shawarma is a mispronunciation of the Turkish word cevirme, which means any type of meat that is cooked while rotating. Arabic doesn't have all the vowels that Turkish language has, so most of the foods that come from us, they have a mispronounced version in Arabic.
@@spidyman8853 burnnnn
we dont care arabic shawerma is much better turkish shawerma isnt even a shawerma
@@abdallahamer8817
Yes, Arabic Shawarma has a much better taste and with nice flavours. Turkish Shawarma is bland. Has no taste.
Also, Arabic Beklava or as the Arabs call it Baklawa is much much nicer than Turkish ones.
Yea really objektiv im sure you guys tried one in Turkey, nothing compared to shawarma that overflavored cinamon thing
A döner dürüm will remind you shawarma of course because that comes from döner as well, because they basically learned it From Turks. As döner means it spins/rotates and shawarma is also a word derived from another word çevirme- which means turning as well. And dürüm just means a wrap.
Yeah shawarma is copy of Döner
Shawerma is arabic
@@id6113 "Shawerma " is Turkish word Chevurme /Chavarma. which means Doner as well.
@@id6113
Yes, Shawarama is the Arabic version. I will be honest, the Arabic Shawarama tastes much better. I tried Turkish one but not as flavourful as the Arabic one. Just saying from experience.
@@spidyman8853 you have to have döner in turkey tho otherwise ofc its gonna be bad turks don't put no sauce in it its pure meat
The word shawarma etymologically comes from the Turkish word "çevirme"(chevirme) it means "to spin" or "spinning", döner the popular Turkish name for the kebab sandwich means "to spin", "spinning" because of the vertically spinning meat on the stick.
As a Turk who lives in istanbul touristical restaurants are under rated. If you come to istanbul you have to ask to the local people. But not the receptionist. For example before the menemen restaurant there is a lahmacun restaurant which is the one of the best in Istanbul. Everytime i go kadıköy i'm there.
Hey bro, he was not a hustler on 0:33, there are more undercover cops in this street than you might think.
Inside of the Blue Mosque is so beautiful
Thanks for sharing. I plan on traveling to Istanbul this summer . I look forward to visiting some of the places you mentioned.
Thank you! What a wonderful quick tour.
You were seeing a lot of people bandaged up because Istanbul is one of the most popular places in the world for Medical Tourism.
Ive been following you since you were in South Africa. This was a lovely video thanks!
much appreciated👊🏿
00:40 is quite common in Istiklal Caddesi. It is for yours and everyone's safety. There are a lot of civilian undercover cops 👍😊
Video çekerek gitmeseydi pasaport sormazlardı
😍😍😍Loved it!!
Hi from central Washington 🌲 Thanks for sharing your world 🌎 travels!!👊🏻💯
Cwu grad here
Welcome!
nice video fam! whenever you have time, try the turkish pizza (lahmacun)
11:49 shavurma = Doner
Durum = Wrap
Another Awesome Adventure Thank You Sly🙂❤👍Watching from NB Canada🙂
Glad you enjoyed it
In 2 weeks in Istanbul I never had a cop checked my ID. I also filmed a ton everywhere. Strange. And I loved the teas.
We had the opposite experience with the cops both on and off camera 😅
U are not black I guess
Very interesting
Love Istanbul
One of my favourite cities
I dont live in istanbul but 450 for durum is very expensive in my city its about 100-150 turkish lira and size of durum is same
ı live in turkey
I think he was likely in the tourist zone. I’ve been there. The food is a tourist trap for sure
Durum + dessert + 2 cups of tea = 470, still expensive but he is in the heart of Old Town. The total should be about 10 dollars- 320 liras, not 15.
I was in a tourist zone.
Well, you haven't been to Nişantaşı, Gayrettepe, Etiler, Kemerburgaz in Istanbul then.
Around Taksim, prices change depending on establishment, but for someone from Nişantaşı is cheap, normal.
The tourist trap is just outside of Grand Bazaar Beyazıt exit, between Beyazıt and Sultan Ahmet. That's the tourist trap; the menu has prices, but they make up any excuse to charge double. You can't even say no or disagree because the establishments and people who work in that are Mafia, and they look like Mafia, too. Even as a Turkish, I paid the double price what the menu indicates because written prices in that area don't have any meaning. Also, staff look very scary waiting any second to jump on you for a disagreement on a bill.
Great Video.Enjoy staying in Turkiye.
You got to go to princess islands too.. could take a ferry from Eminonu
Istanbul is amazing
Definitely try Hatay Döner somewhere if you can find it in Istanbul, it's one of my absolute favorites! Also if you love museums definitely hit up the Istanbul Archeological Museum. Best museum I've ever been to hands down.
Love Istanbul!😍
Walk the bostanci on a sunny day; it'll be packed with an awesome vibe; it's along the marmara sea on the asian side. istiklal caddesi at night has a great vibe too. Try doner, lokma, and a large baklava (you can get em at night at one of the stalls on istiklal caddesi). Eat a Turkish breakfast if you like carbs.
Please go see the famous palaces 🙏🏼
it has shwarma doner in it durum means wrapped
Chawarma is çevirme (turning sth) actually which is another way of saying döner (it turns). Basically, the source is Turkish what you ate is the original one..
That dude "Salt Bae" (*Turkish Chef and Internet Phenomenon, Nusret Gokce) has a few restaurants in town and one of them was right by where you were eating at by the Grand Bazaar (*one of largest and oldest covered markets in the world).
I believe you should mention a bit of Hagia Sophia's history, like it was built on 6th century and was the largest cathedral in the world for 1000 years
You handed over a copy of your passport or the original document? I thought it was always best to keep the original at your accommodation. This is why I got the passport card. He would have received a passport copy and my passport card.
I just showed a picture of it.
Did the official show you his badge? I would be a bit uneasy if someone in plainclothes stopped me for a passport check.
Pretty sure the jacket he is wearing is a police jacket. I've seen plain clothes police in Turkey and the jacket he is wearing looks similar to theirs. The jacket has police written on It.
@@isimbulamadm7972 Ah, ok. It's difficult to see in the video. But on second look, I do see "Polis" placards on the fence in the background.
I brushed him off at first until I saw the emblem on his jacket and the police car behind him.
Just coz of your colour he thought u were economic immigrant from Africa 😮😢
@@bonfacewachira3297Getting your Id checked is very common for men whether you are a foreigner or Turkish here, as a woman ive never been asked but you can ask Turkish men how constantly they are getting a criminal record check every now and then. That specific street has been suicide bombed so many times in last 10 years so undercover cops keep asking people's ID.
Quick question I have been a follower of yours for years. Do you plan on traveling for the rest of your life or settling somewhere? and out of all of countries you have visited where is your favorite?
Go to Topkapı palace
I loved Istanbul, Turkey. Went last year and took a few days to hop over to Tel Aviv. You better not try that now. jeje. You have to try to fish sandwiches. Loved them. Go see all the mosques.
Yeah...looks like you got there at the right time.
Video çekerek gittiği için pasaport sordular. Öncesinde keşif yapıp sonra bir patlama gerçekleştirebilirsin
I always wonder when im watching travel vlogs: are you just walking around with a GoPro in your hand? Are people comfortable with that, being on film? Does it get in thr way of ehst toure doing? I had a GoPro on my backpack when walking arounf Iceland and every time i would be talking ti someone in a store or restaurant, I could tell they were visibly uncomfortable becaise of it.
I just walk with an Osmo pocket in my hand.
When you bite the pepper, I screamed internally "just don't".
Yeah..I got ahead of myself there
Again, please, it's Turkiye, not Turkey( Bird). You don't like someone to misspell your name or your country like saying BSA...!!
BSA 😂😂😂 I like that. Not the people but the governments: Bush, Clinton, Obama, Trump, Bidenare all the BS of America.
From Yelm Washington...Brotha, them Cisterns would've had me lookin for an oxygen tank! I started panting for air, watching your video. Love the work and dedication...keep it up...Safe travels!!
They were nice and historic, but I needed air after 10 mins. Thanks👍🏿
"Dürüm" means literally "wrap" and "döner dürüm" means "rotating meat wrap".
Dude, you passed the most famous döner restaurant 11:57 🤣🤣
You return home too early. İstanbul 24/7 living city. U should go to outside at night İstanbul much safer than usa even midnights u can walk alone without problem. Example the place istiklal street u walk in taksim getring more People at midnights and u can enjoy there. There so many bars and clubs. But mu favorite place Beşiktaş bcuz mostly local People going to there for drink and enjoying. İstanbul not like geröany or another eu city. İn eu life end after 8 pm but in İstanbul life starting after 8pm until morning. Every places open at midnight in İstanbul. Dont waste your time in hotel room.
Where is the safe areas in Istanbul and prices are reasonable? you mentioned Beşiktaş and where else?
Hey brother, if you think that Japan, Korea or China are close to Turkey, you are wrong. Flight time to New York and Tokyo almost the same😅
good point
Hey Bro are you still in İstanbul? İd like to my beautiful istanbul :)
Hagia Sofia is a Greek orthodox church..
Hey broski im in istanbul until sunday…. Lmk if you down to link up!
Any good clubs out there? I'm from Boston ma, looking to visit in August.
@@joegardner5386 depends what you like there’s a lot of really good electronic music events. But yeah, there’s a bunch of nightclubs open. I don’t know about the quality though. I think the best nightlife has to be Buenos Aires.
Is it cheap how much a day
The real question is, was the durum delicious or nah? @slyslife
It was good and filling
Asian following a person with a flag in tourist area is the funniest thing.
Yes police checks are common in most crowded areas in Istanbul, and it's not uncommon at all for police to be dressed as civilians too. But definitely do ask for badges or police identification if they're asking to search you. I know people who police checked their vehicles/houses and got robbed, and turned out they weren't police at all. Besides they need a court order/warrant to step foot into your place of residence anyways.
Tips to avoid getting stopped by police is blending in with the local population and not looking like the groups of people who are likely to be illegal immigrants, I imagine that's not very possible as a black person unfortunately, but it's common practice everywhere, if you do not wanna be treated as a foreigner in any country then don't look and or dress as a foreigner.
The government has been cracking down and deporting illegal immigrants heavily.
Safe travels!
❤️🇹🇷🫡
hi there... does the police showed his badge to you, or was he wearing a vest writing police on it?
He had a jacket with a police badge on it.
@@slyslife than it is legit. it looks odd but there have been several terrorist action at that area. also there are russian, sweeden, english, french consulates on that street. this why.
Were you carrying a backpack? Police seems to check a lot of people with backpacks. Cause of terrorism I guess
Hey, what's up brother, since you're traveling around Turkey?
You should see Miami of Turkey, Antalya, and visit Santa Claus's grave and church in Antalya / Demre district
Many American people do not know that Santa Claus lives on Turkish soil and that he was born and died in Demre district of Antalya.
It is a real event that Santa Claus used to throw gifts to people from the chimneys of houses and open windows.
It is a real event that he left gifts from the chimneys of houses without showing himself so that the poor people he gave gifts to would not be ashamed. I am sure you will be very pleased with your visit. I hope you have a good holiday in advance. Welcome to my country.
I will try next time. Right now it's too cold to go to Antalya.
@@slyslife Currently, the temperature in Antalya is 20℃= 68.00000℉ and the weekend temperature will be 27℃= 80.60000℉
Antalya is a city on the Mediterranean coast in the south of Turkey and one of the warmest places in Turkey. I would like you to come to Antalya and introduce Santa Claus's grave and church to your followers in America.
03:50 you are still in European Side LOL
Istanbul Is Europes Biggest/Largest City it’s Huge Massive City with a population of over 20 Million people
Why did that guy stop you? He did not look like an officer, did he stop anyone else? I wonder if Turkey targets people of color. I want to visit one day but I also want to be safe. I had a friend in grad school from Turkey his name was Can (sounds like John), hopefully it's safe and non-discriminatory country because I like Turkish people and want to try the food and see the hot air balloons etc. Great video btw!
Hi Wordcoffe101,
I’m from turkey and I can tell you that no one targets people of color. Really, Im sure you‘ll feel the opposit there. 😊
The people are usually very friendly to tourist.
Best and regads,
Ali
Hello, to clarify the issue, he is a plainclothes police officer. If you ask why the police stopped him, in recent years, due to the wars around Turkey, there has been an intense migration and illegal refugee influx to Turkey, especially Istanbul, in order to find better living conditions and jobs. For this reason, those who do not resemble Turks are checked by police teams in order to detect and deport those who pass illegally. I think it was like that. Have a nice day.
I'm white, female, no Turkish background. Love the country and the people; know it very well. Türkiye has exceptionally good ties with the African continent. They do things at eye level. Unlike the EU, France, Germany, etc. Theres an Africa Summit each year in Istanbul. Also a lot of African students. Never met anyone who did not love it. I am a good observer, and what I see, Turks don't "see" color. They don't like Arabs much. Still, they will be friendly. Arabs are aware Turks don't like them much, yet they love visiting Istanbul and Türkiye. I can assure you'll be safe. You can also read about James Baldwin and what Türkiye meant for him.
@@AliYagci-jt4fn
Not 100% correct. One Tourist guy from Kuwait got jumped on by Turks in the Market.
Hence the people from the oil rich gulf countries have stopped going to Turkiya.
I'll talk about this in another video. I was stopped multiple times on this trip.
ONCE YOU FINISH YOUR TRIPS LET US KNOW WHICH COUNTRY U ENJOYED THE MOST? TURKEY/SYRIA/LEBANON AND WHICH WAS THE CHEAPEST.. REGARDS
🤔 Interesting video topic. Thanks
You should visit aksaray, Yenikapi and yusufpasa area to find African people who use small egencies for exporting goods to their countries.
Also don't miss hadramout Yemeni restaurant or Maandeeq somali restaurant in Yusufpasa and also small Historia shopping mall nearby
I LOOOOVE my Turkey here in Anatyla away from usa 3 years 2 YEARS in Egypt and Red Sea ⛵ 6 months in Tunisia Africa never ever returning to USA ewwww stop by Antalya 😊
That mosque is once a Christian worship place converted into a Muslim building. It is beautiful inside though.
Thank you, sir.
But he didn't look like a police officer. Huh? So what is that? Did he identify himself? very suspicious..
Its not shawarma its Döner kebab döner kebab is a Original kebab from Türkiye you are very very no idea from türkiye you have better information over türkiye this is sad.🤦
I wonder if they check your passport because you're black. I would have been thrown off by that.
you're really going to put all that lemon on that sandwich? hell is wrong with you?
Yerli ve yabancıları fiyat yukseltip kandırmaktan vaz gecin artık yeter
