She just repeated exactly what my husband and I were saying today about what we have noticed in the Mennonite/AnaBaptist groups is the Strong since of community, service, and walking in consistancy. We can not find that in other denominations and feel led to go to a Mennonite church because we long for a family in Christ. People we can grow with and become family with.

I’m a traditional Roman Catholic, so obviously we disagree on certain things, but I would like to sincerely thank you for the respect you show to those with whom you disagree. It isn’t often that you find that. Also, I greatly admire your modesty and simplicity. I’m saddened by the lack of modesty in modern Catholic women and I pray that it will change someday soon. God bless you and guide you both!

What if someone shows you something out of love that makes you think wow i was wrong. I know I was wrong and someone reached out to me. Some people say respect my beliefs. It's not that I don't respect what you are doing it's that an eye has been opened something I believe it would be good for you to look at. So that said do you want to talk or is that disrespecting your belief also?

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience- 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body[a] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.[b] 4 But[c] God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ-by grace you have been saved- 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

@@AnabaptistPerspectives they were welcoming. Thank you.
As I attended longer, you see people are selfish and worldly. One member wouldn't even let me put my food in the large church fridge in the church even though the administrator said I can. It wasn't his fridge but he was mean towards me. I can forget that if he would only apologize. I can forget about him if the members weren't focused on worldly possessions. You meet many people who are rich and focused on their worldly possessions and holding on to the things of this world.
So it's a church not much different from other church "programs".
The true church is described in the Book of Acts where they shared all things in common and everyone's needs were met.
Jesus tells us to obey Matthew 25:35-40.
Then the world would see Jesus much clearer, through us.

    • @inTruthbyGrace
      @inTruthbyGrace Před 2 lety

@@childofhashem7350 hmm. well, Jesus never referred to God with that name. in the entire corpus of Koine Scripture Jesus left with the Church.. we do not find that name in a single page,
if it is a "Hebrew" name it was picked up from the Jews after the introduction of the Masoretic Text of the 11th century AD bc prior to 1100ad there was no "Hebrew" Scriptures in common circulation among the Christians and Jerome and Origen were the only 2 "church fathers" who spoke "Hebrew" ...
now Jesus said "I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word." (John 17:6) ...
did He really give us God's name?
did they really keep God's word?
Because, if that is true and Jesus NEVER mentioned these "Hebrew" names (aside from Eloi/ Eli) in all 29,000 pieces of manuscript evidence we have of the NT and "Hebrew' was not introduced to the "Church" prior to the 11th century, then where did wwe get these names and why are they being used in the Church?
      where did they come from?
what is the source of these "Hebrew" names of "god" that Jesus and the early church just forgot to mention?
I know everyone thinks that God *_should have given us Hebrew texts_* and that it was just some big cosmic mistake that God made by _using EXCLUSIVELY GREEK texts to spread the gospel to a Greek speaking world_
but God used Koine Greek as the linguistic super highay to spread the gospel to ALL nations that just happened to be speaking Koine Greek EVERYWHERE outside of Jerusalem... that is what God did to fill genesis 18:18, 22:18 and bless all nations bc as Jesus said "search the Scriptures, .. they testify of me" (John 5:39)
and that is exactly what Paul did to convert BOTH Jew and Gentile... he went in to the synagogue on the sabbath day to open the Scriptures and demonstrate that Jesus was Christ (Acts 17:1-3)
Paul could NOT have spread the gospel by the Scriptures if there was not already a copy of them in Koine Greek waiting in a synagogue in every city of every region of the Greek Speaking world from Spain to Ethiopia, Turkey to Egypt, Italy to Assyria... the entire civilized world had been speaking Koine Greek for 400Y before Jesus got here and the Jews were just conveniently scattered all over the that Greek Speaking world, in demand of Greek OT Scriptures (LXX) which just happened to be ANCHORED in every synagogue waiting for the disciples in every region of the Greek Roman empires....

I have grown so tired of the double standards Samantha touched on at 7:47, and have so respected the Mennonites for coming out from among them and being separate. Yes, we are the light, but do not have to condone what the world is pushing on us. In separating myself from the standards I will not compromise, I find myself very much alone. When she said that they are consistent outside of church, I got excited at the idea of connecting with Mennonites. Just at the very thought, I don't feel so alone in my journey anymore. Very happy to see ever-evolving outreach from Old-Order Mennonites.
I think there's a balance but it can be quite precarious. In a sense the Mennonite and, much farther, the Amish faith are extensions of childhood. Not to be meant as an insult, many people in the world would benefit from the realization that they are in fact essentially children to an infinitely higher being. Yet you have children idolizing bigger children on T.V. or elsewhere from entertainment to politics. Traditional Mennonites and Amish do a great deal more to idolize God without the many distractions of the modern world by subjugating themselves to guidelines of elders.
You're supposed to be raised to love God. That doesn't happen most of the time for most people. If it did you may not need the protection and the isolation of various communities. And if you're very gifted you may be able to be the one righteous family among the wicked. Without the community, one would suffer greatly on a Godly path. This is where they have it right. Other Christian communities struggle to keep a community together.
I bible studied quite a bit with Mennonites but I regretfully find them extraordinarily judgmental from leadership positions. Doctrine-wise they are not perfect. I believe they're 'good enough' for people following God but they're not perfect and their radical positions put them at odds with other Christian sects. I fully believe their doctrine would become harsher if other Christian sects began encroaching on their's. At times they seem to come full circle from the old Jewish religious orders of Jesus' day to the point it's more about following rules than a matter of the heart. One person can handle a television set in their home and perhaps another can't. You don't need to outcast someone over such a matter but without such rules the distinctions become blurry between a follower of Christ and a heathen. At worst, it seems like they virtue signal Godliness at times.
I regret very much that they essentially shun myself and others for not fully committing to Christ as they think it aught to be done. I don't see the scripture commanding this at all. If it was there would be contradictions with that in multiple places, which there wouldn't be. This is the problem when you look at the bible as a legal document and don't strive daily to set your own heart straight first. God is not going to give you a checklist that you can accomplish but if your heart is straight first you would be able to fill out almost all of it without ever seeing it.

My family was Roman Catholic and I remember vividly Pope John Paull II passing by my grandmother's home when I was around 10. She was devout but no longer attended as she became older. I often attended mass with my siblings or friends before class daily as we went to parochial school.
Around age 12 I had more questions than could be answered in catechism. My spiritual path has meandered somewhat since but I discovered that, for me, a hierarchy, structure, tradition, ritual, building or garment had little to do with my faith. I always felt a kinship with anabaptists although I haven't pursued it further than personal reflection and research.
I think wherever we feel closest to God is where we should be. In my case, it's out in the field, in our garden, after a hard day of work or after making a meal my family appreciates and enjoys. I'm ever seeking and learning and I think, for me, this is how it is meant to be.
Many blessings and best of luck to everyone.

I become tearful when I think about how long I have searched. Now, it is clear to me that I have slowly become Anabaptist in as much as I understand what that is? I've been Baptized several times, once in the River Jordan in Israel. I can't attend a Mennonite church because my life is a wreck. I notice that there is a video that says "Street Gang to Pastor". My sin was perhaps deeper than that, and would be too much for you, I'm sure.
I am intersex and lived 50 years of my life as a male, though there was much trouble and many thought I was gay. Since 2004, I have lived as a woman, and most don't know unless I tell them. I wish I could go back and start over. I can be Mennonite in my heart, but that is all.

Khadijah Brown, the Mennonites have some true believers among them, do not seek a church to define your walk with God. If I can encourage you Khadijah, seek the Lord Jesus Christ in His Word. Read the gospel of John, asking God to teach you about Jesus and what He has done to bring us to Himself. You might keep a notebook of the insights you learn, because God's Word is completely 'other' than what people are outside of Christ. Notice what Jesus says about Himself, and how to know Him. He wants you as His child! He will show you how to be freed from your life of sin and confusion. He will give you power through the Holy Spirit to live free of wrong and binding thoughts, etc. Call upon Jesus, friend! Matthew 11:28-30.

    • @twylah7678
      @twylah7678 Před 4 lety +5

Khadijah, please do not say or believe that you can not attend church because your life is a wreck. Compared to the perfection of God we are all a wreck and the different degrees our sins pales in comparison to how far we all are from being good enough to get into heaven on our own merit. Churches are sinners saved by the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. The key is the need to acknowledge Jesus, and that it is only by him that we can approach the throne of God. This is for all sinners. Acknowledge what Jesus did on the cross, tell him in prayer that you want to change (confess/repent) and ask him to help you in changing your heart and your life. Khadijah, I give you this verse -
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
      Read all of 1 John 1 !
Ask in prayer for God to lead you to a faithful community of believers (a church) as that is the model given to us in the New Testament. Yes, people in the church may find your story overwhelming and may not react properly, because people in churches are all works in progress. Keep praying and seeking a faithful community - it may take time and effort- keep praying and relying on Jesus for this part.
      God Bless

@Ellen Brown: Mennonites are not perfect, nor are any plain Anabaptists. We are all on a journey to God, and each of us have different starting points. Each of God’s children is unique. The fact is that no matter how someone looks on the outside, none of us are perfect! Only Jesus is perfect and that’s why we should keep our eyes on Him, listening to His words, learning from our Elder Brother, walking with Him and following in His footsteps. Gradually, by walking with Him and yielding to His will, by listening and learning to love and live in His ways, we will become more like Him. One promise in scripture that is especially precious to me is that, when we finally see Him, we will be like Him!! (1 John 3.1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.
2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.)
If you haven’t yet, I beg you to not wait, but to seek and find a faith family who knows how to love as Jesus did, and to help you along the way. Those of us who trust God as our father and give our lives to Him, are like one part of a body. One part of a body cannot survive all alone, separated from other parts. We were made & designed to be attached to the other body parts, and only then can we function correctly and fulfil our purpose in the Body of Christ. Jesus is our example, He who listened to His Father’s will and obeyed it because of His great love for us!!
I do hope you have found a good, supportive Biblical Anabaptist faith family by now but in case you have not, here is a good resource and Anabaptist fellowship finder: www.beachyam.org/
Sometimes you can also make connections and find other nearby like-minded people to fellowship with at annual gatherings like Kingdom Fellowship weekend, kingdomfellowshipweekend.org/events/kingdom-fellowship-weekend-2021/. All of their past messages are available to hear on the website.
Don’t give up! Trust in the Lord with all of your heart! Seek Him with all of your heart, and you will find Him! 💙🙏🏽💙

Of course they do. That is the whole point of the woman sharing her testimony, although I'm sure that there are also many mennonites & Amish of the anabaptist groups that are not born again believers. Regardless of the denominations though, the Bible says in John 3:3
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Jew or gentile, mennonite or contemporary Christian, it doesn't matter. The reason we should want to dress modestly & live separate from the world is not just because we are called to do so in the Bible, but also because we want to do that, as a result of being made new by the Holy Spirit. We are a new creation & we now realize that our bodies are temples. The way we live & dress is only the result of what the Holy Spirit has convicted of us, and this happens from the inside out. This is mostly why the mennonites & Amish dress this way. But many other Christians who aren't of this group dress this way as well. I have family who are mennonites as well. Let the word of God do the convicting. Make sense?
      Hope it helps :)

Anabaptists generally interpret the Bible literally, so yes, we do believe in the necessity of being born again, and the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our community. The Anabaptist movement, as it was born in the sixteenth century, attempted not simply to reform the church, but to restore the church as it is found in the book of Acts to her original purity, power, and mission, which included the gifts, but more importantly the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness and Your Torah is the truth

    says
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law/Torah of God, nor indeed can be.
8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

If you are a Christian who shares this ambition, many Anbaptist people and churches would welcome you to join with us. Attending an Anabaptist church and making friendships with Anabaptist Christians would be a good step. Most of all, we hope you pursue a close relationship with God. If fellowship with an Anabaptist church assists you on this journey, you should see how this could become a reality for you.

Emily, I believe just the opposite. It is genuine change on the inside, because of Jesus' dwelling within, that will absolutely result in visible changes on the outside (not just in physical appearance, but in our attitudes and responses). We cannot experience Jesus in our lives and not be changed. But, sometimes making changes on the outside, out of obedience to Scripture, may be the way that heart change comes about. We need simply follow the Shepherd in every area of our lives. It is not works that save us, but walking by faith in and obedience to Him.

Hi! Thank you for the comment and question. I don’t know much about the Church of Christ, besides the few things I’ve heard from friends in those churches. I haven’t read Traces of the Kingdom.
Most Mennonites practice and believe in the doctrine of nonresistance which is basically obedience to Jesus’ teachings in the sermon on the mount which prohibit retaliation and violence. Out of loyalty to Jesus as our king and love for our neighbors, we don’t participate in the military, government, or lawsuits. From my observation, most in churches called Church of Christ (though I know there are some exceptions) do not practice or believe in this doctrine. Please correct me if I’m wrong about that.

You may be interested to know that Chuck Pike is on the board for a college that finds some identity with the early Anabaptist movement: www.sattlercollege.org/board-of-trustees/
No. You weren’t rude. I appreciate that you’re direct. You’ve made a point. Hopefully people in Anabaptist churches, myself included, do not have inappropriately placed loyalty where identity with a tradition diminishes allegiance to Christ. Repentance is the best solution if we’re in error. I’ll continue to think and pray about your caution.
I mentioned nonresistance, but that’s only one expression of our commitment to obedience to the New Testament’s teachings, including the “hard” ones.
Many evangelical Christians accept remarriage after divorce; most Anabaptists view reconciliation with one’s spouse or celibacy to be the only legitimate options for a believer after divorce (Matthew 19:4-6) (there is some disagreement among Anabaptists regarding the proper application of “except for sexual immorality” (19:9)).
Anabaptists have almost always, a still do, avoid swearing and oaths, even in legal contexts (Matthew 5:33-37). From my observation, many evangelicals would solemnly swear in some cases.
As you heard discussed in this episode, most Anabaptists (at least in North America) attempt to follow the teaching in First Corinthians 11, First Timothy 2:9, and First Peter 3:3 about head coverings, modesty, and jewelry. Most North American evangelical women do not cover their heads while praying and prophesying; most North American anabaptist women do. Most North American anabaptist men do not wear hats while praying and prophesying.
The ways in which people in Anabaptist churches view believers in non denominational churches vary from person to person and from church to church. My position and, I suspect, the position of most others is to view believers in these churches as brothers and sisters. We have disagreements on some points. Where truth in the New Testament is ignored in these churches, we lament (I suppose you do too?) and desire that God moves each of us to greater humility and closer discipleship.

I think lack of education isn't a fault of my church but perhaps your parents lack of attendance is why you didn't know the rubrics of catholicism. We do practice modesty in the Latin Rite. Very nice presentation of your experiences.

Catholicism presents a false gospel. Im certain she did receive instruction and decided to reject Catholic teachings, as do many including myself.

I grew up very strong Catholic but left due to some of it's beliefs being contrary to the Bible.
Mennonites are better but they too deviate from the Bible.
Early church shared all things in common and everyone's needs were met.
Mennonites can be worldly and focused on material possessions.
I've been to services at a Mennonite church where there are plenty of rich people.
They hold on to their money while Jesus is still hungry in the third world.
What does Matthew 25:35-40 say please?
Yes, they've gone there and fed Him a little, very little, while they hold on to a lavish huge church building, paying several staff members and many members having fancy homes.
So, they fed Jesus Very Little and feel content. Didn't Jesus say "love the Lord....and your neighbor as yourself"?
Does a rich Mennonite need a much bigger fancy home than another believer who can barely pay his medical bills but works just as hard, or harder, cause of his medical condition?
Never heard a Mennonite preacher say "woe to you who are rich now....".
Many many Mennonites in the US are rich compared to what average living standard is in the world.
      So....

men never wore pants in early church times. they all wore robes so the idea that girls shouldn't wear pants doesn't compute. my mother and grandparents were german mennonites. no such rules existed for women.

God is not the author of confusion, and this why the Bible was created. God's truth was never abrogated nor lost. If we all strive to gain understanding from the Scriptures simply through reading it ourselves, not through the private interpretations of people who take God's words out of context and put them into their own context.... then we are on the right track.
    The apostle Peter speaking:
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. - 2 Peter 1:20, KJV
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. - 1 Peter 1:24-25, KJV
God does not abrogate His teachings and His words, but Islam and Roman Catholicism does. Joseph Smith (founder of Mormonism), Charles Taze Russell (founder of the Jehovah's Witnesses), and Muhammad (founder of Islam) -- all claimed to have rediscovered the lost truth (which was never lost to begin with). Even when the Roman Catholic institution was created, there were Bible believing people who did not bow to the pagan religion of Rome that had a veneer of Christianity. The counterfeits have no saving power.... and the popes and the bishops of Rome cannot give you God's Holy Spirit. There is no mediator to Jesus but Jesus Himself. Sacraments cannot save, but only trusting in the sufficient sacrifice which was made once and for all through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on our behalf is sufficient for salvation. What was impossible to obtain through our own works, was made possible only through Jesus Christ. Salvation is easy to obtain, but it is by no means cheap, because Jesus paid the highest price for our redemption, with His own priceless blood. God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself. Only God is good and without sin, and Jesus is He. Jesus said if you have seen Him, then you have seen the Father. I and my Father are One. Trust in God alone and worship Him alone.
Those who trust in their own hearts are fools, says the Bible - and cursed are those who trust in mankind. But if you place your trust in Jesus, He will not fail you, and He will keep all the words that He has spoken, and everything that is written in the Bible which reflects His will and His testament. Salvation is a free gift for any person who calls upon the name of Jesus in truth and in sincerity with a humble heart. God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Romans 8:9 says that if we don't have His Spirit then we don't belong to Him. Jesus said, "marvel not that I say to you, that ye must be born again." Without being born again, none of us can belong to God - but God knows each person who belongs to Him, because we are intimately connected to His Spirit.
God alone is the Source of Goodness, Truth, Love, and Life. The Bible says that we are born naturally at enmity against God, and we cannot please Him. But what Jesus does is always pleasing, and His perfect works are credited to our own account, if we will receive Him. Once we receive Him, we receive the Spirit which won us our victory, and has overcome the world. Our sins were as red as scarlet, but He has made them as white as snow.... blotting out our transgressions, removing them as far as the east is from the west, and remembering our sins no more. Blessed are those whose sins are covered by the blood of Jesus, and blessed are those who trust in their Creator above all, and cling to Him and His words, as His words give life to our souls. God is His Truth that He has revealed to us. We must accept God as He is, and trust the words of His mouth, and not be like Adam and Eve who trusted in the words of another entity over the Lord. The Bible is the highest and final authority over the followers of Jesus, and we can only call ourselves followers if we are followers of His teachings.

But just because they never taught you the truth doesn’t mean the Truth is not there. And a big problem is going by your feelings when it comes to truth. You just stated yourself not to go by emotionalism. I pray you continue to seek the truth. Perhaps sit in front of Adoration.
You were misinformed, you don’t need to say the rosary to be close to God. I think your modesty is beautiful, that’s one thing I wish more of from my Catholic sisters. God bless you.

Humble Daughter, I'm still "out on the jury" as to what all I think about the Catholic church as a whole. I have met some sincerely devote Catholics who loved the Lord, but I also have serious concerns about a good bit of the theology found within Catholicism that is in direct opposition to the Word of God. Thank you for watching and commenting!

And Mennonites don't live like the NT church either -- sharing all things in common and where everyone's needs are met.
This will be very important in these last days. Things will get much tougher as WEF turns up the heat leading into the coming of the antichrist.
