Recently moving from Jersey to Pennsylvania and will be doing alot of back and forth traveling. My choices are simple, used Honda civic Hatchback or used Toyota Corolla hatchback. But my question to you if you can help, is what do you think of used Hybrid vehicles such as a used Toyota Prius hatchback? Would be great on gas but are they worth the reliably for the buck

EV's will become viable when they can do 450-500 range minimum, can fill up in under 5 minutes, can be charged everywhere in the country, can still do 450-500 range when 10-15 years old, don't cost any more the an ICE equivalent. When they can do these then they will match ICE cars for convenience and be a viable alternative for most people.

Electric vehicles do serve a good purpose when it comes for short city driving. But not good when it comes to long distance driving. That's why I think it is very important that the market should allow it's consumers to have a choice on what powertrain they want thier car to be. Since end of the day, it's the customer's choice to know what's good for them. Not businesses, and certainly not the government.

The hard truth...CHINA is leading the way in EV tech. They are 'all in' on EV.
Example: NIO brand uses 'battery swap' tech...3 minutes to remove the discharged battery and install a charged battery. (wow, less than 9 minutes!).
Can still conventionally charge + option to swap batteries, and even swap to larger capacity/longer range batteries. The NIO vehicle can also be purchased WITHOUT the battery for lower initial cost. Either way, battery swap also ensures that as battery tech evolves, you will always have latest tech battery.
No need to scrap a NIO vehicle due to 'faulty battery'.
Amazing tech available...if political pandering wasn't a 'thing'. NIO...worth a look to see how far EV's have come aside from Tesla

    • @deller5924
      @deller5924 Před 29 dny +1

@@elgar6743 It's much longer than 3 mins....about 15 mins. I've seen a reel on that. There are drawbacks as well, that's why Tesla gave up that idea of swapping batteries. Actually, Tesla is leading the EV technology...and China is knocking off Tesla's ideas and technologies as much as possible. But for Tesla, China wouldn't be as advanced as it is now in terms of EV technologies. Speaking of quality, both Tesla and the Chinese brands suck. That's why in the long term, Japan and South Korea will be leading.

Thats about how long it currently takes for a pit stop at a gas station. As other's have said though, you can charge it overnight and get 35+ miles of range on a 120v outlet. a Full battery on a 220v charger. Remember CO2 accounts for 0.037% of the atmosphere... it's probably not the cause of global warming. Especially since the amount of co2 produced goes up every year despite the politicians laws trying to limit its production. Plus if the amount of co2 produced was even holding steady the planet would be heating up way faster if it were the cause of retaining solar radiation known as the greenhouse effect. The strictest limits on co2 production on the planet are from the kyoto accords and even they are only speculating to possibly lower the global temperature by 0.1C over the next 50 years. We are in the technological state where hybrid vehicles make sense. Battery technology isn't advanced enough to support an EV conversion to the norm. Hybrids would promote advancement of the technology while not putting people in a position where they have an impractical vehicle for common use. Especially in a place like the US where we travel very long distances on a regular basis, far more than people in the EU and Asia. EV's don't provide the kind of distance required in a country like the US.

I disagree, I think EVs are plenty for 90% of the population. People way over value the possible range not realizing how little they actually drive. The average American drives 14,260 miles a year; that's only about 40 miles in a day. Even when people go on road trips, they are rarely over 200 miles which nearly any EV on the road could handle. Think it this way, for you to need a charging station you'd need to go on a 4 hour drive. How often do you do that?
I think people are way overly concerned about charging times when if you charge at home the car is always topped up. If it's charged at home you'll never need a charging station and it's got the full range before any road trips. Unlike with gas where before any road trip you immediately go to the gas station.

As you probably already know.... EV maker, " NIO ", has been and is doing, just that...battery swapping.
The hard truth...CHINA is leading the way in EV tech. They are 'all in' on EV.
NIO brand uses 'battery swap' tech...3 minutes to remove the discharged battery and install a charged battery.
Amazing tech available, worldwide...if political pandering wasn't a 'thing'. NIO is leading the way.

If all cars become EVs weighing over 4500 pounds and the parking structures also have to support charging infrastructure, I wonder how many will either collapse or be forced to reduce the number of parked cars on each level? Having a collapsed parking garage full of burning EV batteries capable of melting steel girders under a high-rise apartment building may not be ideal.

For EVs to become the new standard it must be similar or better as cheaper than ICV. If it’s far more flexible it can be more expensive too. That’s a price/benefit decision. But as long as ICV is more flexible and cheaper it will stay the chosen standard .
