    Nest was a good company. Google is not. Any time a good company is bought out by a big company the customer service and development is killed. The first thing Google did was to put a call center full of Mexicans in operation for Nest support. You can't even understand them on the phones. My Nest cameras now black out if a zone is triggered so they actually go black if anyone comes close to them. I installed my Nest doorbell and the first person to walk onto the porch was the UPS delivery driver... walked up to the porch, put the package down and walked away. No notification and I looked at the video and it was blacked out from the time she entered my walkway until her truck was gone. This is the same behavior that a box thief would display. But companies like Google and Apple don't care about customer service any more... only cranking out new hardware and increasing revenue any way they can... and customer service is not in that formula. Finally, installed the Nest doorbell and my inside chime doesn't work any more. They don't tell you about the transformer and what you have to do with that to get everything to work. When Nest was good you could call them and get an American voice and you'd be off the phone in 20 minutes at the most. I won't call Google customer service again and struggle trying to understand a Mexican on their phones.... But check your bandwidth/internet speeds... one of the first things to be cut out with low bandwidth is the audio.

    • @vdubluv222
      @vdubluv222  Před 3 lety

      I had good customer service fortunately. This was right around the time they sold. I worked with their techs (I also had been in the I.T. feild for 12 years at the time of this video). I have the Google mesh network and have excellent bandwidth at every corner of my property. One access point within 20' of those cameras...
      Plain and simple they just do not preform as I was expecting. Luckily I received a full refund on the hardware and a pro-rated refund on the subscription.

    ~ Unfortunately, I purchased my two cameras before you made this video but I am encountering the same issues as you.
    At one point I had to get a booster unit for my furthest camera from my internet server.
    I talked to NEST support about my audio not being in real time and they only told me that the reason was my internet wifi, not their camera yet I have the fasted/strongest internet in my area.
    Also, I have yet been able to download the footage to my laptop but I suspect that may have something to do with my Samsung phone and not the NEST software.
    PS - Love all your cars! I'm north of you in B.C. and I have a '65 Bus. 😎🤙🏻

  • @WilliamDeansPlumbingVentura

    I agree the audio is rather low, but still usable if it's the doorbell that sits much lower down to the other party's ear. That said, it's constant recording is what makes this next camera really shine. I had an odd exchange at my front door that went on for several minutes, and later found all of the exchange captured by the nest, whereas my other security camera (with a loudspeaker) only recorded it's 40 second time buffer.

    Go into the app and adjust the volume to maximum. Also that speaker is probably what...about half inch in diameter inside the housing? If you're thinking you should be able to scare off burglars by yelling at them as soon as they step across your property line then you're expecting too much. My cam is on my front porch and people at my door hear me just fine. I'm a trucker and I talk to my daughter and to my dogs from 2000 miles away and they hear me fine. The dogs reactions are hilarious. And I get an alert every time someone opens the gate to my privacy fence coming in and walking out my front door when leaving. I changed the alert beeps to "Intruder Alert!" from Star Trek. You can change the sounds to any sound you can find on the internet. Works great for my backyard too. Automatic night vision. All data saved to the cloud. Can mirror/cast onto my tv. Can post video clips to social media. Idk if u still monitor responses here or if u already sold the cams, but I watched a bunch of install vids last nite including urs in preparation for my own install today. I can tell u out of the box my 2 cams audio and video work fine with a small caveat. Once install is complete adjust microphone to 85-100% in settings. Get a 2nd person to help with next part. One of u stand at camera and the other take phone or tablet to a distant location. The person who has the phone can open the App and pull up a feed. Once it is streaming you shud hear clear noise thru ur device. Press the “talk” button and then speak. When finished speaking, disengage “talk” and wait a few secs. to hear the other persons response (if u leave “talk” engaged u will NOT hear the response). There is lag time; phone-style conversations don’t appear possible. But my wife and I clearly spoke to and heard one another with a 3-5 second lag time. When I pull up feeds I can clearly hear neighborhood noises picked up by the mic. And when I stood under a cam, cud hear my wife talking quite clearly through the cam speaker. For what it’s worth this is my experience. Also starting in early 2020, Nest says they will offer 2 pricing tiers covering all equipment so no more fee for each piece. Either $60 or $120 per year depending what tier u want.

I am getting one picking it up tomorrow and stick it up at the back door because we have issues with homeless, drunk and drug users running around our car space so I have had to install Cameras into the car park under our unit and it's helped one they knew about them being there etc. But alas issues with lazy postal drivers not delivering the package or knocking so damn softly you cannot hear them even though there is a sign saying "Delivery Drivers Knock Hard Please" yet they still DON'T DO IT!!!!
