- The Hussars were famous for their huge "wings", a wooden frame carrying eagle, ostrich, swan or goose feathers. In the 16th century, characteristic painted wings or winged claws began to appear on cavalry shields. The most common theory is that the hussars wore the wings because they made a loud, clattering noise which made it seem like the cavalry was much larger than in reality and frightened the enemy's horses. Other possibilities included the wings being made to defend the backs of the men against swords and lassos, or that they were worn to make their own horses deaf to the wooden noise-makers used by the Ottoman and the Crimean Tatars. It seems that the wing was used not to let horse get exhausted--run too fast, making repeated charges possible.
Initially the first hussar units in the Polish-Lihuanian Commonwealth were formed by the parliament in 1503, which hired three banners of Hungarian mercenaries. Soon, recruitment also began among locals. Being far more expendable than the heavily armoured lancers of the Renaissance, the Serbian-Hungarian hussars played a fairly minor role in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth victories during the early 16th century, exemplified by the victories at Orsza (1514).
The true "winged hussar" arrived with the reforms of the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Stephen Bathory in the 1570s and was later led by the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania John III Sobieski. The hussars were the leading, or even elite, branch of cavalry in the Polish army from the 1570s until 1776, when their duties and traditions were passed on to the Uhlans by a parliamentary decree. Most hussars were recruited from the wealthier nobility (szlachta).
When Bathory was elected King of Poland and later accepted as a Grand Duke of Lithuania in 1576, he reorganized the hussars of his Royal Guard into a heavy formation equipped with a long lance as their main weapon.

So sad to see so many of my fellow Poles to be so surprised by the fact that the song is not in Polish. Lithuania was an equal part of the Union that all of us know about. It's completely normal that there were songs in that language as well.
I actually visited Lithuania a couple of weeks ago and I feel deep respect for the country and the people. I wish we had friendlier relations at a national level. I wish we could rebuild our Commonwealth on fair and equal basis as we are tied to each other by history, our common history. We are threatened by the same enemies and we share the same ideals.

This is one of those videos, where Polish and Lithuanian ((nationalists)) don't fight over the past in the comment section.
I'm a Polish nationalist and I don't argue with Lithuanians at all. I've studied history and there is nothing to argue about. We have to finally mend our idiotic childish wounds and feuds. Lithuania just like many other countries in the region have to get closer to Poland. Nobody else got any real army in the region to do any kind of deterrence. Once Lithuania and Poland constituted one country, we were brothers and sisters that live in peace and prosperity, which we have both fought for. I would love to see Lithuania joining the Visegrad Group and warming relations with Poland.
I've never heard anyone in Poland say anything negative against any Lithuanians. I know it's not the same from the other side. I also understand why. We both did things to each other that caused bad blood. I think it's time to resolve them. Lithuania was never more free and prosperous than with us.
To all Lithuanian brothers and sisters, join us in the Visegrad Group and help us build Three Seas Initiative. Let's restore our region to its former glory.

There is plenty of negativity towards lithuanians from poles even in this comment section, also I heard plenty of condescending and dismissive comments from poles in my workplace and during my visits in Poland. So I think you are being a bit disingenuous when you try to present negativity coming just from one side. Maybe you didn't experience it personally, but it's hard to miss this online.
As to the Visegrad Group, I don't think Lithuania is interested in joining. I didn't hear anyone from political elite even suggesting that. Poland and Lithuania are already part of NATO, so probably lithuanians view Visegrad Group as being redundant towards military cooperation. And Lithuania is already part of Three Seas Initiative.

If you do not know what the importance of V4 is then you are not ready to join us. That is too bad, I would love to see Lithuanians with us. NATO is slowly crumbling, only 5 countries our of 29 pays the required amount of money. European armies are rotting away and Americans are faaaaar away.
Your country would have been conquered before Americans could come here. The only army in the region that is capable of anything is the V4. Poland alone has more tanks than France, Germany and UK combined.

If NATO and EU crumbles, then first thing any Eastern European country (V4 included) will have to do is to secure any other form of alliance with Western Europe or US (preferably). I don't think anyone in Baltic States sees V4 as any meaningful form of protection or deterrence.

@Küçük maviş the only reason I see is to let history be history and to not repeat it. But where I live there are still a lot of trouble with Turks and Kurds killing each other off in the middle of the street and also hitting innocent victims. This is where my respect ends. Also we have muslim fundamentalists that target our women here in the West. I am in favor of freedom, but just wonder where it is. I just feel that my city, Antwerp, has become the new 17th century Vienna with all the multicultural trouble from which the government won't deal with. So I feel it is up to us, the people to do something about it and I just wish that for one moment, I could just bring reason into all that like to come to the West just to dominate it with their morals and religion to stop it. I just see folks turning fanatic in all senses. Western men standing up as new crusaders against islam, IS that is infiltrating in our system ... I feel we just had enough wars, but history is comdemned to repeat itself.
