Nice video, as always guys. All you videos make me hungry and want to travel. Thank you for sharing. I’m not a big fan of Macha. I spent my teenage years as a field hand, putting up alfalfa bales for the local farmers. Fresh cut alfalfa and Macha have the same smell/taste to me. I pointed this out to my brother who worked the fields with me and you could see the lightbulb turn on in his head as he told me that he didn’t drink Macha either because it had a taste that he couldn’t remember where he had encountered it before. Now he knows. Thanks again.

うわぁすごく美味しそうです!本当に全ての抹茶料理を食べたい!My friends and I meant to go on a trip to Japan this summer but of course we had to cancel our trip because of the state of the world right now. I was really looking forward to going on a “matcha adventure” during my stay, but visiting Kyoto was not part of our itinerary. In a way I’m a bit glad that we didn’t go before I knew of these places that serve matcha-based confectioneries and meals, because now I can look forward to visiting Kyoto when my friends and I finally do get to go to Japan someday! Until then I will live vicariously through you two! 🍵✨

My favorite matcha sweet in Kyoto was a soft-serve matcha ice cream on a cone (some come with red bean and jellies on the side in the cone), which I got in one of the many sweets shops on the old side of the river in Kyoto leading up to Yanaka temple. But instead of a matcha powder, there was a dark matcha sauce drizzled over it which I think is probably more enjoyable to eat. The ice cream was tart but also sweet, of course, but the sauce was only very tart, which was a PERFECT complement to the sweet ice cream with the same matcha tones. It was probably the best soft-serve i've ever had EVER. I also discovered matcha Kahlua at a Mega Don Quixote in Meguro in Tokyo and picked it up because it was a cute small bottle and I like matcha and I like Kahlua. I wasn't necessarily expecting it to be good, but to my surprise, it was actually VERY good! So if you haven't tried that one, definitely look for it at any Mega Don Quixote (it may be at a regular Don Quixote but I found it in the mega one. :)) My favorite konbini matcha snack is the Alfort vanilla butter cookies with the matcha chocolate on top. Ugh. They're amazing! It's a light matcha chocolate and they are just very sweet and smooth cookies. I mean, butter cookies are great on their own, so throw some matcha chocolate on them and they just get better! I saw them at every konbini I went into. I could get them for awhile in Nijiya Market in the States, but then they stopped selling the vanilla butter cookie one and only sold the chocolate cookie one with the matcha chocolate on top, which is NOT nearly as good, imo!
Oh, my last favorite and ULTIMATE TOP favorite matcha (packaged) sweet of all time so far... is ROYCE matcha chocolate fudge! I found that in a store in Narita airport. I know there's a factory in Sapporo, and they're sold across Japan (I imagine - maybe in department stores?). For anyone reading who's in L.A., you can get a marked-up box (they're a little pricy to begin with, even in Japan) in the higher-end sweets area in the front of Mitsuwa Marketplace in Culver City. There are also CZcams videos that show you how to make a DIY version at home which I haven't tried yet but I will! And you can order them online too I think. The ROYCE matcha fudge is supposed to stay refrigerate until eaten, and it literally melts in your mouth. Alfort vanilla butter cookies, ROYCE matcha fudge, and Kyoto matcha soft-serve with the matcha sauce (my fave matcha treat from a Kyoto shop!), all amazing! Cheers and enjoy Kyoto!!! 🍡🍵⛩
