Police stops around Istanbul is pretty common due to illegal immigrants and foreign drug smugglers from other countries unfortunately. As a local, I remember I've been stopped once every week on my way to work for almost a month. Don't take it personally. Turkey is one of the only countries where multiple cultures fit and tolerate each other.
Great video!
From middle east and south Asia, how is a black person able to reach Istanbul 👀
@@fredcheru5439 They come with flight legally, then overstay.
@@alpt1980 your country is filled with Syrians, afghanis, iraqis,Pakistanis, alot of them illegally and causing crime or terrorism but how dare one black person visit tûrkiye as a tourist.
@@fredcheru5439 Turkiye is almost visa-free country, do not require visa from almost any country. Just pay fee and you good to go.

Sly, I understand coming from the perspective of an African-American, the police stops are not only annoying, but also give you the impression that you're being racially discriminated or something nefarious like that. I assure you this isn't the case. I've been Turkey multiple times as a white Portuguese guy. I've also had numerous occasions were I've been stopped and my passport checked by police.
Although it seems stable and modern, Turkey sits in an extremely turbulent and chaotic region. They've had conflicts on their borders for years, and have had various terror groups (PKK, Asala*, ISIS) attacking Turkish civilians over many decades. The security situation is taken very seriously as a response to this. It's not because your black or anything like that.
i agree but Aselsan is a Turkish defense corporation not a terror groups
They also stop and ask for ID in Italy and many European countries if you look Arab.
@@umit9365 I think that he wanted to mention armenian terrorist group "ASALA"
@@umit9365 yes my bad, I meant ASALA
Very well said brother
Police stops me a lot too in Istanbul without a reason (I'm Turkish) don't take it personally man. Nice video have a nice trip.
Man Turkey has really jumped up on the list for countries to visit! Thanks so much for your time in the great and relaxing city walks.
Hi Sly, In some cultures if you get a bird poop on you or your car, house, etc.. is sign that you get a big pay or something good will happen to you in the future. 😊
I’m Headed There In A Few Months. Your Videos Are Very Helpful And Very Informative. Thank You So Much For Creating Them.
Thank you for your experience and for you showing us amazing I'll be coming out there in September so I'm pretty excited
We would be happy to host you in our country. I hope you will have a pleasant time.
Another Awesome Adventure Thank You Sly🙂❤👍Watching from NB Canada🙂🙂
Thank u for the video of Istanbul. 😊
I am glad you found this iconic Vefa place.... Boza is made from fermented millet and it tastes just like apple sauce.... very healthy. So its better to think of it as a desert..... But where on earth were your eyes? This is such a stunning place from the late 19th century docorated all over with the famous Iznik tiles. In the same street is a new place which sells Salep - a drink for cold weather. Tastes like vanilla pudding sauce but more delicious. It's made from an Orchid root.
Dang, the gloomy weather messes things up. Another nice walk is Bagdat Caddesi from roughly the Feneryolu Marmaray station to the Bostanci Marmaray station. It's about 4 miles long with broad sidewalks and lots of nice stores. It's a straight flat road with no hills or turns.
Beautiful Video ✅
I started following b/c of your Rio video!! Vai Brasil! I kinda thought those steps looked like the ones in Lapa (Escadaria Selaron). I haven't made it to Brazil yet, hopefully one day! For now, I'll travel along with you :)
I like cloudy weather, it gives a mystique vibe to wherever you are. No worries.
I love all the colors in the cozy little town in Turkey. That drink looked interesting too. 🤩
You have a comfortable walking pace. Enjoyed the views. There are some streets that resemble old town Mombasa.
Great stuff bro
Great content lovely 🥰
Thanks for showing your experience brother. I like to see a country before I go spend my hard earned dollars
🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷Türkiye İstanbul dan selamlar
Dude, you passed/missed the most famous tantuni restaurant at 0:10 "Suat Usta Mersin Tantuni"
I have been going to Turkey every year since 2016. There is something that really caught my attention in your videos. This is the first time I see this city so empty. Istanbul is an incredibly vibrant city. Apparently it was very crowded in the summer. I'm so surprised.
Security over freedom in Turkey, in many sense. This is the price of stability in our region. No one stops you because you are a black American. All countries have their own solid realities other than the realities of the American society.
America is awesome Don't be such a jealous little weasel
Man the Caddebostan coast is pretty nice too; you can get to it if you walk south from the Suadiye Mamarmay station to Çetin Emeç Blv.; just walk west along Çetin Emeç Blv. until you get to near the Fenerbahçe area; Çetin Emeç Blv. hugs the Marmara sea and has some nice views and usually lots of families hanging out by the water; to leave the area just walk north from the Fenerbahçe area to the Feneryolu Marmaray station. This Caddebostan coast can be tagged on to a trip to the Bagdat Caddesi shopping street.
Last comment here man: I think a couple more places you should check out are the neighborhood of Bebek (it's a luxurious waterfront neighborhood along the Bosphorus) and Zorlu Center mall.
You can get to Bebek from the Aşiyan F4 funicular station; the F4 funicular connects to the M6 metro at Boğaziçi Üniversitesi; the M6 metro connects to the M2 metro at Levent. From the Aşiyan F4 funicular station, just walk south down Cevdet Paşa Caddesi for like a mile; it's a beautiful neighborhood on the water.
The Zorlu center mall is a really nice mall; it's connected to a massive metro station complex (Gayrettepe metro station) that's quite the sight to behold; if you try to try to transfer from the M2 to the M11 metro, you'll probably go through 8 escalators or so. It's like a 1 km-long fully underground transfer that also connects to the metrobus and the Zorlu center mall. This station complex is probably as big as some of the larger ones in Seoul or Tokyo.
fam, why dont you visit the bosphorus (ortakoy-bebek) and the famous bagdat street (suadiye-ciftehavuzlar).
Hey kankam (bro) im sorry for all the police stops you experienced. I am British living in Turkey (also youtubeing) and i never get stopped. Not really. And if i do, i speak English and they let me go without checking. Additionally, they never really look twice at me or give me dirty looks, like cops do in Spain and back home in London. Take care mate!
Hola great videos.. I too am in Istanbul exploring...I your video to the mosque on the Asian side inspired me to go check it out. Also I totally understand your sentiment about the police..
are you still in Istanbul ?
Quick question I have been a follower of yours for years. Do you plan on traveling for the rest of your life or settling somewhere? and out of all of countries you have visited where is your favorite?
You should go and buy a lottery ticket. In Türkiye, if a bird shits on you, it's considered good luck.
Soy Mexicano y amo con toda el alma a Gente de Zona. Para mí el mejor dúo de la música urbana.
What month did you go? I take it these videos aren't from this week?
At 5:14 seconds on the video, you can spot the Baran Et & Mangal Steak House on your right , which serves the one of the best kebabs and meat dishes in the city. However, the place can get very crowded, and you might have to wait in long queues. But trust me, it's worth it for the amazing food taste and great service. This is a well-known local spot, and not a tourist trap location, so you can expect an authentic experience. Enjoy Istanbul,
Полиция мне погрозила пальцем, когда они попали мне в кадр!)))
Люблю Стамбул!

9:18 a lucky day I’d say 😊
With all due respect, you are in a country which is the world champion wrt the number of refugees it is hosting. It is beyond normal if you are in touristic areas and do not look "local" that you are stopped by the police. People of Turkey are rightfully complaining about this situation. I am talking about millions of undocumented people mostly young males who came into the world champion in another category: inflation!

"All the cafes" (at 8:51, which Seattle is well know for) got to Europe from here. Check out the history of coffeehouse. (Pitty you didn't get into the one at 1:52.) 😊

Go to Bağdat caddesi, Kadıköy.
Very nice videos! I love Istanbul, I have visited many times! I made some videos there too!❤❤
I am kind of surprised. I was in Istanbul for 2 weeks last year and never got stopped once. Police just passed me many times. I even had my camera and video going. Things changed in one year.
1 year is too long in there, make it shorter and shorter..
Things can change in days in türkiye. It’s not like Europe. 🤷♂️
here is middleeast .
9:23 Birds sh$ting on you is actually considered as good luck in Turkey (no joke😇) so it’s not that bad 🤗

That university area reminded me of Washington, DC. All right, now I'm interested in Turkey. lol.
DON'T. Bigots.
0:54 Unfortunately, there is a lot of Police control, especially in Istanbul, because there are so many illegal immigrants in Turkey and they always cause trouble.
Absolutely your 100% correct illegal immigrants cause trouble and the tourists blame thinking it’s the Turkish people
So they assume a black person is a illegal immigrant and not tourist?
Miniaturk was on your right side with the green wall and bushes in front of it not on your left side across the street. If you have walked 200mt you would have seen the entrace, i hope you kept walking :)
Yeah, that was a rough day. The overcast didn't help.
Hey Sly, you should come to Russia, its full summer here, you would love it 😊
Seattle weather
Turkey is a country that has experienced great problems in its big cities due to terrorism and has suffered a lot of casualties. It is important for your safety that the police are asking for identity cards at every corner, stopping and checking everyone one by one. Turkey has received a lot of uncontrolled immigration from Arab countries in the last 5 years and the structure of the city has changed a lot. 5 years ago, everyone considered it a paradise, but now there is a migration towards Anatolia and the old Istanbul local people are leaving the city.
Bird s…is very good it will give you luck and prosperity according to old tales..
Если на вас птичка какнула - будете богатым!
Так говорят у нас в России!!!
Будьте здоровы, живите богато!!!)))))
As a black person I really wouldn't enjoy being stopped by the police everytime they look up and see me!
dude this has nothing to do with race or skin color, I am Turkish, my skin color is white, but even if we come across the police while walking outside in the evening, they ask for our ID.
Do not take it personally, actually it is for you being safe in the area, you know in todays world nowhere is safe, they do random checks not to miss any terrorist attempt that may occur.....very crowded city ,many tourist attractions, and we as locals happy that police do these random checks....by the way bird shit means good luck :)
Explore outside of Istanbul to get a richer Turkish experience.
I think I got shitted on😂😂😂😂
And it is a Turkish superstition that if a bird shits on you, that's your lucky day and you should buy a lottery ticket or something.
❤️🇹🇷🫡
Same thing would happen to any clearly foreign person in most countries outside the "Western sphere". Your vice gives away a lot of stress.
you got shit on meaning goodluck bro...is alll well
Are all cities in Turkey modern like Istanbul? Or are only touristic cities modern?
We live in caves, hunt in the forest and eat raw meat.
hirrrrrr
Majority of the big cities are similar. If you’re willing to visit, no worries. We live in the 21st century 😊

Ive been to 14 countries. Never been asked to show my passport in public
Try to add 10+ million refugees and immigrants to a country in a decade, then it becomes a necessity.
@@KhaLduNTR That makes sense, especially since Turkiye's economy isn't the best presently. In fact it's struggling. And refugees and undocumented immigrants can add to its burden.
Sounds like you got stopped less in Syria and it's a more diverse country and in a war too XD
you missed chance to become rich. if the bird shit right in the middle of your head, it means you'll be rich soon. i know it's superstitious but who knows!!!
Boza it's made from 🐫 semen 😏
Nah, maybe that is what you have been made from💀
You're not alone Bro, I had to contact the U.S. embassy to get out of Turkey or however they spell it now. My issue wasn't the police, it was the bigots amongst the normal people. They served food to groups that arrived after me, served solo people the exact meal I ordered and they arrived after me. Over charged me for things. No greeting while entering stores; a White guy walks in and gets a lavish greeting, SMH. Basically treated me as if I didn't exist. And when they did acknowledge me it was often with a turned up nose. NEVER AGAIN Turkey. One store owner, asked what I do and how I make money, as I explained he stopped me cause his Ego just couldn't handle it.
My thing was count your blessing, He manages/owns a shop on the beach in Antalya/Kontalya & jealous of me. SMH
Some folks were cool, just far too many weren't. I think they teach their folk that they're better than all "Black" folk. And when that shit don't fit their reality, they snap. Sad Adults SMH And they stole my IPad when I arrived to Istanbul, at security. I didn't realize until I got to my hotel. For such a beautiful place, they have shitty attitudes. Don't visit. 22 countries and counting.
I unsubscribed because you continued to write turkey in the title despite all the warnings. The real name of the country is Türkiye.
Hahahahha😂 go and cry
CHILL BRO..
Dang 😂 Don't get so offended!

Racial profiling seems common
It isn't racial profiling. I travelled extensively across Istanbul and other cities, as a white Portuguese person I got asked for my passport many times. Other people in this comment section have said that even though they are Turkish they get the same thing.
Even though i am Turkish, they even take my ID and examine it while walking outside in the evening. i wonder when you will understand that this has nothing to do with race?
@@rolealert4503 they don't want to because they haytte gGodd
