Stay in the Boat

  • Staying true to the teachings of Jesus Christ is like staying safe in a boat traveling through dangerous whitewater rapids. Elder M. Russell Ballard urges all of us to stay in “the boat,” wear a life jacket, and hold on. If we have fallen out of the boat, we can depend on those who love us to find us and pull us back to safety.

      Hello Jeff! . how are you?. i want to know why all your hope is in men when the bible does not teach what the lds church teaches?. im sorry but there will be justice brought fourth on those who follow dogma that is not taught by god!. for example you have heard of many teachings by your prophet right?. well one of them was god was not always god but rather became god king follet sermon very famous in the lds church. well the bible says in the heavens and the earth he is the first and the last besides him there is no god just type in those words and it will come up with the info you need and then look it up in the king james you use!. the gospel was written 1500 years ago and god says if anyone changes it he will curse them look up what the gospel is from the bible and compare it to your prophets gospel that he taught. what shall a man gain by gaining the whole world but he looses his own soul jesus said this. Jeff please dont think im out to attack you because im not i have studied mormon doctrine and compared it to the bible and there is a huge gap and huge difference the bible is not corrupt as the book of mormon says because we have the old copies 40,000 of them and they all add up to the bible. if i am wrong then i will go to spereit prison and if your wrong and take that risk you are going to hell where the lake of fire burns up forever and ever day and night romans look it up. also thge bible and book of mormon agree that there is one god and one heaven one hell . again i am not attacking your faith im here because i feel that mormons are out side of god witch who could flee from the wrath of god at the last day? that is correct nobody. feel free to ingore me but i love you and hope to see you in god heaven on earth someday. sorry for the spelling mistakes you can use them to discredit me that will not have any logical dispute againest me :)

Please contact the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they would be happy share with you the message how God still speaks to His children today through living prophets as He did in Bible times. We showed this video during our scriptures/family time. We asked the kids what it means to "stay in the boat". It was a great message which generated a good family discussion. It truly is about the small things. Prayer, scripture studies, keeping the commandments, attending our meetings, etc., that keep us close to the Lord and safe from the world and all it has to offer. So grateful for the teachings of Christ and His servants, through which He guides our way.

      Your comment is an interesting one. I have found in my life that there is a big difference between happiness and joy. Happiness can be fleeting and only lasts for a short duration, and joy comes from doing those things that might not seem pleasant in the moment but in the long term are going to benefit you even more. Like school, exercise or a savings plan.

    • @adamv4951
      @adamv4951 Před 7 lety +2

      Bryce, I was referring to your comment that you've never been happier. Yes, there is certainly a marked difference between joy and happiness. And oftentimes, we have to travel through sorrow to experience the joy in the end as you say. It's hard to enjoy the sweet when we aren't acquainted with the bitter. I look at the life of Christ. He was man "acquainted with grief" but now sits in glory beside the Father. But here am I, a life of ease and comfort compared to that. I have a lot to be grateful for.

    I thought we were commanded by Jesus to get out of the boat, have faith and walk on water. This video feels like fear mongering. I get the obvious metaphors in the video but they so blatantly confuse Christ's message, that I don't get.

    • @Mr.Sniffles
      @Mr.Sniffles Před 8 lety +14

      Your over thinking it, Elder M Russell Ballard is not talking about anything related to that story. He is using the harsh currents of rivers as metaphor for the sinful behavior we can partake in. By "staying in the boat" we don't commit dangerous sins. By not falling into the water we keep the commandment and stay rightous

    • @Mr.Sniffles
      @Mr.Sniffles Před 8 lety +2

      I hope that clears up some confusion :)

    • @aerotrooper
      @aerotrooper Před 8 lety +1

      Perhaps I'm overthinking it. But I think it's more important to have faith, even alone than to follow sheep to slaughter. I find the message of the video the opposite of what Jesus would ask of us through any of Jesus's talks in scripture. I don't know if they are trying to teach contrary teachings to be coy or if it's part of some divide and conquer scheme with other denominations. But it feels really off point from the teachings of Jesus. Going by this idea of staying in the boat we will all surely perish with the leaders of the day. I guess I'm more against the many words of the Pharisees and this feels like Pharisee stuff... No hate, I'm just not in the boat I guess. And I'm not afraid.

    • @kirapetersen1511
      @kirapetersen1511 Před 8 lety +6

      +Steven John what it means by to stay in the boat, is to have faith in Jesus Christ and to not fall into temptation or sin. And if you do, you can return by His help, and by using his atonement. He will help you. Think about it, if you get out of the boat to walk on water and lose your faith, you will begin to sink. Christ then steps in to help you. You have to have faith, and stay in the boat, Or keep staying true to the gospel and having faith in Christ.

      Susan Palmer
      I was in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in all 17 years if my life. It is DEFINITELY a cult. Study the BITE model, and compare evidence with SCHOLARLY sources. Read the CES letter, and look at how the church treats rape victims, how it covers up history, compare suicide rates in Utah to the rest of America. Please do at least some of these things before you claim it is not a cult.
      And for the record, I’m not against you as a person in anyway, we are all looking for the truth, and I respect that. But what I can’t except are the beliefs of The Mormon church, from a factual standpoint, they’re are inaccuracies everywhere, and from a moral standpoint, they have/are making wrong decisions. From the history of racism, to the sexism, to there stance on the LGBT community which cause thousands of teens to kill themselves. I could never bring myself to believe that a religion that receives revelations from a loving, omnipotent God would ever allow.
      The reason I comment this was in no way meant to be hateful, to you, or any other Mormons. I did this because Mormonism has deeply traumatized me, and leaving the church has only changed my life for the better. Mormons themselves are so kind to each other, but Mormonism puts so much unnecessary guilt, shame, and rules on its followers( plus it’s REALLY expensive).
      If you want to talk about your beliefs, want to hear more about why I don’t believe, want to vent at someone, or you just want to talk about Mormonism in general with someone, I’m right here
      Regardless of your faith, I hope you live a fulfilling, happy life.

Okay, cool, I'm sorry if you didn't have a great experience or something.. but the thing is others do believe, so no need to be immature and trying to "bash" a group of people who genuinely try to follow Jesus's example. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      I'm sorry about your bad experience, but our church is not a cult. And you probably just had a bad experience with the people, not what the church believes. Maybe you didn't, but I can't see why someone would have trauma from people who believe in loving your neighbor and treating others the way you want to be treated. You may not like what we believe, but our church is not a cult, and if you think otherwise, you can talk about that somewhere besides in the comments of our messages, because other people come here to feel the spirit and comment on positive things. :)
