    Very nice success!
    Also, huge SSG!
    My SSG is only a pencil, lol... it’s def the slowest growing JM of mine; so prolly several years until I can layer it.
    Gonna separate 6 San Jose juniper air-layers soon tho... maybe Oct or Nov.

      Thank you for your comment! Glad to hear it's helpful! Curious, did you use a pot with soil or plastic bag with moss for the air layer for Elm?

      @@MomijiEn I used a white plastic shopping bag, with a few small holes in it for air / dripping. Sphagnum moss. Checked today. lots of roots and SUPER HAPPY!

    Very nice job ,did you air seal the black containers to retain moisture or you just left them opened all the time like that ,and how did you water them regularly ?

    did you use rooting hormone when you started the airlayers? or just trust the sphagnum akadama mix?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 3 lety

      Yes I always rooting hormone. I used powered one in the past. This year, I am testing Clonex.

    Would you recommend keeping a newly potted air layer indoors for the first winter? (very cold winter) or should I try to set it into dormancy with the parent plant?

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 3 lety +1

      Either way is fine as long as you can protect it from getting frozen!

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 2 lety

      Nice! I usually wait for 3 months or so (smaller air layers) to make sure it develops enough roots to sustain after the separation!

    how deep do you generally go on your cuts for air layering? I see some take the bark off and then just scrape the wood, and others really go into it. ie. branch starts off at 1/2 inch and the wood left in the center is 1/4 taking off about 1/8 all around or more.

    • @MomijiEn
      @MomijiEn  Před 3 lety +1

      I would usually remove the bark off then remove the thin yellow/greenish layer (cambium) to expose the white wood. I may scrape the wood a bit but not too much to avoid cutting off the water transportation line.
