Kokushibo was one of my favorite characters in the series. His story was just...tragic, a textbook example of a seeking strength that turns out to be meaningless. Pride, murderous jealously that was at times clouded by genuine love for his brother and it all ended shockingly realistically.

Most of the stories behind demon slayers and demons are sad and always tears me up
And people say DS is only good becoz of animation
It has a great story too..which ofc gets overshadowed by its incredible animation
But at the same time if we were not invested in these characters, no matter how great the animation it wouldnt matter...at least to me..
@@Anu32148it's a decent story, not top notch, just because the characters have sad background stories, doesn't mean that the whole thing has a "GREAT" story. I mean by the end of the day, the main plot sums up in a demon villain who killed the protagonist's family and now the protagonist wants revenge and is hunting the villain. Don't get me wrong, I like demon slayer too, but tell me yourself, how many times have we seen this main plot?

It took 4 people and such a huge amount of time to defeat Kokushibo when in the other hand, it took a split second for Yoriichi to cut his neck half.
That's how you know how damn strong Yoriichi was, even in his 80's.

Plus, from your logic, it would mean Koku has surpassed Muzan if he could somewhat resist because even Muzan got instantly dismantled. And that's obviously not the case. You can't compare anyone in the show with Yoriichi, he was just built different.

This is why I like Kokushibo so much. His backstory can be relatable to more people. His jealousy over his brother being born gifted and far stronger consumed him. I mean Akaza has a good backstory too but it's not as relatable as Kokushibo. Koko was a lot more you could say understandably angry than the other demons.

As a twin that is close with his brother, I can confirm the accuracy of the jealousy portrayed. We both can become very jealous sometimes, but would still always stick up for each other
even just amongst close-age siblings jealousy and competition is common. i have a sister who is only one year older than me, growing up we were the same height, in the same grades same almost everything and bc of that we used to be extremely competitive n jealous of each other. it was crazy. despite all that we were really sticking up for each other like my sister wouldn't hesitate to jump in a fight i am in if that meant protecting me, she wouldn't even care if she hurt or will get hurt

you can see 3 of his eyes were crying and 3 of them werent when he sliced yoriichi in 2 (and both of his actual eyes cried meaning he did love his brother but he couldnt accept it)

Whats even more sad is that its plausible to assume Mitchikatsu most likely would have survived past the age of 25 due to him being the twin of Yorichii. If Michikatsu refused to become a demon he most likely would have died to Muzan but now Yorichii would be angry and probably would have instantly killed muzan thus ending the survival of demons forever.
Not really later on yorichi realized he had to kill muzan regardless but muzan is a master at hiding not even the demon slayer master could find him and he was the smartest guy in the series muzan was willing to hide out yorichi whole lifespan also muzan was a family of the master of the mansion meaning most likely hes just as smart hence why he does all those experiments.....

Kokushibo's backstory made me cry, man. Envied and hated his brother, abandoned everything just to become a demon slayer, turned into a demon (willingly), murdered his only remaining blood relative and died without knowing why he was even born to begin with. My man's backstory is an ant compared to Akaza (whose backstory is basically the Empire State Building. Weird comparison I know lol), but he's still my favorite Upper Rank in every other aspect. Dude's appearance is terrifying but beautiful; a purple-black beehive kimono, Dwayne Johnson levels of muscularity, and six freakin' eyes. Personality? Cold, aloof, reserved, quiet, talks in an absolutely amazing yet mysterious way, genuinely respects those who fight him, and perfectly willing to turn those who he thinks are strong into demons, but a cruel, ruthless, adamant, loyal warrior who will threaten to throw a sword into your brain if you spill even one drop of Muzan's blood. Equipment? Dude... I think I want that katana. Voice (or lack thereof a voice)? Favorite quote is a tie between "If you spill even one drop of this blood, your head and torso shall meet a sorrowful end" and "You merely destroyed my kimono. Not even an infant would die from that. Once I kill you, the others will be easy." Blood Demon Art and Moon Breathing? Holy FUCK, if I encounter this guy, I won't even fight him; I'll just turn into a demon ASAP. 10/10. Favorite Upper Rank. Best personality, best appearance, coolest blood demon art, second-best breathing style, second-best backstory, oh my god what is there not to love about this guy? Even when he absolutely hated his brother, he could never truly despise him and even cried when he saw that Yoriichi still carried the flute Kokushibo made for him. Kokushibo has my eternal respect
Edit: he didn't kill Yoriichi. My guy died of old age and Kokushibo simply cut his corpse in half out of anger and spite

He didn’t kill his brother, his brother died of old age
Yoriichi was to be sent to the Temple because he was the second-born twin. Twins were always a bad omen back then so they always killed the younger one. Yoriichi's Mother didn't want Yoriichi to be killed so his Father decided to instead of killing him, that he would be sent away. Not. because. of. the. mark.
No I’m the manga it says yorichii was sent away because of his hideous birth mark. If he was the second born twin and was supposed to be killed then his father wouldn’t have trained yorichii because he the second twin was bad luck but that is not the case

Sad plot twist, michikatsu (kokushibo) had the same demon slayer mark as yoruichi tanjiro and tanjiros father. Which means he might have been one of the few to be able to live past 25 and actually master sun breathing.
It's debatable whether Tanjiro and Kokushibo (If he chose to stay human) could surpass the age of 25 though. People say the reason Yoriichi's able to live up to the age of 85 despite the mark is because he was born with it, not obtained it like the other Demon Slayers did later on. Meanwhile, that isn't the case with Tanjiro and Kokushibo, since they're one of those who did obtained it. I wish Koyoharu Gotouge did explain more about the mark and other things in Demon Slayer, but sadly, she didn't because the manga's too rushed for the most part.

I don't think Kokushibo was killed, I think he let Gyomei kill him because he became something completely disgusting and unrecognisable. I think Kokushibo saw this and told himself that he's gone too far and was no longer an honourable Samurai but just a monster.

He saw his own reflection in the sword and realised he was a monster.
I don't think he didn't want to continue fighting, but that single moment was enough to break his spirit and prevented him from regenerating his head.
But he wanted to regenerate again though, But because of the Muichiro's Red Blade inside him, He Couldn't.

His Demon Spider-form bears a heavy resemblance to Spider-man’s Man-Spider mutation from Spider-man the Animated Series (1994). And that is the most horrifying thing I’ve ever seen from a children’s cartoon.
For me , his story wasn’t sad but really just painfully relatable because I was like this with my sister ( twin ) for the longest time. When I read the manga I saw myself in some of these panels . Kokushibo and Douma are definitely my favorite demon moons.

That was a demon mark, not slayer mark, he have some immunity to normal demon fleshs but Kobu’s sword was so demonic that it’s just immediately turned him into a demon himself, a powerful one to add!

It took three Hashiras and one of the strongest Demon Slayers to kill Kokushibo, and even then they only managed to win because he realised what a monster he had become and lost the will to fight.
Yoriichi essentially beheaded him in a single strike in his 80s.
I swear, that man goes beyond the concept of "broken".
He is truly "Built" different.
In an odd way, this reflects my brother and I's relationship in regards to hockey and our future. Pride and jealousy clouded everything about us. It wasn't until he left for the military when I realized how much of a fool I was. Wasting my childhood always trying to be better than him but in the end...none of that matters

akaza backstory dosent even have a realistic impact as people say his story is the best. Whereas koko story does. It is fairly common in today's world also where we see brothers having jealousy towards each other as one is more gifted. I also had it when i was a kid but then i realized that it won't bring me any good only just harm, my brother was intelligent and good in maths, i was good in arts same like koko had a family but wasn't as good of a samurai as his brother and yorichi didn't have one as his family were killed but yorichi was extremely gifted. Whereas koko story doesent feel more emotionally touching to those people who don't have a brother, a gifted talented brother. But those who do and especially a talented brother they know that koko story hits very very deep. Akaza story has really unrealistic events in emotions whereas i feel like like koko story had realism in emotions.

I think both backstories are still realistic to be honest. I do agree though, that Kokushibo's backstory's sadder than Akaza's. This is just my opinion though.
Unrealistic in a world of demons and people with swords which have powers, also don't know why u think Akaza's Is unrealistic in the first place.
I loved your videos, I was looking for someone who explains characters’ strories, and you do it perfectly 🌹.
KOKUSHIBO has the most tragic backstory in Demon Slayer. Because his backstory reflect the reality of life. Most of us humans are very weak when it comes to emotions. When someone puts everything at the stake to get desired results, but still can't get that, that's when anyone can get angry from himself. Not everyone has a big heart to accept all things. Only few who are blessed can capable of that.
Just like Kokushibo & Yorrichi, everyone has a complicated relation in our life. Kokushibo deeply loved his brother and cared for him since from childhood. No doubt about it. And this love never leaves him. Even after when Kokushibo become a demon, after forgetting his family, wife & childrens, only face he remembers is of Yorrichi's. Even he kept his flute for hundreds of years with him. And at last it was his and Yorrichi's childhood memories which makes him realise how far he is gone and that all he did was meant for nothing, as he always loved his younger brother. And he died realising it.
What a tragic life!
After seeing how much time and care the animation team has put into Demon Slayer I'm more excited about how crazy all the future fights are going to be.
It’s quite unfortunate, he never realized how important he was until the very end, his art form, the moon is a reflection of the sun. They were both the same coin, both equally talented and equally skilled; yet like the opposite side of a coin, he chose to walk the opposite path, his love turned to jealousy and he became a demon.

Reasons:
Compared to Akaza who had lost everything and had nothing left to fight for as a human, Kokushibo, willingly became a demon with so much left in his human life to care about, his family he left behind, his comrades he fought beside, and most importantly, his brother who was the only person who not once hated Kokushibo when he was known as Michikatsu, even in Yorrichi's final moment when he was old, kreppled and even blind, all he could do was display tears at the sight of his brother after 60 years and meeting him for the final time. All he wanted was to be like him, and as he crubles to dust from Gyomei and sanemi's attacks, is feeling regret for the 500 years of carnage he has caused, and saddest of all, despite being so hateful of his brother and having very little to no humanity left, he KEPT the flute he made for his brother, that he broke when slicing Yoriichi's dead body. He kept his brother's flute for 500 years until his last moment.
Kokushibo is Upper one among the carnevorus demons, but he is upper one for the saddest backstory in my book

It actually makes sense for Kokushibo to be the one responsible for giving Kaigaku Muzan’s blood: Like Kokushibo, Kaigaku was scared of death, wanted to be the best, and had extreme hatred for fellow demon slayer, Zenitsu. He must had seen himself in the slayer.

Bruh...Yoriichi is such a beast, he actually never lost and died (most likely other than old age) instead of defeating his brother, even while blind and old and feable! With a single blow. Had he not done that, his brother would have been eliminated easily. Yikes, this is insane. I hope they bring him back in.
I think yorichi only survived this long since he like tanjiro was born with his mark unlike others who force theirs to manifest and activate since yorichi and the Kamados bodies adapted to the power of the mark over time
