How to create a dark, moody and fading background in Keyshot 7

- In this tutorial i'll show you how to create a dark and moody ground which fades in to the background color in Keyshot 7 Pro.
UPDATE FOR NEWER KEYSHOT VERSIONS:
Since the introduction of geometry nodes in Keyshot, the node setup has changed a bit.
- In Keyshot 7 you have a ground material onto which you add your plastic material as a label.
- In newer Keyshot versions you will have a new node in front of you ground material with the inputs: "Surface, Geometry and Label" - keyshot calls it the "root node". I will call it the "material output node" because thats basically what it does. It collects all the information and outputs it into the viewport.
So instead of adding the label to the ground material like in KS7 you add the label to the "output node". The rest will work as expected.
- Dont get confused by the name of the "root"/"output node". If you change the name of your material in the material tab - the name of this node will change as well. So if you followed the tutorial, the node is called "ground" - because the material is called "ground". You'll end up with two connected nodes called "ground" - which might be a bit confusing at first. The one on the left is a "ground shader" and the one on the right is the "output node" called "ground".
Hope this helps :)

Holy shit, how do you only have thousands of subscribers. This video has more knowledge than I’ve ever learned from a $3000/semester university course. Subscribed.
Really cool. I'm new to Keyshot. I use Fusion for product design and needed something to add realism to my models so we could work on Marketing parallel to prototyping. Tuts like this make it all possible. Thankyou.
You're fantastic my friend. All of your tutorials are great and i've learned a lot till now.Thx for sharing your knowleged with us!
niiiice! I was trying to figure out how to do a fade to white, so I reversed the process and it worked!
Great tutotial! you should do a series of "from the bases to pro" something like that haha, is hard to find good tutorial of keyshot.
Wow! Amazing! Thanks!
Brilliant! Thanks!
i love your well detailed tutorials, please make more. you are the best
Amazing, Outstanding. Thank you very much Sir for this incredible knowledge.
woooooowwwww!!!!! THANK YOU!!! U ARE THE BEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for this tutorial, it was very helpful! I have recreated the ground plane and made a very nice rendering with it 👍🏻
Super Tutorial! Wusste gar nicht dass man so coole Sachen mit Keyshot machen kann :)
Haha thats amazing man, didnt know keyshot so powerful, im strugelling to some metal materials for planes, not succesfull at all. Cannot get the reflections right, but this is very cool you showed me i can do more. Thanks
The Best tutorial i have seen for Keyshot. Great work man!
Thanks man!
Awesome tutorial! Feel sorry that you don't make now videos - you are TOP!
Thanks for the tutorial Alexander! It was very helpful!
WoW … this is awesome tutorial, simple, fast and easy!
It's will be a great idea if you come up with a scene series. Where we as a students can learn more about the potential of keyshot. Thanks for the video. Great work
With Keyshot 8 you can do basically everything when it comes to still images. The only limiting factor is knowledge and render time 😅
What scenes would you like to learn?
Perfect video man !! Thank you so much for it
Thanks a lot for the video, a m a z i n g !!!!love your tuto style - is short, easy to follow and only useful info ,thank you again :)
Looks great! Thanks for sharing
Thank's mate for the tutorial, now I know how to use the material graph properly :P
Nice work, keep the tutorials coming!
Amezing tutorial is ever seen 😍❤️
helped my project a lot! thank you very much
waiting for your next post :)
That was a great tutorial. Thanks for sharing
Great tutorial! This style is the final argument I needed to give Keyshot a go. BTW Im your first follower on Artstation 🤘🏻
This is an amazing tutorial!
Really good tips here, thanks for posting! Wish I knew about a lot of these a while ago : )

Your amazing mate!
Really good tutorial. The final is really cool. Dont you wana make tutorial about lighting techniques? :) This would be really helpful. And Thanks for this one! ;)
Long live Don Keyshot!
Moj kr di bhai tunee to
thats awesome
Perfect!
coool stuff
thank you so much ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ
This is brilliant, thank u so much !! Could you share the links to download the material, please!!
my material graph doesnt look like that and whatever i do i cant get my environment scenery. i only have blank gray scene
Great tutorial, thank you!
You can also drag the radial gradient directly to the opacity of the ground material, right? Instead of dragging it to the opacity of both of the plastic materials and having to use the Color Composite node.
Thanks! Yes this is possible as well and would clean up the material graph a bit. Although the ground plane won’t catch shadows outside of the radial gradient anymore. Which could be useful sometimes.
Cool, thanks :)
hellow there, hope you are doing good. Actually , i want a video of how to make a rendered picture with a sharp background with all real time details. hope to have it soon from you.
thank you for the tutorial, awesome stuff.
Probably something has changed in the latest versions, I am not able to connect two materials as you do at 3:16 any idea on how to do that?
Great tutorial! Are you planning to go on with more tutorials? Would be nice!
Sim Klem yes definitely. Starting next week I’ll try to upload weekly tutorials.
When I am going in edit material graph for the geometry there comes another material which is attached to the ground plane. Please help me what to do now as in your 3:19 there is no material previously attached to ground plane.
That's why keyshot is expensive. Looks easy to use but its complexity is so powerful.
I get the exact same wet Floor like yours but when I import any model, The model gets Bright White in color, no matter what the material is ... its just white Glow on the model.... how do i fix it ?
I have the exact same issue, did you find how to fix it?
@@kasiedy i had the same issue.... any solution?
@@Soljarag5 Could it be that you downloaded the HDRI as a EXR-file? Realized that he had it as an HDR-file and it seems to work better.
@@esaa7256 yup that was the issue, thanks!
Great Tutorial!!!! any idea why when i use that HDR , it blows out every model in the scene??
Please. Check that you download the .hdr and not a .ext file :)
@@alexanderkaula thanks!! Well that was a dumb mistake on my part ;). I ended up on just using my own hdr... But good to finally know what I did wrong
Greate video, very nice work!! working on 9 version as well.
Noob question: why when import new file "grunge" texture disappear? tnks
The scene size might adapt to the new object. The texture will not disappear but the new scene size makes it look super small. You might have to change the scaling of the texture.
top!!!
thks a lot
oh dear.. lost you at "add utility node - color to number" my node doesn't link automatically to the texture map and Plastic.. and when i drag it manually to how it is linked (similar to yours) , the plane just turns super glossy.. Any alternatives or help? Also could u let em know ur set scene units please? Thank you so much, hope someone sees this..I'm using keyshot 9 btw and my set scene unit is currently in mm
yes i have the same problem in keyshot 9
this is imposible in keyshot 9, change all the interface. :(
it's works fine with 9.1 pro
Same issue here! Did you find any solution? Thanks!
@@malegonyabo descargue ks7 😎
In the Videos Description you’ll find the way to work with KS8 and newer.
@@alexanderkaula Could you please post a picture of the material graph in newer versions? I cant add the label to the output node as your description says! Thank you!
Uffff NICEEEE!!!!!
hi thanks, you said in the vedio i put all thing that you need for this vedio in a file, i can not find it please help, i can not download it from that links
You will only need the poliigon material and the HDRI that are linked below
Very intresting ground material, so every texture map on the mentioned website comes with the normal maps and the specular, bump ones ?
Yes all textures on texture haven come with all the maps. If you check different websites make sure it’s „PBR“.
@@alexanderkaula thank you so much , looking forward to see more Amazing content.
this is just crazy
creating a new material in material graph, how do you know where to link each thing? very good tutorial!
Normally the maps are named: diffuse, gloss, speculates, normal and displace. So you know what type of map it is and thus you know where to plug it. :)
thank youuuu sir , please can you make a tuto how to creat " glitter texture " i dont know how to do it and i cant fin any tutorial on youtube . thank you again sir
What exactly do you understand by „glitter texture“? Do you have an example?
Doesn't work in Keyshot 11 this material with ur settings... sad
Hi Alexander, i've done with this tutorial and everything is fine.
but the problem is why when i import my 3dm object, the plane is broken (no texture).
hmm, hope you answer thank's :))
It’s because the scaling will be switched to the 3dm part. Check the scaling of the textures. You might have to increase them by a lot. :)
damn dude
this is what i want to make
can you make a tutorial of PBR work Flow in Keyshot?
Muito bom!!
Is it possible to remove these "sparkles" from the ground during the animation?
plastic material doesnt touch to ground
what is the unity of the geometry?
Helo alexander, I'd like to know if you could a tutorial of exterior and interior scene for architecture with animation tutorial in Keyshot pro 9.
In the mean time check @samdoesdesign he has some tutorials that might help you out
Men, pass the scene archive please:(
Hi, im using keyshot 9 and when you start with the material graph and create the Plastic tab, you then connect it as label 1 onto ground. well, i cant as I already have Ground material (first), then ground (after GM) so It doesnt accept the connection to ground from the Plastic tab
Hi, I've updated the information regarding this problem in the video description. Hope it helps!
@@alexanderkaula Thankyou ! Amazing really. I dont know how tha hell you got to find all this scheme haha . Hope to see some tyre tutorial soon as mine dont look as good as I wish ...
Hi @ cant connect the plastic Material with the ground material any solutions?
What version of keyshot are you using?
Make sure to drag the node to the little plus of the ground material.
@@alexanderkaula keyshot 8
They changed the way the labels work in KS8. You will have to drag and drop the node to the most right node. For the plane this would be called „plane material“
Hi. It works great until I import my model which completely messes up the ground materials for some reason. Any idea?
When importing the scene will adapt to the models size. Check the scaling of your textures :)
Am I the only one who can't sign up to the Poliigon site ? Their confirmation e-mail comes up empty.
Can you upload the keyshot scene? thanks!
Hi sir,
How much take time in this all setting
If I will do five seconds videos?
Not sure what you mean... render time? That highly depends on your system.
hey i followed everything but im getting fireflies, like a lot, how can i fix that?
Fireflies are a real problem in keyshot. And there is not a simple solution to the problem sadly. You could turn down the roughness of the material that gives you the most fireflies. And see it it helps.
Links are broken

Thanks for the input. I’ll check and update ASAP.
was that from apex?
Which 3d software do you use
Im using rhino3d and Blender
