36 year old Sharon Korir was diagnosed with obstetric fistula after giving birth to her second child. A few weeks after being discharged from hospital with her baby, Sharon realised she had a problem when passing urine and feacal matter. She had no control and the passage routes seemed interchanged. This was a traumatic experience and she had to undergo a corrective surgery and many months of doctors’ visits until she got healed. She later founded the "Save a woman Fistula Foundation" which she says is a safe space for Fistula survivors to share, and encourage each other as well as seek solutions to their condition.

This is one of the most painful interviews I've ever watched. The government needs to do so much more than what it's currently doing in regards to availing fistula testing and treatment services.

Mothers go through hell and back for our kids. Think about the pregnancy for 9 months, birthing esp if its CS,feeding. After i saw what my wife went through when giving birth to my daughter i have another level of respect for mothers. Mums rock. They are the best. Hug your mum while you still can.Sharon pole sana and am glad you are ok. You are beautiful in and out for helping other women.

I suffered from recto vaginal fistula (RVF) for 15 yrs, after birth it took like a year to know what am suffering from, i couldn't afford to get a surgery by then and they were no free camps by that time , in 2014 i went to KNH were Amref were conducting a free camp and Surgery and after 2 months of clinics and reviews i managed to be booked and underwent a surgery performed by Dr.Khisa, it took me 6 months to heal am 95% healed but i just thank God for that
My fistula was the type that the stool was coming from Vagina, i wasn't leaking urine but had no control when it came to farting or when i had loose stool, it could just come out by itself and from my vagina and when you feel like passing stool and i delayed it like for 30mins or 1 hour it could find its way out by using my vagina
Infection was the order of the day
i thank God and thank AMREF and KNH for they restored my dignity back
Thanks Sharon from sharing it's just brought back memories from the past

This is grounds for suing your doctor...he/she should have been there early to either make an episiotomy to prevent 4th degree obstetric tears, or should have recommended a Caesarian Section from the start because of the size of the baby vis-a-vis the mother's pelvic region. Its the reason why so many professionally employed Kenyan women simply save money for ages and then plan for an elective CS from the get-go, in order not to have to deal with these types of horrible complications.
The most telling thing about this whole subject is that a study was done some time ago among female gynecologists in the West and the results showed that more than 85% of them do elective CS rather than go the natural childbirth route!! Keep in mind that these are the professionals who have studied medicine and fully comprehend how natural childbirth can wreak havoc on a woman's body.
