That is what my parents use to do for my sister, me, and my brother after Midnight Mass. The tradition I created with my kids was; Christmas Eve an early service then we all went to the movies to see a Christmas-themed movie. It was fun taking an aisle of seats or more to sit next to one another. Of course the way things are now...scratch that off, huh? 🤪😍🤗🎄

My family has a tradition that’s been going on for 47 years. We call it Christmas Tree Day. The entire extended family meets in the morning for coffee and donuts. Then we all bundle up and get in our cars and head to our favorite Christmas tree farm. Each family finds their perfect tree. We then head back and eat my grandmothers famous beef vegetable soup and have sandwiches as we talk and enjoy the day together. We are now 5 generations doing this. I actually grew up in Ohio (about 40 minutes from where you grew up!) and one tradition we started doing was letting the younger kids start cooking. By younger, I mean me, and I'm 22 haha. My grandma, mom, and aunt have always done the cooking for big family gatherings, but I recently moved out with my fiance, and have learned how to make homemade bread from scratch - which actually came from an Amish cookbook I have from Sugarcreek, as well as a whole turkey, stuffing, and lots of desserts. I've always loved to cook, but living with my fiance has taught me a whole other level of cooking that I didn't even know I was capable of. I'm in school to be a doctor, but baking and cooking are definitely a huge passion of mine. My mom, grandma, and aunt still love to cook and do it all the time, but now that I help out with family gatherings and cooking, I'm also starting to get my 19 year old cousin into it, as well as my sister who is 18. We've all had so much fun learning how to cook more meals from scratch and just being more involved. Family is everything and starting the tradition of involving the younger kids has been so special. Absolutely love you and your videos :) Merry Christmas!!

When I joined the conservative Mennonite church, I fell in love with a fruit dessert served at every fellowship meal. It has canned fruit (usually home-canned) in a fruity tapioca sort of base - it's all mixed together, needs to be spooned out of the serving dish. So good! And every Mennonite gathering will have a salty snack and a sweet snack. Oh - one more - "bars" are popular - all varieties of bar cookies. Thank you for sharing your kitchen fun with all of us!

Every year we make sugar cookies using the recipe that my grandmother used when we were growing up. Grandma passed away in 1975 but we still remember her every year with her cookies and pumpkin pies that she made. When my kids were young we started buying them an ornament each Christmas and put their name and year on it. When they got married they had some ornaments to start decorating their own trees. When the grand kids started coming we did the same thing. They will have "baby first Christmas" and every year after that for them to decorate their trees.

As I watch this happen and they each having a certain item they now bring to the table has been such a blessing. Makes me wonder now how my grandmother felt. It is easy peasy to make and the kids love to help. A bunt pan works best. There are a gazillion recipes on line. Because there are a gazillion different things you can add. Basicly 4 regular size canisters of biskets, cut each bisket into fourths with scissors. Gallon size ziplock bag filled with about one or more cups cane sugar, two to three teaspoons of cinnamon. Toss the cut up biskets in batches into bag and shake them around. Place the biskets after tossing in the bag in a heavily buttered bunt pan. Mix in a packed cup of brown sugar into a saucepan with a stick of butter bring to boil. Pour over the top and bake at 350 about 30 minutes or until brown on top. Let cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Invert on a round pizza pan. Watch the fun as the kids pull pieces of the wonderful gooeyness! It's hot be careful. You can add nuts, raisins chocolate chips and whatever you can think up! We have always just done the cinnamon! Enjoy!

I grew up in Mexico and what we did and still do during the holidays is Mexican wedding cookies, known also as russian tea cookies, I use walnuts, some use pecans, the other traditional foods are more for cold weather and since I have lived in Miami for 8 years as you may know the winter weather is non existent.. Love your channel.. and your home improvement projects.

We have been making pecan tassies since I was a very little girl with my Grannie. Since she has gone on to her heavenly home, we still make them and share lots of stories while making them.
    Merry Christmas!

Since I've been married and even the year before we were married we have spent Christmas eve with my in laws and they always do a feast of junk food appetizers. There are veggies and dip too but its mostly things like pizza rolls, egg rolls, hot wings, mozzarella sticks, and chicken strips! This will be our first Christmas as homeowners! We have only lived in apartments!

Just want to say your hard work on social media is greatly appreciated. My daughter and I watch your videos while enjoying our morning coffee. Your videos also encourage us both.

This Sunday my 4 girls and their husbands and a total of 12 grandkids (with another one due in Feb) will be at my house to celebrate Christmas. I always have finger foods and lots of sweets, but the main sweet treat we always have every year is Hello Dolly's. My Mom made these every year and I have continued to since she passed over 20 yrs ago. We love them! God Bless and Merry Christmas!!

I have made the same coffee cake for 42 years! I received the recipe from a teacher my senior year of high school. I give them to family and friends at Christmas time. It's one of my favorite Christmas traditions.
I really enjoy your videos 😊

Hi lynette! Thanks for this video! I really enjoy watching and learning what others are making at Christmas time. I think that it's perfect that some of the things that you made weren't perfect. I believe nothing in this world truly is perfect - and that's the wonderful part! Lots of love to you and the family for a peaceful, safe and happy holiday. 🌲🥰😘♥️🍪🎂🍰🍭✌

Everything looks so good. Our biggest tradition is making Christmas donuts on Christmas morning. All they are is plain cake donuts heated in a 350 degree oven for 3-5 minutes and tossed in cinnamon sugar when they come out. So good and my kids look forward to them every year.

You are my hometown connection to Ohio. I am now living in Alabama the state I was born in for the last 29 years. I still love Ohio and the Amish/Mennonite communities there!! I really enjoy your vlogs Lynette Thank you.

My family has a couple of traditions. I bake a birthday cake that says Happy Birthday, Jesus. And my kids look for the pickle on the tree and whoever finds it gets an extra present.
I lived in Berne Indiana after I was first married and quickly moved to the country there right on the Indiana - Ohio border. All of my neighbors in Berne were Mennonite and all of them in the country were Amish. I never got to get a cookbook when I lived there and I miss the Amish food since I've moved to the Arizona desert.
(I enjoy seeing the baby afghan that I sent you in your videos!)

We have traveled and stayed in Walnutcreek several times. I love the area. Although I’m sort of shy about speaking to people I do love the Amish and Mennonite people. I myself was raised on a farm. Simple living is becoming a thing of the past yet that is the most satisfying and rewarding. I love your videos and family. I would love to go back and enjoy Amish country even more now that I have found and started following your video. God bless.

My mother always made homemade cinnamon bread at Christmas - I started doing that too last year. She would give a loaf away with her homemade raspberry jam. Although I don't have access to fresh raspberries this combination will always remind me of Christmas even though my mother passed away in 1997.

  • @juanitacarrollyoung2979

I can tell my mama loves me because she gave me the Mennonite cookbook she's had for more than fifty years. She's retired and doing some serious downsizing.
I made my cousins' day when I sent them our grandma's Pennsylvania Dutch sugar cookies recipe. The kind that are fluffy and round ☺

Yearly for Christmas my stepdad makes his cranberry sauce. This is big for me because his eyes light up when he hears us tell him how delicious it is. Another thing that I have enjoyed is every year my kids draw a picture for me. I now have a big book full of Christmas drawings.

Thank you for sharing all the yummy goodness with us. Very sweet of you to give away a cookbook. Our traditions have changed over the years, but once family is around, there is always board and card games to be played, and plenty of time spent in the kitchen.
