Thank you so much for this review. I've had these cameras for about a week and was starting to regret the purchase because I couldn't find how to do half of what you showed. Now I'm good! 😂Thanks!
Absolutely love the in depth look a the app. Thats a real value to show
Awesome review, thanks! Is it possible for motion detection notifications to include a picture snapshot? It used to be possible with older models.
This was very informative. Does this camera allow the option to set timer when to record during certain hours ? I was not able to find this option on the app. I have blink cameras and that option is available.
UPDATE: Battery Lift
Oct. 2: unplugged
Oct 30: Batter at 90% after 28 days with around 1-2 events per day. It says it will last 90 days.
Feb 7th: battery depleted
Lasted around 4 months on medium usage.
Hi Brett, great video. Just a heads up that if you go into the camera settings under Device information and click on Camera Mounts. There is an option to change it to other mounts and what this will do is allow the camera to continue recording when it is removed from the magnetic mount.
@@leenash2k9 Great find, thanks for pointing that out.
Will be very interested in what the battery life is like
Ahhh this is really great info. Love you covered the app and settings since that's all new and many of us are coming from the nest app
Another use case: I set up one of these indoors to see my pets when I'm not at home, with around 20 or 30 short events recorded each day the battery only lasts a week.
Thanks for this review very helpful , the thing im disappointed about with this is no sound notifications , but apart from that very happy
This was helpful. I like the level of detail you’re putting out here.
Ok
Ok😂
Ok
Thanks for this run-through. Very helpful.
❤ love the fully stacked starship wallpaper on your phone !!! Made me smile as I am also a huge spacex fan !
So glad we were able to see it happen again this week! I need to update it now.
Hi, does the cam make annoucements to your nest hub when it detects movement or only to the google app?
Very helpful video. I have 2 in the backyard. I have tried to set up Emergency calling, but unable to? I have paid subscription, and sound detection turned on? I would really like that feature .
Please compare the quality of the two new generation cameras available the indoor/outdoor battery and wire vs the indoor wired only. Which one of these cameras are superior structure and function. In other words, inside the home or partially outside like a cold unheated garage which of the two options is a better functioning camera. Moreover, the one you reviewed is about 1& 1/2 times the price and am asking if it is well worth it. Thank you. John. I compliment you as very good speaker.
This video is great! Thank you for going detail by detail. It's precisely what I was loooking for! You practically sold it to me
All 47 steps? Why is it so fuckiny tedious.
@@joshuasprinkles3490 Sorry, I have no idea what you're talking about 🤔
Excellent review! Thanks for sharing.
Can you add the old nest outdoor and outdoor IQ to the home app or do you have to use the old nest app?
Amazingly great review, thank you so much - your review got a sale of the camera (and the charging cable) thanks again!!!
Great video and information. Moving away from my Arlo systems as they are changing the system use, plus I want something that on one type of platform. Anyway, trying the Google Nest battery this week to see how it does before I consider buying one more. This would downgrade me from 5 cameras to just 2. So thanks for sharing all the great info..
Excellent video! Very informative 👏
Hi Brett
Maybe i missed it in the video, but you tell that the 10 day history only works when plugged in, how much history does it have when not plugged in if i have the nest aware?
What about the battery here one month further then you oktober 30. update with 90%?
Thanks for a great video :-)
Best Dave
Hi, great video but i have a question for you, The NEST AWARE PLUS PLAN, Is it on going or do you have to re register it every year?
Thanks
Great video, Brett! My front door Nest Hello always stays on live, while my backyard Nest Battery Camera switches to idle pretty fast. I don't mind having to switch it to live when opening it, but is there a way to keep it live (like the front door)?
Yes you would need to purchase the outdoor power cable from Google and run it to a power outlet.
You have to plug it in to power 24/7.
Very good informative video! Just have a quick question. Are you able to batch download the recordings? Like download a day worth or even a week worth of videos at once?
Right now it only gives the option to download one at a time.
Thank you so much for this educational video. Very helpful…👍👍👍
Thorough and thoroughly useful! Ty! 🙂
Awesome Review! I just bought the 3 pac Costco on sale for $310.00 needed this over view. 👊🏽
Just installed mine yesterday. Great product. I have a few issues, that I get too many alerts. Especially when I'm out doing things. I don't need to get an alert when it seems me doing things in the yard. Facial learning would be best to use in this instance and NOT give an alert when it seems someone it knows? But the opposite is only possible. Also, how about an alarm feature that if someone steals it off the mount, it sounds an alarm?
I read that if you use the Wasserstein (sp?) mounts, they will replace them if they're stolen.
Go into your cam settings and turn off notifications lol then turn it back on after you're done with yard work
Thank you! This was very informative. I suppose there are only things that worry or make question it: one, someone being able to steal the camera to which you said there is a third party lock accessory. Two, how hard would someone have to tug or pull on the camera cord to dislodge it from the camera. And three, the blinking light but I suppose one can cover it with a black dot sticker so that people won’t know when you are viewing live. I would like to get your take on the Amazon Ring outdoor wireless and wired camera. Thinking of switching to Google because Ring does not offer Solar Panel Extension cords that are like the Nest wired cord length. What am I going to do with 9ft haha!
As someone that has to sell these for work, i appreciate the in depth review
It is surprising how little info is there is about actually owning the device other than a bunch of online articles. This is my supplement to those to make sure every who owns one knows what to do with it
Ok
Ok❤😂🎉😢😮😅
I have 8 nest cameras now (gen 1) I want to add more cameras. I hear a lot of bad things about the gen 2 only working on Google home. Is there any other camera that has good quality with 24/7 recording with a smooth app
Nice video. Can this camera's feed be viewed away from the home through cellular network???
How will the battery/camera fare in a cold climate, with temperatures at negative double digits Celsius?
This may sound like a dumb question, but can you use the cam to trigger routines for turning lights on? I mean using the home app and some Philips hue, govee and Wyze smart lights?
From the quick web search I did, no. You can't even use IFTT as a work around. Google Google Google, come on... smart home time now... Make your products ultra compelling please.
Wow nice and great review as always.👍
I notice you have multiple brands of cameras, from Arlo, Kasa and Nest. Which do you think is best?
Very helpful. Thanks
What was going across your yard near the sidewalk in the night video? Looks to be walking left to right starting by the planter.
Anyone know how to set an object detection automation for paramedics or firemen? Like there was a recent fire in a building next to me and if the door were open seconds earlier someone's life could've been saved. I'm really interested in setting this up ASAP
For email notifications, is a subscription required with nest aware?
GREAT REVIEW THANK YOU SO MUCH !
Do you know if there’s a way to turn differences lights on the house when the nest cam detects a person at night?
Excellent review, thanks. Is there a limit to the number of cameras you can have on subscription?
Sorry, that's been asked and answered.😊
Very well explained 👍👍👍
Great vid. Thanks! What's the benefit of having 60 days of recording history?
Is there a case that can go around it to prevent it from falling?
Best video explaining everything - what is the part number for the electric cable for constant power supply ?
It is the 10m cable found here: amzn.to/3LWJopY (affiliate)
I'm still confused about the part where the power cord is required. I already have Nest Aware for other cameras and simply will add this one to the account. Will or will not this camera provide Nest Aware video history access if not plugged in?
That is correct. Having it plugged in is the only way to get the 10 day 24/7 history. Other than that you we only have saved events for whichever Nest Aware plan you have.
If this is being mounted Outdoors, but very close to an electrical outlet, can I just use the cord that comes with it??? And can it be hung from a ceiling? Looking forward to hearing how long does the battery last and how do I charge it.
The cord it comes with is not marked as weather resistant. But if you have a way to cover it, probably it’ll work. The thing is that cord has one USB type A end, so you need to plug it to a power brick or an outlet with USB port, which is much more complicated to make it weather resistant.
Hi Brett great video. Can you say hey Google to the camera and the command work? I would like an outdoor Google home.
It does not have Google Assistant built into it. The best option I have seen is a battery powered weather resistant Assistant Speaker.
Can you set pre determined times of when to record and when not to record? For example we will have one caamera in our living room. But with us always there I don't need it recording us and giving me a notification every second. More so I want it to start doing all those things let's say when we leave the house
Is there an option for the camera to record video on a NAS?
Great video! Would like to see how you connected it via wire if you did end up going that route.

E
Do you have to buy the separate cord to wire the camera or can you use the charging cable that comes with it?
If you are using it indoors, you can use the cable it comes with. It is just not rated for outdoor use.
Can you make it solar powered? I might have missed it, but how does it compare to ring cameras?
Wasserstein makes them

excellent review!
When and if i need a pacemaker. I want to have a see through window and led lights.
I like how the skunk 🦨 just creeped on by as we all watched the cat. Lol
Great video! How do I get and share Google Nest Cam live video link ?!
Can you still do 24/7 live streaming while outside using "cellular" signal instead of wifi at home ?
I've had two of these cameras since launch and I've been impressed with the cameras but the Google Home app with is awful compared to the Nest app. I have both my Nest Cam Battery units hardwired with the 10M Nest Power Cable. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a simple solution if you have the Google eco system. Wyze Cam V3 also is another option that is a lot cheaper if cost is an issue.
I have a Wyze cam V2 I just put in my window and turn off the night vision because of reflection. My driveway is lit up with a street light anyway and it is perfect during the day. So it is hard to justify $190 for the nest cam.
I don't understand why Google does not have one dedicated app. Still to the Nest app.
@@markwalters1584 You don't have 24/7 CVR (scrollable video history up to 30 days), incredible night vision, 2k/4k video, face detection, package detection, clip creation, time lapse creation, zone creation, smoke alarm and siren sound notifications, dog, glass breaking and child crying detection and notifications, E-911 etc etc. I can type for another 2 minutes but will stop there.
Wyze is not in the same stratosphere of smart cameras such as Nest/Google. Wyze is for people who want nothing but slightly ok, semi-grainy video feeds with alerts and local SD card recording. I own every Wyze camera and use them as door stops and cube toys for my kid. Their Microphones are like listening under water or mud. That's what you get for $30.
I'm considering getting this, but not being able to integrate it with my other nest cams in the nest app is disappointing. Also, what's the point of getting a battery-powered camera and then hardwiring it? Wouldn't it make sense to get the wired one, then it can also work in the nest app?
@@iposttvshows Nest cams that were wired are discontinued and sold off cheap before the battery model came out. Also the power cord setup on the new camera is way easier to run. The Nest app itself will be shutdown in the near future and everyone will have to use the Google Home app regardless of what Google Nest products they have.
Hi, for a drywall application, can the power cord be dropped inside the wall when installing an outdoor camera so as not to show the cable on the inside wall?
of course.
Good review but it sucks that it isn't compatible with the Nest app
Awesome review!
Does anybody know how long it stays with battery before charging it again? Blue light means charging ? Green when fully charged?
How long is the cord for the adapter?
Does this work with the original Nest Aware plan? Can you view it from a desktop browser?
Thanks for giving measurements in imperial and metric.
Can the cameras be connected to 2 nest hubs at the same time? For instance 1 hub in the living room and another in the bedroom to alert me after I go to bed. Thanks!
With the same account logged into both, yes
Can you view your Google battery camera on your phone when not at home. I have installed one and it does not let me stream remotely through the Google home app like my older nest is cameras on the nest app?
Arу you able to pull up the Wyze and Tp-Link Camera feeds on the Nest hub?
So is the cord only for charging the battery it does not need to be hooked up all the time?
Can the video be viewed on a monitor while at home like the other surveillance systems or is the only way to view it on the phone
Awesome, just picked one up...
Great review.
Do you have notifications enabled or disabled? I wish I could disable notifications for familiar faces. Because of this, I turned off al notifications and just occasionally open the app. Curious what you do.
😁😁😀😀 Good job Brett!
Thanks Brian! I can't wait to try out the other new cameras!
I have a question how many cams can you hook up to this app and if the power goes out or the internet is no longer available, will it reconnect on its own ? Will it notify me and let me know that the internet is not available?
Great Review!
Seems pretty pricey for everything that you would really want/need! Does this have a microphone or speaker?
It has a microphone and speaker.
@@endlesschild5469 how do you use the speaker?
nice review
How do you charge or replace the battery?
Your vids are awesome!
Can you do a Multiview of all camera on the Nest Hub?
noob question here. How do you properly install this onto vinyl siding? I find the camera quite heavy. Won't the vinyl siding deform from the mounted weight? (once again... noob question. I want to install mine on vinyl siding, but I'm scared of what would happen). Thanks!
I’m in the same boat. What did you end up doing?
@@verab79 I ended up getting a longer charge cable and routing the camera to a different location
@@reikasdad thanks for the quick reply! I’ll probably try do the same, maybe under the overhangs.
You covered 99% of all my questions. Great video. My last remaining one is bandwidth usage.
Need help I had an accident but luckily one of the stores had a nest camera. The store camera only show intervals of like 2 mins of footage. He had footage of before and after but didn’t have footage of my accident which I found very suspicious. I have two questions first . Why does the nest camera stop recording and 2nd question is there any way he could download or be able to view footage when the nest camera stop recording ?
Can you still view this camera via the Nest app?
Just bought this on Black Friday, as your video stated, need to use the google app vs nest to set up, but I have not migrated my nest account to google. If I migrate the account, do I lose my options on nest app for other nest devices? For ex nest protect smoke detector, nest door bell 1st gen, nest thermostat
Great question. When you migrate everything will still function as it functions now in the Nest app. The benefit of migrating is that you will then be able to view the Nest cameras in the Google Home app. The timeline, notifications and Nest Protect will still only be available through the Nest app. The new Nest Cam Battery will still only have access in the Google Home app.
@@TechWithBrett thank you!
Can you please check how well you can see licence plates please
How do you rate this one vs Arlo cameras
Hi Brett, is the cool down period between notifications really 5 minutes?
I tested mine, it’s 2 mins
@@dathoang5037 Thanks Dat, so in other words, if an event is triggered, a potential intruder has a 120 second window of invisibility, that's a lot of time. I think Google needs to address this. 5 to 15 seconds is more practical, like with Eufy or ring cameras. I hope this can be corrected with a software update.
Thank you!!
Is there a way I can watch the camera on a tv? If so plz explain
I wish it had a way to see 15 seconds forward and back. Sometimes is captures an event but if someone moves fast I do not see the whole event. With the Nest app i can get down to the second on any event. That's why I will not migrate my other camera to Google home.
I have the power cable hooked up and I still don't see the 24/7 recording, and the Google Home app doesn't seem to be able to acknowledge whether or not it's hooked up to the 10M power cable. My only real indicator is the the battery remains at 99 percent.
Your video is very informative. … However, my camera seemed to work okay until the dreaded Google Nest migration. Now I pay $120 per year for a spinning error and non-video frozen images. I’ve spent countless hours of rigorous troubleshooting the issue for several months with Google Nest agents. The physical connection, WiFi connection, router are all fine. The camera works on my computer, but not on my iPhone or iPad where I need it most often. … According to the last agent, it was narrowed-down to an app issue. … They really need to fix this.
I’m having the same exact issue. What’s the point of these if I can’t view live feed on my phone or ipad where I need them the most.
Also did you ever fix yours ?
When you have multiple cameras can you monitor them live at the same time? And if so, can you have audio for both going at the same time too? Looking to have two cameras in two separate parts of our home so that our kids can call out and get our attention if needed.
You can view them from your phone or the web or a tablet. I believe you can only have audio from once going at a time. I'll have to test that.
If you could that would be amazing as I have heard you can! Let me know 😊
Thanks helps lot
Can you have your cameras set up at home and keep a nest hub display at work and still connect to your home feed?
Yes you can as long as you hub is connected to the same account.
I'm wondering if that magnet will hold the camera when the yearly 120kph wind gust storm is happening.. I think it's a stupid design choice. Risking a 200 euro camera over the laziness of not putting a screw in it. And all my current Nest cameras are in the Nest app... together with the thermostat and all the Nest protects. Do they expect me to transfer everything to the Google Home app or something? Or do they want me to switch between 2 apps continuously?
Can it be used with a solar panel ??
