How medal event is judged:
Head to head, 8-person competition in bracketed "battle-style” format.
The 120 second countdown clock begins as the first athlete attempts their trick. Athletes can stop their 120 second clock after they complete a trick/combination of tricks (or miss) by raising their hand, at which point the other competing athlete then attempts their trick/combination of tricks and their 120 second clock begins. Thanks for watching #XGames! - Sport
Such a privilege to get to watch these guys killing it. Flatland is just so extremely technical and cool to the point it just utterly fries my brain. Nothing but mad respect for these guys.
GOOD GOD how is this not more popular?? some of the most mind-boggling performances in all of sport, period.
Look at the London and New York rideouts, SE bikes and the big wheelie bike/bmx scene ... Its still happening
Boring af
with all due respect, why are all the riders just Figure Skating out there?
@@strikingmachine2975 to be fair it's more like figure skating while erecting scaffolding, which would be undeniably quite impressive
@@k-v-d1795 go play videogames kid.
Katagiri's first run was perfect...I dont see anyway anyone could ever top that. It was poetry in motion, he may as well have been a ballerina with the bike as his partner. To think hes doing this at 18 yrs old blows my mind
Im glad the commentators were able to name one or two tricks
hahahah and its frigin scotty cranmer
They should of had Terry Adams and Scott O’Brian do the commentary.
😂
A nice spin there
Youd need the micro machine dude to keep up with whats going on.
Tried doing flatland 20 years ago. Its incredibly difficult. The balance and precision needed is otherworldly.
Katagiri was pretty much dancing with his bike, sick skills.
💯
First time I’ve actually watched flatland xgames, might be one of my favorite BMX events now, amazing to watch
They Brought Back the BMX Flatland to the X Games let’s Goooo!!!🔥🔥🔥
Man I missed flatland as a teenager in the 80’s I lived the beginnings of all freestyle bmx I loved street but spent most evenings on the street in front of my house riding and perfecting flatland tricks imitating R.L. Osbourne and Mike Buff for hours and hours. I’m 54 now and Dennis McCoy was my idol growing up in fact I still have my 1985 Haro Master and still ride it
Cool to hear Scotty commentating nice hearing it from a guy that knows what he is actually talking about
In this case Scotty actually does not know what he's talking about because he doesn't know much about Flatland as he's said himself multiple times on his channel before. But he made the best out of it.
David beckham was wild
Flatland always blows my mind because the balance and control these guys have is amazing.
It's so amazing the flow and connection between the rider and the bike, looks like a dance.
I've missed watching BMX flatland for so many years. Loved this. Thank you!
this has to be one of the most difficult events to judge. everything is so mindblowingly impossible it’s hard to say that one of them should lose
Yu Katagiri is next level! 😂🔥
fact
Yu is in a Katagiri of his own ❤️
Insane skills he got!
I was looking for a comment about that, insane transitions literally had to watch again and slow down speed
Yea man that last line was absolutely insane
this is so great. i am over 50 and i make flatland videos also. i do early 80s flatland stuff.
So stoked to hear Scotty’s voice over this!!
I'm not!
Neither, couldn’t comment a sing flow, trick or difficulty. Imagine training on the top level to have the commentary team not understand the language 😢
Scotty's a nice guy and all that, I just don't understand why you'd have a football guy announce a tennis match.
@@golddigger4306 NOT EVEN A SING FLOW??
Flatland must be the most technical, awe inspiring bmx contest ive ever seen. Katagiri truly earned the gold, the tricks he pulled out were next level. I would dare to say superhuman! :D Way to go
I think he lost to Dandois tbh but that’s me
Love that flatland is back. Scotty a little out of his element, but still brought great vibes lol.
Did it go somewhere?
Amazin Fn Trick With the backward and upside down and flippin it back up, SICK...
Dandois was doing some tricks I’ve never seen him do before. 👌 And Yu is not from this planet. 🥴
We don't live on a 1000mph spinning ball flying around the sun at 66,670mph while blasting thru space at ridiculous speeds of over 500,000mph.
There is absolutely no curvature.
Mass bodies of water always finds its level. Is why it's called sea level and not sea curve.
P1000 cameras zooming in on boats that supposedly disappeared behind the curvature back into full view.
Pilots never have to dip the nose of their plane down to account for curvature.
Sun and moon are alot smaller and local under the firmament with us. Not penetrating light and heat from 93 million miles away penetrating light and heat from endless space.
We've purposely been indoctrinated by these parasitic elite think it's funny that they can brainwash us.
Eric Dubay on CZcams destroying these ball earth priest. Check it out for yourself. Your common sense will take over. You will ask yourself how the Fck did I call for this dumb shite.. 🙈🙉🙊🕵🤔😂👍
Some of the best flatland i have ever seen 😮😮😮 I’ve got so much respect for these super powers that these athletes hold its a blessing 🙏
Kevin jones paved the way!!!! do your home work!!!!
Awesome to see a Dutchy competing in this. Well done Sietse, that no hander combo looked sick!
So glad flatland is back!!! Was always my favorite to watch, even though I was a skater not bmx. Just crazy to watch!
Amazing to watch. Some incredible tricks and balance. Great competition this year.
Easily my favorite competition. So glad it's back. 💜
Nothing but mad respect for these guys
Katagiri extremamente superior 😱
Com 18 anos kskskkskss
This blows my mind that people are able to do with those bikes.. respect wish I could do it
I never watched a full flatland comp before but with Scotty Cranmer announcing time just flew by.. I swear this was a 10 min video
The bike flip reminds me of the first attempts at the motorcycle backflip...
Great performance from everyone!
katagiri is insane bruh
im speachless, its insane how they are so good
When did David Beckham start bmx?
Wkwkwkw
We need Effraim Catlow on the mic for this event. He has deep knowledge of specific switches the riders do, how long they've been doing them, etc.
he is a judge most big events not sure if he judged this one
PREVOST IS NEXT LEVEL
Katagiri is. 😎
Jumelin looks like a singer in boy band from the 90’s.
He definitely has some Duran Duran hair going on. Lol
David beckham vibes
or George Michael from *WHAM!*
That is the representation of old school, I grew up watching his skills, one of my favorites along with Martti Kuoppa.
I believe he'd be better off with some smaller pants
Incredible flat land bmx, 🤯🤯🤯the celebration at the end was the best😂😂😂
Gotta love how even Scotty has no clue about the names of even a single trick these guys are doing😂
Cada dia quedo más asombrado esto son los legendarios.❤
When Katagiri Flooped the Pig I pooped'em. That was incredible! 22:22 He just stomps the pedals so clearly.
i like the breakdancebattleflair this kind of comp bring. i would love to see points in the end so we see quarters and half finals. astonishing talents anyways on display...found myself clapping in front of the computer haha
Flat's going strong these days! 🙌
Well deserved W!! So good
UCHINO WAS AMAZING 🎉bravo Guys 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Jumelin looks just like David Beckham
Katagiri, though! 😮 18?! I've been trying tricks on BMX for years. I'm 32. That's way beyond me! Very impressive!
He’s insane.
Huh? 😅😅😅 I wouldn’t even know how to begin to learn one of the tricks. This is beyond human level 🤦🏾♂️
Straight up AMAZING!
Super power level,Flatland is amazing !!
hes so clean with it!
I feel like Prevost is the soul surfer, and Katagiri is the young technical phenom. Prevost fought the good fight with his flow and bold moves, but in the end passed the torch to the more efficient Katagiri, spinning like a top and flipping the bike to and fro.
This, of course, is the only flatland BMX video I have ever seen.
All of these guys definitely have their own style. Shout out to the tricks that don't look hard but are super hard, if Uchino had pulled off that combo at 5:57 back into a reverse manual that would have been so sick. But Katagiri was insane, no doubt; he was so fluid in everything and definitely deserved Gold!
Bicycle Ballet is so sick
Great crowd and atmosphere!
This doesn't seem possible lol the skill insane
Flatland has been around since the 80s
BMX Flatland ❤ auf die 1
This is a works of genius
True Flat!
Respect!
Crowd going wild
Sasaki and Kataguiri that was my favorite heat. Shame they both couldn't advance and I love that Sasaki showed true sportsmanship at the end when he wasn't advancing.
insane! too bad dandois and katagiri had to face each other in the semi!
Insane! BMX ballet
This was ok and all, but… I kind of miss the diverse style that smooth Simon Obrien, Matt Wilhelm (king of spin), Terry Adams with his insane aerial switches, Waldemar Fatkin, Justin Miller, Martti Kuoppa, the long rolling tricks; whiplashes, undertakers, jugglers, hiker kickflips, turbine cliff hangers, time machines, deathtrucks, I could go on..
Even if these commentators knew any names of some of these tricks, it would be over before they mentioned them.
It’s seems to have (d)evolved into just pumping a steamroller into another spinny transition where you keep circling the drain (so to speak) and push enough energy into it to get yourself back out.
There are a few times where I was wrong and the trick could actually be held.
No full hate here, just there’s heaps of area to ride.. why ride on a dime?
I wonder how often these riders end up bending their rims. That was some sick riding!
Not that often!
The axle is usually what will bend.
Love watching this , however could someone please explain why they don’t have brakes on the bike? I’m curious as to what changed in this style
So good to see dub at the x games
Katagiri killed it
When i rode i always had a dream of combining street and flatland together. Flat is So much more interesting than Park to me, despite the major skill levels, it just leaves me cold.
Cool to see that they set it up somewhat like breaking. Stylistically, that makes sense.
Great commentary!
Incroyable 🤩🔥
Esse e o meu espote favorita . Parabens pelo campionato
Katagiri awesome 😎
Jumelin look like david beckham in flatland
You can trace everything done here all the way back to Kevin Jones in the ‘80’s.
no sht
I remember the 98 xgames flatland. I actually video taped it.. and watched it all the time over the years before vhs went extinct. Trevor was unbelievable, the machine!
Man I was just thinking the same thing like what happened to this sport though like there's no one watching this back when Trevor Meyer was there geez it was packed
Yep I remember Trevor from the 97&98 X games. People didn’t like the guy (they said he stole Chase G’s style) but man he was sooo good in competitions.
I think the last year flatland was in the X games was like 2000/2001
Front Bri/Inward Bri is correct. Fantastic job on commentary, Scotty. LETS GO RWILLY!!! FOR THE SCOOTS BRO!!!🤘🛴🥇
I remember before 20 years When I Was doing flat but now the things is very crazy
That is why I prefer designing my own bykes
Dat Boi cold look like Travis Barker on tha Drums .From Canda that's he ride
David beckham multitalent
Dandois is a master piece in all this competition, he killed it from the beginning, I even feel that the 18yr old k was just being favoured for he has been great too but not to dandois level
Awesomeness’s 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🔥🔥🔥🔥
Love it.
The person controlling the timer.... Just one example taking over 3 seconds to stop the clock is an ETERNITY for people with even basic reaction time.
Was thinking this myself some of them start late into the trick and others cutting it off seconds later almost like it was a Japanese person on the timer favouring their own country to win
YU🎯
So cool. These guys are way better than i was at that age. and so many good riders. It would have been so cool if all these guys went street riding together after the contest
awesome
Bravooo olé olé
Wowsers there's like nobody there for a xgames competition
I was exactly the 1.7k like! I never seen the like number change before!!!
19:02
WTH!! HOW!!
Esta en decadencia el flatland...salvo algo de Japón..parece un competencia de hace 10 años
Scotty loves the flat land!
Only disagreement I had was Uchino won that first heat. He was just so much more smoother and I think he did higher difficulty tricks.
If you don't watch anything else in this video at least watch @26:00
Yo vote porque regresará el evento de patinaje agresivo :(
I don’t know if brakeless has improved this sport. A lot of other riding it improved but with flatland I see guys getting too much speed built up. I feel like it made the flow worse for a lot of tricks. It’s gotta be way harder though, I’ll give ‘em that.
Nah. Breakless is the only way to go with flatland imo. It shows true balance
