Google Nest Cam Battery VS Eufy SoloCam E40 - Which ONE is Better?

  • Today, we are going to compare the newly released Nest Cam Battery and the also new Eufy SoloCam E40. We will see if the 3 year hiatus of Nest makes them still a contender on a highly competitive wireless battery power WIFI camera segment of home security. This video will focus on video and audio quality and the camera's performance as I run them in a battery of tests that this channel has been known for. I consider this new Nest Cam battery and together with also the new Nest battery doorbell - "Quirky" because it has some subtle features that makes me say "WHY?" Watch the video on its entirety to find out.
**There is actually a setting in the Google Home app in the "device information" where it says camera mount which is dafaulted to made for Google or Nest mount and when you click on it, it will give you an option for other mounts which will turn OFF the magnet camera off feature. The settings on the app is not really user friendly.**

Fantastic review! The Eufy has the edge on so many things. The cool down notification is incredibly important. What if a burglar goes from walking up to the house to breaking in the door. You would never know for 5 long minutes. The walking towards the camera on the Eufy was very impresssive. The camera caught you almost immediately. The video and audio are pretty close, but the notifications, alarm, and going towards the camera make all the difference. Thanks again for these comparison videos!

I bought two of the eufy solo cam e20 in November 2021 and set each up...one for the front of the house, one for the back. They each worked wonderfully until May, 2022. It was odd, but within a couple weeks of each other, both cameras died.
The cause of death? Not sure, but they each started refusing to connect or stay connected to the network. I tried everything and even walked through troubleshooting with Eufy. This happened to both cameras within a few weeks of each other and I immediately went through the steps of trying to fix each when it happened. That means I dealt with all of this twice.
Anyway, the end result for each situation was Eufy sending replacement cameras because I was still under the 1 year warranty.
So...May/June 2022, I have two new eufy cameras back up and operating great. I was happy with Eufy support. They're great and seemed to stand by their product. No hassle on the replacement process.
Now, we are in April 2023. Guess what happened? One of the cameras is doing exactly what happened to the original cameras....refusing to connect to the network. It's out of the blue, too. It was working fine and it was time to charge it so I put it on the charger and got the notification that charging was done. Suddenly it won't connect. It won't even beep if you try to go through the steps to uninstall the camera altogether and reinstall. I can't even factory reset it. I tried going through the steps with Eufy customer service to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. Sure enough I was doing it right. The camera has just decided it's not going to work anymore.
I asked Eufy if these cameras are intended to be disposable, and they assured me they are not, however I find the evidence to suggest otherwise. This is now three cameras which have died when they are less than a year old.
I am no longer under the 1 year warranty which only applies to the original purchase date. Eufy does not warranty the product to last a year. They promise to replace faulty products that die within a year of the original purchase. That's a big difference, and to be fair, that's industry standard as far as warranty practices go.
However, what the heck, Eufy? The evidence shows that your products are meant disposable cameras that are thrown away and replaced once you use for 6 months to a year. At least the Eufy solocam e20 is.
Let's see how much longer the back yard camera lasts. If I'm correct, it won't last more than a few more months.
Anyone have suggestions on a camera brand without a subscription they would recommend?

    Worked well for a week!
    I bought 3 eufy e40 solo cams.
At first all worked well with the pre configuration settings and I was amazed how good the camera’s were and how good the app was.
After using it for a week all 3 cameras one after the other went from good to garbage in performance.
All started having faults like not detecting or detecting but not sending any notifications or not detecting humans but parts of motions that was not relevant.
You could also setup zones which does not work at all!!!
I started to put the sensitivity higher and higher on each camera but this maybe worked for 10 min. and then gave up totally sending notifications.
All in all it’s a garbage cheap built camera if you ask me. I can say this since I had 3 of them and all had similar issues up-to not sending any notifications at all.
Didn’t want to bother longer and sent them all back.
Now I ordered the nest and have higher hopes that will hopefully perform better.
If you ask me pay a bit more and hope it will work properly otherwise you might end up missing the 14 days return limit and have deal with a support that never ends and never probably get solved.

I am new to the 2C Pro Cam and whilst it has vision of teh street area I want to record it is not activating with motion detection at the range needed. Using my NAS I want to stream to it 24/7 instead of Motion Detection. I have the camera connected to a solar panel.
Is this possible or something that EUFY could be approached to implement? NAS systems are common in homes and it would be extremely useful.

I want to integrate (indoor & outdoor cameras, doorbell, wifi door lock and maybe a flood light) and I’m debating in a smart thermostat from other brand since they still don’t have one. @DavidDLee Před 2 lety +2

I don't own the E40, but the 2C motion detection range is lower than the video field of view. I was able to sneak past the detection.
A better test would be to try detection closer to the edge of field of view on all sides (on the 2D video image, top, bottom, left and right) and at different distances.
The Eufy also has a delay of < 1 sec before it starts recording, and another 1/2 sec until compression artifacts disappear. If at night, another 1/4 sec for the infra-red light to turn on. So max delay is quite long. The suspicious person might have already passed the camera's view, or is too far to see clearly.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  Před 2 lety +1

If you take a look again, you will see I snapped it on the back of the camera before putting it in the bag. This is actually the test when I found out that the camera turns off when it is off the magnetic mount. Also, there is a setting in the app that you can choose if the camera uses the nest mount and you can change it to a non-nest, generic mount..and this setting is in the camera info…which I thought you cannot change anything on that setting…the google home app is really not user friendly.

One key aspect that you fail to mention about Eufy, they can easily be unplugged and reset and used on a different account, when the device is reset the video is also deleted from the home base so you have no recourse . While the nest can also be stolen, there footage remains secure, Google has a free of charge replacement as long as a police report is filed and there is a secure cable accessory a available that will make a tad tougher to just yank it off the wall. For me Eufy is better in video quality and app speed (cam, doorbell etc.) than Google. I have two Eufy 2cPro's and the Eufy battery doorbell and 1 google cam with 24/7 recording. If Google would support 2K video, and improve the speed of their app, I would ditch all my Eufy cams and doorbell.
    App Speed:
    Eufy- Cheetah/Fast
    Google- Snail/Slow
    Live view:
    Eufy - Cheetah/Fast
    Google - Snail/spotty/slow
    Motion Detection:
Eufy - Perfect in close range but does not notice people walking on the road, just the sidewalk in front of my house
Google- Perfect in close and far range. records motion all the way across the street and beyond
    Eufy Doorbell - Spotty
    Video Quality:
    Eufy - Very clear 2K
Google- Very pixelated 1080p to the point that you can't recognise a thief if you have to zoom in on him/her
    Wifi stability:
Eufy - Great in far range
Google - Hit and miss. It loses signal quite often even though there is nothing wrong with the wifi and the router is right next to it.
    Battery:
Eufy - Battery does not last long let alone the marketed 6 months! I have one set on Human only and it only lasts 9 days on a full charge with about 50 notifications a day. If i set it on all motion, it will last me 4 days or so before i need to recharge. I live in a busy street but i have set my camera so that it doesn't film everything on my driveway which is maybe 3-5 notifications a day and that one lasts 13 days tops. The battery doorbell is mega bad and lasts only a week.
Google - plugged so no battery issues there
    Customer Service:
Eufy - Really bad ( they simply don't respond)
    Google - Neutral
My recommendation would be that you take Eufy 2K for clear view and app speed and Google to capture everything that goes on around your house which Eufy might miss if it happens too far out of Eufy's detection range. I saw your videos on Eufy detection range and mine does not detect that far at all. Maybe i have faulty ones?

I tried it and both cameras didn't trigger...but these are PIR based cameras initially, so I have to try these with plugged in cameras that have camera based detection and AI and we will see.

hahaha i love that you're starting to let loose a little bit.... hopefully i'm not rubbin off on ya, sometimes you get to a point like "okay this was fun at first, but now it's the same ole junk" like nest being what 5 years late to the party? same 1080 1/3" image sensors, crappy field of view, low frame rate, etc. ring still puts out updates every other week, and their app is a huge train wreck, if someone is new to the ring world, it will take hours to go thru the app. My ring elite will trigger when a cat walks slowly under the doorbell but won't alert when a live human pulls up in the driveway, gets out, walks up to the door, leans over to place a package under the doorbell, walks to their car and backs out... NO alert... WTF ring? So try this experiment if you're bored, maybe it's a good video topic: If you have it in "people only" mode and a car pulls up righ tin front of the camera, it will detect that it's a car and not a human and it will place the camera in some sort of cool off period and won't trigger human motion detection, i have to run my cam without smart alerts and then i get false alerts when there's movement outside of the motion zones , day or night. this is why i'm pissed at ring. their motion system has been a failure for 2 years now.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  Před 2 lety

I only have my spotlight cam wired in my backyard in people mode..and I get notification everytime when somebody gets out of the backyard.. I have my ring floodlight and pro 2 doorbell in regular motion detection..and I do have some alerts that are not in the zones but rarely. ( mostly slow moving cars at night…which I actually want to get notified because why they are driving slow?) I don’t use people mode on the front because I want to get notified of every movement…cat, dogs, possum..

    • @morejelloplease
      @morejelloplease Před 2 lety

@@LifeHackster yeah i agree, the flaw with people only mode is if it detects a non human and a human suddenly appears then it will not send a notification. smart notification will still record the motion events, i.e. slow moving vehicles, cats, dogs, etc but it will not alert you (you can customize it) but when it doesnt alert properly when a human gets out of a vehicle then smart detection is useless. so now were back to regular detection mode where it records AND alerts on everything, except this is also flawed in that it will detect motion outside of the motion zone, like headlights shining on a wall above the neighbors garage across the street when the motion zone is clearly my front steps, and theres not a drop of light change in the motion zone and it STILL gives a false notification, it's lose/lose with me and ring.

  • @pedroaldorodriguez1161

I got the nest cam battery , only last 3 days . Really disappointed. I also bought the Google hub max , which may be useless without nest cams.

Well i want to know from LH what is his internet bandwidth he’s testing these with and what are the differences while the nest battery cam is wired over POE adapter because my clients most likely want 24/7 live video recordings otherwise what’s the point and ALL THE CAM COMPANIES MAKE $$$ on the backend with subscription services none of them offer FULL 30 - 60 day LQQKBACK OF RECORDINGS LIKE GOOGLE NEST - they all delete the vids after 7- 10-14 days so mr LH you should tell your viewers this FACT and. Most ppl i have asked have not had the cool off issue you are experiencing is it because it’s the battery trying to save power??? We need TRUE LONG BATTERY CHARGING AND USING CAMS but until then WIRED IS THE ONLY WAY TO ACHIEVE THIS
