And I could go on and on about her achievements(way more than Aretha, btw.) @@steveheckle8847 half the time I have no idea what Ariana is even saying when she’s singing because her pronunciation is so bad and she’s actually known for this. This is because her voice can be quite muffly and breathy which makes it harder to pronounce your words. Mariah has never had a problem with that oop
Love this duet. Remember it well when it aired in the 90's. 2 amazing divas together and 2 of the absolute best singers. You can see the influence Aretha had on the next generation of proper singers. I love how respectful Mariah is too, not trying to out sing Aretha, just letting her lead and only going for it when Aretha encourages her and even then holding the mic pretty far from her mouth. Classy.

These women can blow the highest mountains.
This showcases how respectful Mariah is. She was wildly successful and channeling more of her personality out at that point but I truly believe that she was genuinely admiring Aretha up close, in all of her glory. And I don't find her hyping Aretha up at all a sign of insecurity. It takes a certain level of confidence and excitement to praise someone so highly. Just look at Mariah's expression, she was thinking "Obviously this is her stage!".
Fast forward 2 decades later and Mariah now is to modern stars as what Aretha was to her. A figure of legend.
