gizzards and pickled eggs and they come in a big round jar well these plastic containers are about the size of those jars and they've got oleate on them I've got a half a dozen of those that I've accumulated from back in the day if you find a place selling jawbreakers in one of those containers and ask them to save the containers and to call you and tell them you'll buy them from them I'm sure they won't charge you much they throw them away usually or maybe big mayonnaise jar plastic mayonnaise jars ending plastic I bet you could use glass and you could probably use those pickled egg jars glass would probably work to just drill some holes in the lid L pop bottles would work perfect if they had a bigger led to them a bigger opening but you don't need to go out and search and find the exact container that this guy's using ask your wife to start keeping containers with big Lids in them also what might work is I buy at the grocery store instead of buying full grapefruits I buy the big plastic container of already shucked grapefruit Meats in syrup and they've got a wide mouth lid on them I've got all kinds of those containers or mixed nuts come in a big Square container it probably doesn't have to be as tall as the one this guy's using as long as there's just a little room for them when they hatch you could use 5 gallon buckets that seal off tight so they can't get out and like I said cut a square out of the lid and then cut a square plastic clear plastic off of something and get some Shoe Goo from the shoe department at Walmart blue that plastic window in the top of a 5 gallon bucket and there you've got a huge container with a clear window so you can see what's going on you don't have to open the lid
