I believe Mr. Depp could do Hamlet and Othello, and later in his life, King Lear. He has the breadth of emotion as an actor and the depth of soul as a person to make these characters come alive for a new generation. He may not only be the James Dean of our time, but he may be the Laurence Olivier of our time, as well, if given the opportunity.

Johnny Depp is truly the best actor of ALL time.
I think there is no actor more dedicated and more giving of himself than JD.
He truly is not of this world.
He is truly made of pure STARDUST.
Just the very brightest in the Universe...may he and his family live long and healthily and be surrounded by true and everlasting love and security.
What a gift he is to the world.
Such a kind soul. Such a wounded soul. Such a forgiving soul.
Truly the brightest star that ever was...

@@sandradeenicholson Johnny IS the best actor of TODAY! Who would know it better, than me, lol! But...you wrote: the brightest in the whole Universe! Maybe I have another perception on "this". Lol. If you mean, Johnny is the brightest human being in the WHOLE Universe, it is not true. BUT ...if it s the "brightest star" (Hollyw.), then yes! I agree with you...BUT Johnny was BLACKLISTED for years, maybe tht didnt get to you, yet. So you cant say it. In this way! As well, I dont even want, he wins "The Oscar". He dsnt need such "recognition". But you are the wrong person to talk to, when it comes to this! Bye bye...yeah, there r more SERIOUS things to weigh in...you bet! Except for the great acting, realize that this was a "play" and did not tell the truth regarding the Earl's life.
He loved the Country, spending most of his life there in various agricultural pursuits, including some inventions. He is, next to Shakespeare, considered the greatest poet in British history. Only for five years of his life, he admittedly spent drinking. The Captain Billy Downs incident happened during this period. He adored his wife and she him, although he was an infamous rake. The King never completely disavowed him, as his loyalty to the 1st Earl who almost single handedly hid him and brought him back to London where he regained his throne after the execution of Charles the 1st, and Cromwell's takeover never faded. Also, Charles the 2nd was also invoved in the procurement of "ladies" and other stunts with the Earl. This so-called adherment to his life is a farce. The deathbed "confession/conversion" scene has been largely accepted as a story made up by his mother in order to raise the Earl's legacy, as he remained true to his Libertine status to the end. A true genious, I wish people would read his actual poetry. You would see that he was much more than a philandering drunk who gave his wife and son gonorrhea and syphilis which they died from, his son as a 10 year old and his wife, a year after he died.
A very complex and facinating man, who would disquise himself as several characters including Dr. Bendo for his enjoyment fooling many Londoners, he was much more than this play that attempts to condense his life by exploiting some tawdry facts about the Earl's short but amazing existence, of which I have read extensively. For what ppl should mail you? Lmao! A disgusting character, who got, wht his lifestyle was all about! Like it was in these centuries, Syphyllis! Was deadly in the end! And portrayed the life-style! Nothing to be praised about at all! I dont want to read this poet, either! Oh, really? You lived at the time, where the Earl lived, uh? To know? On his deathbed he sure as hell exists, confessed! As it was considered a big deal back then! And he wasnt "a true genius". And you seem to enjoy your long comment, also stating, he gave his WIFE AND CHILD disgusting diseases! I pity you! To adore this "poet". His WIFE AND CHILD died due this guy s horrible, most immorale actions! I pity your soul! If you even have one! NO wonder, the directors of this movie, deleted this scene! They dont love the Bible, nah? Enuff said!

This movie is such a lie. Lord Rochester's life was was rich with his poetry, inventions and his contributions to the Restoration. He was a war hero, the master of the bedchamber and a member of the house of Lords. He loved his wife and children. He loved the country more than London. The play they show was never performed. Yes he was a womanizer, and yes he left Captain Downs to die. But he was a multifaceted genious that this movie completely denies. He drank for five years and quit. He went on to make many inventions, was an expert in animal husbandry. His deathbed confession was manufactured by his mother. He died as he had lived, a pure child of the restoration still beloved by Charles the second.
