======= "Winged Hussars" LYRICS =======
When the winged hussars arrived
A cry for help in time of need, await relief from holy league
60 days of siege, outnumbered and weak
Sent a message to the sky, wounded soldiers left to die
Will they hold the wall or will the city fall
Dedication
Dedication
They’re outnumbered 15 to one
And the battle´s begun
Then the winged hussars arrived
Coming down the mountainside
Then the winged hussars arrived
Coming down they turned the tide
As the days are passing by and as the dead are piling high
No escape and no salvation
Trenches to explosive halls are buried deep beneath the walls
Plant the charges there and watch the city fear
Desperation
Desperation
It’s a desperate race against the mine
And a race against time
Cannonballs are coming down from the sky
Janissaries are you ready to die?
We will seek our vengeance eye for an eye
You’ll be stopped upon the steps of our gate
On this field you’re only facing our hate
But back home the Sultan’s sealing your fate
We remember
In September
That’s the night Vienna was freed
We made the enemy bleed!
Stormclouds, fire and steel
Death from above make their enemy kneel
Shining armour and wings
Death from above, it’s an army of kings
We remember
In September
When the winged hussars arrived

In 1683, during the siege of Vienna, 140,000 soldiers of the Ottoman Empire were tearing the city's defences apart. They were driven away when a relief force, comprising the famed Winged Hussars of Poland, arrived to save the city.

The fact that Ottoman numbers were superior is a total inaccuracy and biased sources. In a logic sense with some history knowledge and a contemplating over sources, we get the right numbers which is even
Always fight 40:1
@Samuel Kłosowski that's an exaggeration on a dream level lol. A lot of sources mentions that the numbers were very similar with some puts holy leauge numbers higher, some the opposite with small margin
@@rumipraetorian9716let us hear your sources then
@Samuel Kłosowski this battle is very crucial, a turning point in history. It concerns christians, europeans and politics even to this day, so the imaginary numbers given by european sources are highly suspicious and biased. When you said over 300k men I thought u were on drugs and wouldn't even reply but I write this to wider audience. Ottomans had several garrisons and the safavid front in need of manpower so gathering over 150k men was impossible, and these numbers are the size of the army but not actual numbers during the combat in Vienna, a part of the initial army was lost during the march plus didn't even engage and were stationed on the route. Some european and predominantly turkish sources gives the numbers for ottomans 100k-120k and holy leauge 99-100k

I honestly think that we may be seeing an opportunity for horse-based units on the modern or near-future battlefield. More likely in a recon/dragoon style, however they could maybe employ the occasional cavalry charge in the way modern infantry occasionally use the bayonet charge.

Fun fact: One night, during the Siege of Vienna, The Ottomans were digging an underground tunnel in order to get to the city from the ground. But the bakers, who woke up early for work, listened noises under the ground, so they call the city guards and fortunately, they saved the city delaying the Ottomans and giving time to the Winged Hussars. Good choice!
@@Sabaton well my day has just been made :D

For me it’s the christmas truce
This, d-day, Caesar at Alesia, Alexander at gaugamela, or a day at Stalingrad. It would be horrifying but fascinating
Stefan Karaszewski was a Polish soldier who alone stopped for 2 hours an advance of 60 Nazi tanks on 5/09/1939 allowing his fellow soldiers to retreat safely. Fighting alone he destroyed 7 tanks and 1 motorvehicle and killed 11 Nazi soldiers. When he ran out of ammunition he took his own life. When Germans eventually saw only one dead body of Polish soldier they were in shock because they thougth they were fighting against a group of soldiers. Even one Polish soldier can organize a Thermopylae battle. Chwała bohaterom!
He was very clearly a FPS game protagonist

The sound of the wooden wings spooked the ottomans horses and caused them to run off
@@coconut_1219 No, this sound can't be heard during hussars charge but the sight of wings and long pennants at the end of lances can scare a horse and his owner. Wings were used also to protect hussars backs from swords and lassos.
Not to mention the fact that the hussars were part of the largest cavalry charge in history, 18000 men of which 2-3000 were the winged hussars leading the charge. Facing that would scare anyone.

When you singlehandedly save Europe twice but all you get remembered for is losing in WW2
*Sad Polish noises*
Ow. That indeed hurts.
Less than a year after the Polish republic was freed from Russian control, with interwar Poland still finding her footing after years of oppression by her neighbors, they managed to beat back the Red Army as the Communists attempted to join the uprising in Germany. With the backing of the Red Army there is little doubt that the German uprising would have been overtaken by Soviet backed Communists rather than the Weimar Republic that ended up forming following the uprising. We've got Poland to thank for checking the spread of toxic Soviet Communism in Europe.
The sad irony of it all being that in turn Poland herself would later on be subjected to it for decades afterwards.
It is a terrible shame the West allowed Poland to fall behind the Iron Curtain.
A Polish friend of mine has a saying "For most of the world WWII ended in 1945. For us in the East it didn't end until 1991."

Actually learned more history from Sabaton than in actual history class
We're complementary lessons :)
@@Sabaton I learned so much from your music, every time I hear a song like this I just have to go to wikipedia and read about what happened
It gives off the same vibe as the assassin’s creed games in terms of history learned from them
Maybe you should stop sleeping in class

They back babbbby go Poland!
Poland has decided to name their F35 program after the Hussars.
I have a friend who listens to this every day in class with earbuds. They have protection on so I can't hear them but he can. He watches the lyrics video along with it. So I thought to myself, well why does this guy like Sabaton so much? I then CZcams searched it and I ended up loving this song. Great powerful vocals, a syncopated rhythm guitar, wall of sound-like synth and bass, and beautiful fills on the drums. This combined with the poetic lyrics can only mean one thing. It's power metal, and at its finest.
Welcome on board, then!
Boi you better thank him now

@E you're both horribly unfunny people
@E who the hell cares, this is a useless argument over a pfp
My German history teacher told bullshit about the battle of Vienna 1683, he said, Prinz Eugen von Savoyen had command and was the liberator of Vienna.
I am of Polish decent and so I had fight for the truth and argued with him about the fact, that Jan Sobieski III was commander in chief and the liberator of Vienna.
My teacher wanted to give me a bad school mark then....
BUT THEN THE WINGED HUSSARS ARRIVED!
You should have pulled an objection at the start and this would be perfect comment
at least u tried
Respect to you for fighting for the truth my brother, this is what Poland stands for 🇵🇱💪🏻🦅
@Vlad The Impaler Pirnz Eugen von Savoyen was a very successfull and important commander in the fights after the battle of vienna. No doubt about that.
@Partha MakOthna Thank you, but it happened nearly 30 years ago, the teacher is in pension already for a long time now... ;-)
it was 340 years ago, guys, on the night of september 12th, 1683, polish soldiers came down and saved vienna. happy Winged Hussars day, people!
Crazy to think we went from riding horses and fighting with lances and swords to nuclear bombs that can annihilate entire cities in such a short period of time.
COWABUNGA IT IS!!!
The beauty of Sabaton is that they will make you patriotic for whatever country is involved in what they sing about.

@@Mauricio_Gimenez more like Mr europe
Aren't we all European brothers through? We share culture, history, christianity as religion.
@@DanilPrytaliuk eh, it isn't actually right. Expecially with Eastern Europe
Only Problem its totally wrong...it wasnt just polish husars who fought the ottomans off, it was an Army of austrian soilders, soilders of several parts of the holy roman empire, venetians and poles. Sure the poles did contribute a good Part of the army, but it was by far not all. Probably about half, but still, without then vienna mostly likely would have fallen, because nobody than sobieski did want to attack from the kahlenberg...its his victory and the other commanders, Like Karl von Lothringen who accepted his lead and trusted him deserve respect as well...it wasnt easy, there was alot of mistrust and bad blood between the europeans, but in this important moment in history, they stuck together and defeated the enemy...
