How To Correctly Partition Your XBOX One Hard Drive For A Replacement Or Upgrade

- If you've got a faulty XBOX One hard drive, or are upgrading to a 1TB or 2TB drive, here's how to do it. This applies for HDD's, and also for Solid State Hard Drives, the process is the same.
We are using an XBOX One S, but the process is the same for all models. The OSU update procedure for the original XBOX One is slightly different, so see my website if you have the Original model.
I'll talk you through it, STEP BY STEP.

Thanks a lot for this. Was stuck on a e106, e101, e102 loop where I couldn't reset or offline update the console and these steps worked to fix that.

EXCELLENT vid! Thk u! I used a diff method to install an SSD into my One S (don't remember doing the partitioning thing) and I ended up with a LOT of WASTED space (don't know why?). I followed some other guy's video. I *REALLY* like YOUR method because the partitioning software SHOWS YOU that the ENTIRE DRIVE is being utilized! So, ya, gonna use YOUR method this time. Thanks a bunch mate, went from 1TB hard drive to 512GB SSD in my One S, before now I’ve only replaced drives with the same size so sector by sector clone software has been fine but they all recognise each partition as 100% full so it’s impossible to shrink the user content one.

I put in a new 2yb ssd, and is quite annoyed by wasting 145gb as unallocated at the end of the drive. Wondering if there is a way to utilize this space?
I have tried to manually resize partitions to expand the user content but all attempts have resulted with "something went wrong"

Fun fact: instead of right click copying the path, you can click into the path address box and type "cmd" and hit enter, it will open the cmd with the path to that folder
The google drive link on your website doesn't work without requesting access.
I was able to replace the failed hard drive in an xbox one x using this thanks . Just curious cant you just copy the animation file into the A and B folder before running the OSU1 file? Just curious I followed your instructions to the tee and it did work well.

I have upgraded my One X with a 1tb SSD and put the old drive in a enclosure. However, my 1tb seagate HDD is missing exactly 30gigs in windows. Did you ever see something like this when replacing a HDD?

Hello, first of all thank you very much for posting all these videos and share the knowledge. I'm having the E200 error on my xbox one S, and already went through this video but I cannot make it boot properly. It makes the update, without reaching the 100%, I think I saw that around 86% it reboots and stays in the ¨there was an error¨ screen. I would love to have some help on this, since I strongly believe is a software issue. (I tried with two hard disks, the same issue), thanks in advance.

@@platyguy1424 sadly nothing fix it for me. I tried everything I found on the web to reinstall the OS for the Xbox. Tried a few hard disks, tested the hard disks outside and checked they were ok. It was evident the failure was another thing. The xbox is still collecting dust on the shelve. Sorry I can't help. PS: I made myself the idea it could be the DVD reader.
If it's the Blu-ray drive you can swap for a new drive , but make sure you swap the daughter board as this is tied to the motherboard & won't work without it .
If it still doesn't work then a component on the Blu-ray daughter board has failed & needs to be repaired by a experienced tech or it might be cheaper just to replace the whole console .

That’s what I was afraid of. I’ve tried 4 different hdd and ssd’s. I’ve tried putting the update directly into folder A and B, I’ve tried the usb offline update I’ve tried almost everything without replacing the disk drive.

I cloned my xbox 1TB HDD to a 2 TB SSD but its showing the extra TB as “free” space how do i combine it to the rest of the drive?

Hi Paul. Have you formatted the drive first? Make sure you have selected the correct sizes (6:19 in video) Good Luck!

I think that's because my drive is actually 480Go (thought it was 500), so considered as non-standard... Is there any way I can format it to work with my Xbox using this script ?

Hi. Great video but not yet working for me. Having followed the steps (partitioning a new 1TB HDD) (data stick offline update etc) The update fails on the reset `(error 100) The only thing different is that I carried out the steps previously (before I saw your video) without partitioning the new HDD. As I viewed it I thought the partitioning process wiped the HDD. I have tried the off line update a number of times with no positive result. However, I did not format the new HDD before partitioning. Do you think this might be the problem? If so, should it be formatted before partitioning and if so what should it be formatted to? (NFTS?) Do you have any suggestions as to why my HDD replace is failing. Thanks in advance.
I did the same thing and had the same issue. i fixed it by removing all the volumes (partitions) one by one in the disk manager. I can walk you through it if you need.

As an update which may affect you being able to assist: I have returned the new HD I purchased so I only have the original installed Xbox HD. I do have a cradle so I can remove the Xbox HD and plug in to my laptop.

@@ActiveInventories connect the drive you want to use for xbox. open disk management on your computer. scroll down and look on the left side for the name of the drive you want to use. to the right of the drive name, right click each little partition box and selct "delete volume" do this until there are no more to select (it was 5 or 6 for me i think). After that, you computer might not recognize that there is a drive plugged in, this is a good thing. now you can start with the steps in the video.
i have bought a second hand xbox 360 model 2010 black it work good and everything just was little noisy and get warm i changed thermla paste and took away the dust but later i took the hard drive and format it from my computer and from that day the XBOX 360 did not want to recognize the hard drive 250Gb the only way it work is that when i set it external using sata adaptor if you can help me how to fix the problem and make my xbox 360 read the hard drive when its internal not external thank you
I have the same problem. It looks like there is no solution to fix this.
The original Xbox 360 HDDs are paired via serial numbers and a file on them to the console. if you format it on a PC, you've made that drive permanently unusable with any xbox 360. congrats on being dumb enough to ignore every single forum post and tutorial about 360 HDDs warning people NOT to do this... facepalm

Your cable connector from the Xbox to the hard drive is probly faulty it's a known issue for the Xbox One X

I have ssd 256gb but how i can do partition on the app? The app just have 500 gb or 1 tb or 2tb
The xbox can only recognise 500 GB, 1TB or 2TB if its anything under 500gb it won't work and you will have a E100 error when installing the system update when trying to put the 256gb ssd
Unfortunately, when using a 2 TB drive and selecting the c) 2TB option as soon as the OSU1 USB starts its thing it re partitions the drive and only utilizes 1 TB of the 2 TB space roughly 750 Gig for content and 1 TB remaining un used. I have researched many other video and options and I cannot find any help as to why OSU1 does this. I have an XBOX One NOT One S.
I had the same issue and i found that the xbox have minimum size requirement, all you need to fix it are two drives and follow all steps in the video with one drive then connect it to the pc and assign a letter with disk manager, and use xbox hhdmaster with second one (the one you want to use), assign letters to each partition too and copy the data from the first disk into the second one, then delete the letters you had assign and mount it in your xbox, i tried with xbox one fat and s and it worked fine.

Any recently updated Xbox with failed harddrive that can't be recovered, only need to do is install the fresh drive and use the update file.

Go to the system update then the A and B folders, paste it there (you have to paste it on both).

I just found this site. My grandsons xbox one s had the error E200 e102. So, I decide to try the repair that Microsoft recommended, it did nothing. I removed the hard drive at it tested bad. I was going to try that process, but I don't have access to the original file.

You don't. this tutorial along with tons of others on YT is horribly outdated. You put the fresh new SSD into the xbox without prepwork, plug in the OSU1 USB stick, launch into recovery mode, pick the offline system update and it'll do everything on its own (except for the boot logo, which isn't necessary for it to function and will be re-added automatically the next time there's a software update anyway)
Hey yall, you don't have to do any of this. I literally just put a regular hard drive that had files on it, went into safe mode and it formatted the hard drive itself. And it's a 1TB. The only procedure you need to follow is the OSU steps if anything.

You may have found your solution 2 months later but is there anything downloaded on there? Like did you use that same hard drive for something else and not wiped the whole thing?
@@joeypicard6169 nope....it's actually just under 1tb hard drive SSD...but when I inserted it and followed the instructions it cam back as a 500gig....yes I checked on PC it was nearly a 1tb
@@robton007 most sure you partitioned that as a 500gb with the scripts. The scripts ask you to choose out from three options: 500gb, 1tb and 2tb. If you have a windows computer, you can connect the disk and 'expand' the partition. I don't know exactly which one, but you may have that option. If not, you can go full brute force, and re do this video tutorial making sure to choose the correct partitioning schema. Good luck!
@@leonardobrambilla9850 nope I got it right,think it may of been the brand of hard drive perhaps....but it wasn't a full 1tb when purchased,I think it came in at 960

You need to go back and watch the video again my friend. Make sure youve put the xbox files onto your C drive first, and copy the win link as described. Follow the steps slowly and carefully

I had done all the steps before and then the drive pretty much sh*t itself and won't work no more... 2 days later I decided i was gonna try and reformat it and well... My whole f*cking pc went black screen right as I plugged it in my pc and I've tried everything to get it to work..
Your thumbnail at this shows a non standard ssd at 250 gb ... making people think this is the non standard script steps, but your tutorial is for the standard steps, misleading video.
