Matthias Steiner's 258kg clean and jerk in the men's +105kg division. This lift was for the gold medal and one of the great moments from the Beijing Olympics.
this is the single greatest lift in weightlifting history i think. i mean its not the world record or anything. but after every thing he went through the previous year losing his wife to a car accident, its amazing he was even there let alone winning it. inspirational stuff
@@ccbgaming6994he didn’t make the 248kg in the previous round. Had to go up to 258 to secure the gold medal he promised his wife who died in a car accident just before the Olympics. This is probably the best moment in sports ever. The German commentator said „he didn’t do it for Austria, he didn’t do it for Germany, he did it for Susann“
Just an amazing true Olympic moment....he has to lift more than he had ever done before to win gold by far....and inspired by his recently deceased wife ...he does it...the celebration is incredible but missed off here at the end....a true champion
Story about this: So a few months ago, Matts(Matthias) Wife died on a car accident, So he promised To his wife that he will win the gold olympics medal. He remembered his promise to his wife. On the 2 lifts, He failed But on the 3rd one, That was his last chance to win the gold olympics medal. He lifted it and got very happy and emotional. He showed his wife picture after that
Can't find a video on youtube that shows this lift with some more of Steiner's reaction afterwards. You just know what he's got going on in his head when he ramps up the power.
One thing is to lift a weight and that's it (like deadlifts and squats) and a waaaay another is to lift it ABOVE YOUR HEAD. You need to be strong AND fast. That's called being explosive. That's power. IMHO, Steiner will beat Ronnie anytime.
@ownedlol123 "Matthias Steiner's 258kg clean and jerk in the men's +105kg division. This lift was for the gold medal and one of the great moments from the Beijing Olympics." - Video Description
WOW im canadian and with his story with his wife's death and all he pulled off like 8 KG ( 15 pounds) better than his self-record.... tell me that the mental aspect of sport doesn't exist... when you want something bad you can achieve it!!!!
@xeli1994x is there a vid out there of ronnie squatting 370 kg for reps without a suit? In one if his training films he squats 800 pounds for a double, fully equiped. Ronnie's strong, but I don't think he can (or ever could) squat 370 kg for reps unequipped.
@IFknHateUTube not the quarterback Jay Culter, the current Mr. Olympia is also named Jay Cutler, and his squat and deadlift are both over 700, but I dunno how'd he do in powerlifting like this...
Wow! Great lift, but I think he knew that he was about an inch away from dumping that jerk behind. It's great to see this amazing lift from the side for once! THANKS!
@bcopp8323 indeed, the two disciplines are a world apart - I wasn't disputing that at all. This was in reply to some bb.com doughboy who claimed bb's would be able to curl that or something ridiculous to that effect.
@hipoxantha Hey genius, you know this specific guy did this for his (passed away) wife, don't you? He dedicated the rest of his training just for the sole reason he promised a gold medal for her Fuck bodybuilding? I'd think again, he's probably accomplished more in his training alone than you have in the past 10 years
I get what you're saying but you are grossly underestimating steiner's upper body strength. He can probably overhead press more than 160kg, his bench is easily 200.
@xeli1994x Coleman did 800 pounds (363kg) for 2 reps. These were to parallel, with a belt, in a suit and with knee wraps. Coleman is not stronger than Steiner. I guarantee he can FS over 300 kg (despite what he said in an interview), let along BS it, and that's ATG, not to parallel.
Any of your IFBB pros would have a pretty unbeliavably hard time in doing a good,. full c&j like the one performed here masterfully by Steiner. With those massive biceps they're rocking nowadays I doubt they could even properly rack the bar.
@BackSquat42 ronnie squats 370 kg for reps without a suit ...hes much stronger than steiner whos maximum squat is at 300-350kg( in an interview)... but like im saying : if ronnie would have learned the technique, he would be able to beat steiner
If you're referring to Steiner, he hasn't been convicted of any drug abuse, so you're just being one of those trolls accusing without evidence. If you're referring to Coleman, I have no idea what drug he took, but yeah, he took drugs.
@BackSquat42 yea but till he pressed the 1000 kg only with his muscles...Steiner uses VERY VERY MUCH SWINGING.... i dont think steiner does more in legpress than ronnie coleman...
yeah you know strenght has different faces...ronnie would destroy steiner in benchpress for example...while steiner would squat more...you cant say hat ronnie or steiner is stronger, they train with different priorities also there is no strongest man in the world because nobody is the strongest in each exercise...sry 4 bad english
@xeli1994x So where's the video of ronnie squating 370 reps without a suit? Or did you read that in muscle and fitness? LOL The fact that you even brought up leg press makes it clear that you really don't know what you're talking about.
mmmhh my comments are OLD, i have a different opinion now...still i think steiner is NOT in a completely different world in terms of strenghts....ronnie did heavy powerlifting before his bodybuilding carrier, he has almost a similar strenght level as steiner
Again some guys came up with bodybuilding when this video is all about olympic weightlifting. When will they learn? I´m glad nobody came up with Kimbo Slice....
also weightlifter and powerlifter have both some BIG weakpoints...if i would have to call someone the strongest man in the world , i would definetely pick a strongmen!
Well, just by looking at your so called arguments i see that you have no clue about what you're saying, all you do is copying statements and mixing it with your own ignorant opinion. Why arguing with somone that doesn't even have basic knowledge about this sport? Do some research about this topic before you start thinking your opinionated comment has any arguments at all.
Ronnie would probably be too worried about how is precious pecs looked and drop the fucking bar on his head and die. Of vanity. Which is the long slow pathetic death of all body builders.
@BackSquat42 yeah but still ronnie is stronger....if he would train lifting , he would be able to lift more than steiner because he has much more power.....hes not only better in legpress, also in the "main power exercises" squat, deadlifts and benchpress... Do you really think steiner is stronger than a guy with crazy genetics training since ca. 20 years(+nutritionplan and steroids )? sry 4 bad english
this is the single greatest lift in weightlifting history i think. i mean its not the world record or anything. but after every thing he went through the previous year losing his wife to a car accident, its amazing he was even there let alone winning it. inspirational stuff
definately
Isnt the world record 264 or something. It's not that far off.
it was the world record in 2008, the day he broke it
258kg all the way up? I think it is
@@lijax9606 wr at the time was 263 by rezazadeh
Best moment from the Olympics this year. I shed SO many tears when he won Gold.
bro how are u
damn how old is this
First time i've seen it from this angle, really great, congrats Mathias
After 14 years, the story of your loyalty is still being written everywhere❤
and STILL, THE emotional moment of sports for a long time (for me)
You cut out the best part! :D
The best moment for me is the moment he drops the weights.
Damn, he gets under the bar so fast. Awesome lifter.
Incredible technique, explosion, and strength. The next Olympics is going to be so legit!!!
The greatest moment in Olympics history.
ONE of, not THE. Let’s not get carried away here

This video along with the story is absolutely amazing.
Literally the very next year after his wife died he engaged with another woman

great moment! great athlete!!
This is the best video for his lift I've seen singularly because it doesn't have some goofy inspirational music over it.
For some reason, the scream just makes it that much more empowering...it's like a war cry-but from a lone wolf.
You can SEE how heavy it is! Congrats!
He did not retire; in fact he has competed since the Olympics several times and is currently training fulltime.
Incredible!
What an inspiration ❤
This makes me so happy
so cool. gives me chills

This video seems so irrelevant, but the story behind it is so beautiful and sad at the same time..

Pass the doping test.
power= strength+speed. So no, that guy's definition is not wrong.
You saw that?
😍😍😍 i like
There were four hands lifting that bar that day…
569 almost 570 pounds, anyone know how much he weighs?
@ownedlol123 Steiner won gold for the C&J in Beijing.
@Socomite Oh I didnt see that comment, my bad.
can ronnie front squat 258k with a half second pause hams compressed on the cavs? i think not.
everyone in the stands.....AAAAAAAUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
fucking intense, one more pound i doubt he wouldve made it
wowwwwwww you have some strong arguments there! way to go! you must be like 10. Judging by your name, 18 probably
@hipoxantha It's not bodybuilding, it's Olympic lifting.......
i thought the world record is held by hussein rezazadeh...258.5kg

@classified01 He meant body building, not olympic lifting. This is oympic lifting. Bodybuilding: Think Arnold Schwartzeneagar and Ronnie coleman.
