Track record equalling performance by The Viceroy, which stands to this day (Thornbird with Glenmore Mayhew established it in 1984). The crop of 3yos that year were very good, several of whom are present here: Khadullah (Trevor Simpson), Regent Gold (Winston "Chronicle" Wilson, who sadly died in a vehicular accident a year later), Throne Circle (Colin Maragh) and Rad Racer who finished fourth in the colts and geldings Guineas to the previously mentioned trio in that order. The fillies Distinctly Native (Derby and Guineas winner and Superstakes runner up to The Viceroy) and Milford Sound (Guineas runner up who turned the tables on Distinctly Native in the Oaks and finished a creditable third in the Derby) complement how good a crop we had that year!!! Rohan, see if you can find the Harry Jackson for that year when Quiet Riot (James Long) and Ramacon with Slicer had to gang up on The Viceroy (Fanna) in order to slay him. Trevor Simpson was at his very best that day!!!. Please find that race bro... Boxing Day thriller!!!

This was the first clash with the viceroy and Khadullah and it took a track record to be the great Khadullah. This race was run a few weeks after Khadullah ran 14 furlongs to beat Distinctly Native. He lost no marks in defeat at A1 for the first time. The grey runaway train vs Regent Gold is the race I want to see. Thanks again Rohan....

The Viceroy also Trash Khadullah again in the 1991 rematch,I wouldnt say it take a"track record" because the Viceroy won by almost 5 lengths .he could have won by a neck and it wouldn't be a track record

@Elvis Shields....I stand corrected but I think Campinies was abourd PoorLittleRichGirl and not The Viceroy in that particular match up that you described. Campinies lost his whip at the furlong pole and proceeded to use his hand as a whip to win the race by a short head over Khadulla. Really epic race.
This doesn't seem right, unless he wasn't racing that many times per year for those three seasons, because Saint Cecelia and War Zone have the 1st and 2nd longest streaks ever at 13 and 12 consecutive, respectively. Hard to believe that in his 2, 3, and 4 year old seasons he wouldn't have had the record if he never lost in those years. Maybe he was lightly raced?

But someone in another comment (Troy Mclean) said "undefeated at 2 and 3", which makes more sense, and Kenlar has since redacted it to that also, so it makes more sense now.
Good memories. The Viceroy with only 112 pounds (Narry riding vs. Fanna) winning this one in TR equaling time. Overall, there were better quality of horses back then. Can someone verify - but I don’t believe there have been any track records set since 2006, which means that there was none during the 2010 - 2019 decade. 🤔
Only on the straight five course... Flying Tiger broke Eros' record, then Ministerofjustice and Musical Maestro would lower Flying Tiger's as well. It's a VERY unique distance/course though because, as you would know, Eros is leagues above those horses!!!

To say it quite bluntly, at the handicaps - Khadullah, should've been much closer or ahead at the finish given the rider's vast credentials and experience up to that time. It is questionable efforts like this one that causes jockeys to sometimes fall into DISFAVOR with owners and trainers the like.
