- We're doing a PURGE! After 9 years of accumulating gear for adventure, we're going back to basics and doing a major edit of our 'stuff'. Remember... It doesn't take a lot of gear to enjoy the great outdoors. The more efficient you are, the more time you'll have to explore.
Are you sitting on a bunch of stuff? Consider extending its life by donating it to Gear Forward. Gear Forward works with youth organizations across the US to get outdoor equipment to the kids who need it most. Check out their work here: www.gearforward.org/
Thank you for watching!

Love you guys. The garage has been a perpetually procrastinated project. camping stuff, youth sports stuff, who the heck knows stuff, old wedding stuff (4 daughters), etc. My stuff is still useful, my wife's stuff should all go to goodwill ;-). Now that all the kids are finally married off, 2022 is the year!!! I honestly never thought about all the kids and families that don't have the means to enjoy the activities that we have been blessed to experience.
It’s a great feeling!
Helpful tip, store your sleeping bags and self inflating sleeping pads opened up (not in a compressed state) your sleeping bag will last longer and maintain it's temperature rating over time. Your pad will inflate faster when you get to camp and set up for the night. It only takes a minute or two to stuff them into their bags before you leave for your trip.
I will never give up my Coleman-gassie-pump up stove or lantern! 🤣
Me neither! All three of them.
just did a major purge of all my outdoor gear. wish I had known about gear forward when I did. I sold, gifted or tossed out literally half my inventory of truck camping, backpacking, hunting, shooting gear and a ton of redundant tools. Feels great to be stream lined and organized.
Going through older camping equipment is like Christmas all over! You find gear that has great memories attached to it and it makes you feel so good!
Michael and Cory I have to say that out of the many youtube channels I follow, you are the the most transparent, even when it is to your dismay, I really appreciate that along with all you teach and show, you allow us to see that for the most part we all go through the same learning process, mistakes, good and poor judgement, etc. Michael I poke fun at you sometimes but both of you are just very real people. Thanks!
Thanks for the share. I really liked the Gear Forward program....i wish there would be something like that in Canada...
I'm going through a purge myself. At 72 my long backpacking treks are over and I'm now collecting overland camping gear; and I will try to keep the gear collection to a minimum. After several trips I believe my essentials list is fine tuned. My attic and man cave were congested with 60+ years of stuff, most of it sentimental. I donated 22 backpacks that were collected from five continents. My wife and are also downsizing our lives.
I like that Corrie is in the video more. More of that please.
Is it just me or has she lost some weight?
@@fastlanecarcarellc3608 - I was thinking the same, she looks great.
MORE CORRIE!! ❤️
pro trick: you can watch series on flixzone. Been using them for watching loads of movies these days.
@Royal Kairo definitely, I have been watching on flixzone for since november myself =)
Why can’t I have these folks as neighbors!? I’d go crazy at their yard sale.
Thanks for the Gear Forward resource.
Thanks for the tips, especially highlighting the gear forward organization. Well done!
Great video (as usual), love that you’re donating. I wouldn’t have gotten to camp as a kid if others hadn’t provided gear and opportunities through church. Great memories! 👍
I’m just now getting into overlanding/camping/backpacking and the internet is such a helpful resource to not get so much clutter and gear. As much as new gear is fun, it just gets overwhelming and discouraging.
I mention backpacking because those individuals keep just the essentials. Much of the gear is compact and multipurpose. I’m trying to take this mentality into regular car camping.
Gear Forward, I applaud your program! Overland Bound, I need to do this same thing. I have a ton of gear that would be better served by others. Thanks for doing this great vid!
Hey guys!
The gear forward thing sounds great, going to check it out, thanks!
Great team work! ❤️👍🏻 Now this video is what is all about...the wife is the organizer. My hubby buys...and I organize when we go overland base camping. He is the muscle...and I am the preparer from food to whatever. Nothing is perfect...but it is so much easier when we use our gifts of wisdom to compromise and how-to’s.
Awesome clip guys...was looking at my garage this morning as well...time to repack...nice to see Corrie !
As a new family to the lifestyle, this video is great. We've only been amassing gear for 9 months and I can already see how the accumulation of gear and equipment gets out of hand. I have a shed that is used primarily for Beach and Camping gear. I have to master the art of eliminating things we outgrow, or dont use.
REALLY enjoyed this video. I’ve done several of these “clean outs” and it feels SO good to have it all organized, doesn’t it? I didn’t know about Gear Forward, I will DEFINITELY be donating!!
Awesome, I have done the same thing ten times and I still have more to go. Great video you guy's !!!!!!!!
Excellent info. Love your sense of humor 😃
I love that you donated so much stuff! What a great way to get the next generation involved.
Hilarious! And very timely! I just dumped to large crates of gear on the garage floor because our son needed those crates for moving. And out rolled stuff I had totally forgotten about. What a mess. I needed inspiration and encouragement and this video was perfect. Oh, and it was too funny to see the interaction between you two. LOL! Definitely showing this to my wife (though I may regret it.) Thanks for the tip on Gear Forward. I'll definitely be contacting them. And one tip, I used to use black plastic cargo crates/boxes like you Plano or whatever it is. Wherever I could I have switched to clear ones so I can see what is inside. Great job, Corrie! ;-)
Great video. Yes....right there with ya. I have been a gear junky for years and have way too much camping stuff, and then when I met my bf, we now have double stuff. We soooooo need to do this. Good job and great motivation.
Hi nice to see corrie in front of the camera again .what a great cause to donate to well done folks true spirit of outdooring👍
More Corrie. Now I need to get busy purging gear. It does stack up.
Love your guys dynamics. More of these vids.
Excellent video, thanks to both of you! Very entertaining and a lot of great info.
Thanks for posting this video. This is actually a very important topic since in most videos the vehicles are way overloaded as to CCC and with stuff that they do not use but it feels good to have onboard. This extra weight might also contribute to some of the breakdowns that occur off road. Unfortunately my budget does not allow me to purchase every gadget that I see on the youtube off road videos, but even so, I found that I was carrying a lot of items that were duplicates and not essential. I was surprised to see Corrie? do all of the talking, she is a natural and should appear in future videos.
I need to do this badly. It’s amazing how much you accumulate. Thanks for the inspiration.
O love this video. I need to make this in my gear room. TKS.
Great video, a lot of good advice. Those footlockers are a good size and stack well. Now that I received my member kit, I slapped the White OLB sticker on my Cold Weather Footlocker, and the Orange OLB on my Warm Weather Footlocker. Now I just need a red for my medical and a green for my tactical and I'll be OCD coordinated.
Did the same thing before my last big trip the summer of 18. Liberating.
Divide and conquer, I think Corrie is the voice of reason. Good job!
Great Video... This is my goal in the next few months. Hope to see you both soon.
Off topic but Corrie your black polish is awesome.
My gear is taking over the garage. Remember the toy puzzle with one piece missing and you had to slide everything around to win. That my garage when I go to work on something. Thanks for the video.
Super cool organization. Thanks for sharing guys.
Awesome. Lisa and i just did the exact same thing. Except we’re keeping all the gear we use in the truck and trailer full time. The old gear on our shelves we should probably donate.
Awesome vid as usual. Nice to see more of Corie again as well.
Awesome video guys! Very helpful.
I’m enthusiastic about my old tundra but seeing all of your junk makes me glad I am mostly a backpacker. 😀
genuine & humble 👍🏻👍🏻
Haha love the dramatic intro 👌🏼😄
Used to shop when depressed. Got a lot of gear at low prices. Have donated a bunch, but still have a long way to go. Good to find other places to donate to.
A great video. Thanks.
Great Video, i have the same problem.
current solution is to pack more than we would ever need.
This was inspirational giving the current circumstances. Do you plan on doing another video as an update?
I really like this video. It makes my mind feel better when I see it. I want to shoot as good as you do.. I always cheer you on.
one backpack for every one going and car having its own kit.it was nice both of youand a fellow ham at sand Halo Jamberry 73 keep the skid plates down Windows up and looking forward
Looks like all perfectly good stuff to me.
HEY dibs on the hand pump, gas powered lantern thingy!!!!!
Hey always enjoy you two together. Corrie, looks like you've been fitness training ;-)
Camp Forward looks like a great organization and program!
I kept waiting for the Coleman lantern to show up on a shelf :)
Love to watch your videos. Have enjoyed camping for over 65 years. You're a cute couple keep it up.
Thank you!
I did this with all my gear a few weeks ago. I had a keep and discard pile. Discard pile was pretty big. Didn't feel like dealing with it do I just lit it on fire in my yard. The propane cans and old tires burned for 2 days!
Great video. Thanks Corrie for getting in front of the camera.
Appreciated the point about how gear needs change over time... and that's okay! Just reorganize and reduce to meet your current needs.
What would you guys know about the changing needs of gear? ;) Big hugs to you and the family! -Corrie
Diggin the Flag nor Fail, thought that was DLB for a second! :)
Not an easy task but one that needs to be done once in a while. I tend to buy quality items that last. Much of my stuff is vintage but all works well. I try not but buy on spur of the moment and differentiate from wants and needs.
Love the channel!! Great seeing Corrie in the video! I just got my first off-road rig after a extensive search. Please check out It’s a Bugs Life! Love to go on one of your expeditions some day.
OB 12140 here, I just spent three hours in the garage doing the same thing, then fired up the CZcams and saw this.
Hahaha! Great minds!
"Kids are for throwing under the bus." ha ha ha when in doubt, blame the kids.
On the 'You do not need all the equipment" point, once you have done the forums and talked to people in the field, you can look at purchasing items used.
Michael if you didn't know the valve for your fire sprinklers behind your gear shelf is in the off position. Maybe you have it that way for a reason but if you were unaware thought you'd want to know. Always feels good to condense the gear down to the essentials!
This was great, I like when she tells you no. Lol. Sounds like my wife .
I’m sure we all would like some of your used gear ! 😜
Funny I was purging my gear today! I got rid of nothing... 😂
I know it’s an old video but could someone answer a couple of questions on the gazelle tents.
1) how do the colours hold over time, do they fade? Does one hold up better than the other?
2) I’m travelling as a couple, do you personally prefer the t3 or t4 for couples?
3) what colour do you prefer? Any pros and cons with both colours?
Thanks 🙏
Thank you for watching! 🙌🏼 1. No fade so far, we’ve had our T4 orange for 2.5 years now. 2. T3 mostly for its pack down size. 3. No preference on our end, but the orange is *slightly* more optimal in sun. Hope this helps!
You guys have great videos
The cruiser will be much happier without some of that weight too!
What brand of camping chairs do you use on your over landing trips. The chairs we currently carry are comfortable but are long and take up a lot of space. Appreciate your insight.
Ill take anything your tossing away just started overlanding i love handmedowns
Best comment, and I love my kids, but "kids are for throwing under the bus."
I feel you on the Coleman lanterns. Somehow I have become a hoarder of them. They pop up on marketplace for 10-30 bucks and and I can’t say no to them. I also use an old model 425 stove that you have to pump up just like the lanterns. Not the latest and greatest but I have fun with it
GREAT VIDEO!!!
If you're parting with the plano bow case, I'm interested....fair price...and I'm local lol
would a liked to see the sorting process.. why you choose one thing over another
Great video. I could use some gear lol
Overlanding Marie Kondo style. LOL
Matt Tolman I was just going to post an answer like this. 👍🏽
Totally. 😂
Does it spark joy?
Beat me to it. HA
I held each item and said thank you, then whispered to it, “I set you free...” ✨🌈🧙🏻♀️
I'll take whatever you wanna give away. I still use a ground tent with my 95 yj. Took backseat out and have just enough room for a 3 day trip.
So does the equipment that you put on the shelves go inside of the three Plano cases that you suggest using? OB 6811
Yes!
Michael, you MUST keep the Coleman white gas camp stove and lantern. It proves you are a true camper.
I need to do this, but until then, I just haul an entire bed full of junk to the camp. 50% of which I never use lol
Marie Kondo has struck again!
I love my big ole 3-burner coleman white gas stove…..but whoa…..it likes the gas
How do you like the Gazelle T3? I want to get a T4 but it just won’t fit into my Jeep well, whereas I think I can fit the T3 ok. Thanks
Love the T3 - great tent!
My Fravoite part of this whole Video is that she is wearing a Flag nor Fail VEST ROB Bailey for the win lol
Great tips. I'd love to get involved with the kids trying to go camping without being involved in Boy Scouts, does gear on assist with that as well? One of the facets of Overlanding I enjoy is the constant pursuit of the fastest most efficient minimalist gear set up, awesome tips.
Sir William Goes Hey there! Gear Forward helps all sorts of organizations working with kids. Looks like we will be donating to a school in South SF via Gear Forward. They can connect you to a local org to reduce shipping. Reach out to them! 🙌🏼 (We all need to have tacos again soon! 😜)
@@corrielenn thanks will do. And yes Tacos are life!! 🌮😍
Hi guys , I see a small septer water tank ,what's the brand of gray containers ? Looking for something more compact then the blue ones.. Thanks Wayne
Would be cool to some of the models you have built.
Save the egg container !!!!!
What i would give just to have those black plastic boxes lol
Great funny video
New subscriber here from the Philippines
HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH "No" hahahhaha shes the boss!
Marie Kondo, STRIKES AGAIN!
I'm coming from motorcycle camping/overlanding, and all my gear fits in
I pack everything but the spare tire and truck tool bag in the double cab section of my truck. I just roll out the sleeping pad and sleep in the bed. Such a crazy juxtaposition from all the other group members vehicles.
@@nicholask7347 I try to not stray much from my moto pack-out. Like you, most everything fits in my (extended) cab. Lighter = better.
Marie Kondo heatwave has made it to the Overlanding community... Hahaha. Time to purge!!! 🤣👍👌👊🤟👋
I read her book in 2015 and had NO IDEA that she was now on the radar of overlanding types on CZcams. I guess this is Netflix's doing...? :D -Corrie
