Did a similar thing in the airport in Cape Town. Was on my way to the departure gate and walked past a jeweller. I've always had a thing for watches and briefly paused to look in the Tag Heuer window. There was a tiny sign that said "50% off". I walked in and said to the lady, "Is that sign real ?" She said it was. I did a quick currency calculation in my head from SA Rand to NZ Dollars and knowing the full price in NZ Dollars, it was indeed half price. Out came my credit card and I paid for it. She told me she was going to get the box and paperwork etc and I told her I didn't have time, my plane was leaving. She handed me the watch. I put it in my pocket and raced for the departure gate. I was literally the last person on. About 2 minutes later, after buckling my self in and trying to catch my breath, the sales lady from the shop appeared with my paperwork and the watch presentation box. She handed it to me with a big grin on her face and was escorted off by one of the air hostesses. I think the year was 2000. I still have the watch.... and the paperwork and the leather presentation box.
Thank you for sharing your story! It's stories like these that makes any watch buying experience a memorable one!
Wow... that sales lady was amazing... 👏
Wow! I really hope that watch lady is doing well wherever she is now
Those paper and box are valuable one day when you want to sell it. I keep my Rolex receipt ,certificate, and box in the drawer for my son as inheritance
You bought a watch, without the box, and put it in your pocket instead of your wrist?😂😂😂
The actual reason for removing the protective film on the various parts of the watch is to ensure that the watch cannot be sold as ‘new’ on the grey market. Hope this helps.
Even though, you can still do that!
But what if you have to buy it as a gift ... And don't want the wraps removed....
I left mine on and wore the watch as a daily and within a few weeks it caused uneven wear to the gold inside of the clasp, I’d certainly not recommend leaving them on around the clasp.
@@jaysimpson6857 lmao bruh
I think them removing this stickers is great for the resellers who are driving up prices...
I did the same thing 20 years ago and bought a black dial version. It was one of the the greatest moments of my life as I saved 10 years to buy that watch. I flew from Amsterdam to London and took a coffee after 3 hours went back. I still regret I sold it after had some marriage issues and needed the money to divorce etc etc. Great watch though. The feeling wearing it you cannot describe.
Hey thanks for sharing your story. You did what you had to do, don't think you should feel regretful. At least you kept the memories and share it with the community here. Thank you.
Hi S VDB. That's why like to buy used watches, specially Rolex, even though most of the times we will never know, I bet they all have some interesting life story behind it.
Bare in mind that this watch will be always connected to you, and your life is now part of someone's life, and it will keep going on and on until the day the watch somehow is destroyed ( IF it's )
:D
What's the price in Amsterdam?

Bought mine in 1989, worn every day, work and travel. Serviced twice and polish myself. Still looks brand new and always brings attention. I have the black face and did find a real gold/stainless clasp, the gold through clasp was not oem at the time.
Congrats, wear it well, and always. Hey, I wore mine home from the dealer!!
Congrats. The staff at Schiphol has generally been very kind. Congrats on picking up this piece.
Add this to the list of things that will NEVER happen to me on a business trip when I visit a Rolex boutique 😂 CONGRATS!!!
Seriously.... 😮.... NO!!.... SERIOUSLY.... 😮, Just walk up to an AD and got a 2 tone sub.... NO!! It's a myth.... A myth....

This is the only two-tone Rolex I would ever consider. Absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations
Hello. I'm very curious. Did you pay for it at the retail price as marked like the ones in the display?
I was in the same AD last year, and they told me they were a pilot AD for Rolex for a new program where Rolex sends the AD random watches at regular intervals, that they are asked to sell without waiting lists. Benefit is obvious, but the down side is you never know what watches they might have for sale. I really like the concept!
This concept kinda make sense because how can you possibly do waiting list where most passengers are travellers on transit.
Hi Robert, funny story! I had the same experience when I was there last year to. Fantastic staff and much better service than the normal stores. she told me that they had people sleeping over to visit them on a special day every week.. :P
Isn’t in Japan the ADs work like that? I heard they don’t have waiting lists.
Gasshan Schiphol's the name of this same AD?
All "waitlists" are made up by the AD.
The number of times I have passed by this exact boutique and they told me that nothing is for sale makes me go crazy. Congrats bro :)
The power of the norwegian passport 😂🇳🇴❤
Same here, twice a month in Amsterdam, got same answer all the time
for you , you get nothing.... ;-) - czcams.com/video/RqlQYBcsq54/video.html
@@enrage6073 Hate to say that, but yes. Some of the Rolex staff sometimes judge by the looks, I am not saying all of them but some of them. Which is disgusting.
Add to that, I was at Gassan's palace today in Amsterdam, they wrote to me over email that the watch was in stock yesterday and they were waiting for me to go and pay for it. I took my father and I went to collect today as they said, and the first thing I know is that they watch was sold. I was in absolute shock today and could not explain why this was happening, and at the same time, I did not want to make a scene so I just asked them politely if I can preorder it and then they were like "Sorry, we do not accept preorders". I was like, for god's sake why is there even a store if you have got nothing in stock and you do not accept preorders.
I got one datejust from the same shop about a year ago while returning from a US trip. I always check the inventory of Rolex stores, and while they were saying they have none in stock, the “delivery guy” brought one Datejust. They asked me if I wanted to and made me pay before opening the box. Even though I own a few Rolex watches, my adrenaline level increased during that time 😂
Hey bruh, are you rich?
It’s not the most popular sports but still amazing they had it available. Must have timed your visit to perfection! Congratulations
Great pickup! The Bluesy is outstanding and to be able to pick it up on travel just makes the trip that much more spectacular!
You made a good decision to ask if the AD had any models available for sale. I simply didn’t ask because I asked at several places and they always said the same thing. Good that you kept trying!! 😊👍👏
Congrats on the Rolex, and thanks for sharing this experience via video.
What a nice friendly sales assistant. So unlike most Rolex ADs.
Huh? Any time I went to one of their airport locations they were hella nice. They even let you try on stuff they know you won't buy.
Hard to find at retail. Great buy. I bought my blue submariner 25 years ago. It’s been a great watch.
I’ve had mine for nearly 12 years now. It’s still stand out. Love it.
My Oyster Perpetual is 29 years old, still love it
What was the price?
Likely full retail....25-29k
Congrats, I think the Bluesy is an amazing looking watch. Enjoy and wear it in good health!
Have the exact same model. Bought mine in springtime 2021, been wearing it every day since. Never polished it, still looks stunning. It gets an immense amount of attention, the blue dial is truly unmistakable. Congrats!
No doubt it gets a great deal of attention. I have witnessed the same thing with my Rolex. The only problem is, one day it’s going to attract the wrong attention, and it will be stolen or you will be hurt badly in the process. it’s not a matter if it’ll happen, it’s a matter of when.
How much did you pay for yours?
@@yomama412 154 600 SEK at my local AD in Sthlm. I want to recall the retail price in USD being around 14 300 at that time.

Fantastic buy!!! Great video, also!
I was in Europe last fall, including Switzerland, and stopped at several Rolex ADs. No success in finding a sport watch for sale. "Long wait lists, limited availability", etc.
Stopped in my local AD in the states, that I have purchased from before, in Dec. 22 with same response. Asked to be put on a wait list for a new Rolex Sub, no date, and received a text in January that one was available.
Bought it !!!
what did you pay and what year is this watch? Thanks.
I remember taking several business trips to Hong Kong around 2015. Subs and Pepsis were always on display to be tried on at airport duty free stores, and Nautilus was easily available at Patek boutiques downtown. I told myself I would buy one in a couple of years. A couple of years... 😭
Nautilus easily available ? Wasnt there a 10 year waitlist?

I want to ask something dear , how much was it and how to pay for it . I mean when buying 15k or 20 k watch , does your card did the payment in one transaction ?? Is it possible...
Congratulations, a great purchase. The availability of Rolex has improved enormously as the grey market is becoming overloaded with watches from sellers in Asia, particularly China which is suffering from a financial disaster right now with its imploding property market, and owners trying to get dollars quickly. Istanbul, where I'm based has a big supply of Rolex and other luxury brands. So, over time, your story will not be unusual as the grey market becomes overstocked, Rolex stores will have more availability.
Anyone Need Accounts Services, Transaction Handle , Currency Exchange
Really…I am in China now and don’t see these issues you are ranting about? Have you been here before or you imagined all this because CNN and NBC told you so 😂😂😂
That’s incredible find.
I think it’s more of a incredible opportunity! It’s really hard to get one
Actually with the market how it’s looking. I bet a dealer offers you retail price for it. I know he isn’t selling, just talking value. Then they flip it for a grand profit
The no tax made it a good deal, otherwise, I think you can get that watch for retail price + tax easily
@@johnnychimpo7539 a dealer wouldn't even give you list for it they can be had around and below retail now a lovely watch be no longer investment pieces as well as other Rolex models. The market isn't like before don't believe the hype. Ring a dealer and offer them one and most likely they will only offer to sell it for you for a commission.
@@danielthompson803 what are you trying to say?
It’s an easy watch to get and they would give me a discount?
Can you do me a favor please? How is your price compared to the one public on their website? Much cheaper? Or similar?
Hi how much did safe from normal price if you dont mind telling me.
Was never a Rolex fan, but this is the only one I would ever buy for myself, that blue dial with the gold is so much more unique and eye catching than the standard silver submariner.
I think you could appreciate Rolex’ rare stone dials, like Lapis, malachite, onyx, aventurine, fossil, etc
Yellow gold is awful 🤮
Normal its the most nice rolex ever made , never sold mine , imoossible
If that’s what you like then you will be able to acquire that specific watch quite a bit more easily than a pure stainless steel version. There are many gold ones available for sale due to the market not desiring the yellow gold, they don’t hold the same value in the secondary market either.
Black and gold looks even better
Love the fact you can steal this amazing watch, duty free , no waitlist and catch your flight! Congrats 🎈! Love the two tone Submariner!!

That's insane! I've heard a lot about Rolex AD's being a nightmare. But it seems in other parts of the world there are Rolex AD's that are accomodating and friendly. I wish all Rolex AD's are like what's shown in the airport.
I think it’s really hard for them to offer any pieces now as they are experiencing a shortage of watches. But nonetheless I’m impressed and I’m glad I’m able to experience this!
How?? I am mad of questions

The same for Klm crew, i think is a general kind and professional approach i found in the Netherlands several times
Why did Rolex stop using the shoulders on the case to protect the winding crown? It looks really vulnerable sticking out like that?
It’s the same price as the classic one ? I saw the GMT Master II at 10 900€, it’s the same price in an official Rolex shop oustide of the airport

Just bought my first Rolex Datejust today, incredibly lucky since they could sell only one watch from their stock to me and it was the exact model I was after for months. Seems to be stock is slowly coming up. They had to count the whole Rolex stock just to ensure they had enough pieces on display just to follow Rolex guidelines and luckily they had one extra so I could have bought any piece on display 🤩.
Also I noticed even the sales lady and manager was genuinely happy to see they had one watch extra they could sell.
Again it's always better to ask, I went in there to buy a Omega since it seems like Rolex is not going to be available for a while and walked out with a Datejust.
What kind of Datejust was that?
Lately, Rolex are becoming more available. I recently walked into a an AD in NYC, and they had four ready to sell me. I was so surprised. I think the gray market will be running scared soon.
The upcoming downturn in the economy will have many more of these available for sale.

nice! do you think it's a problem when you go back home? For example, if you don't declare the goods but officials could check your purchases because you register your boarding pass etc and then force you to pay the tax for 'importing'. hope that makes sense

@@Solinvicti they’re far from good value but they hold value or rise.
They lied to you. The ADs don’t know how many watches or when they will arrive. And if a longtime customer comes in and wants the watches you’re waiting for they will get them. Just make sure you’re wearing it when you return to your home country & make sure you mail the packaging & papers back home too. That’s why visiting your local AD occasionally, talk watches, remind them you’re still interested, is important. I got the Tudor GMT Opaline exactly that way - stopped at the AD to say hello; their delivery had arrived 45 minutes earlier so they hadn’t even had time to start calling people. ‘If you want it, it’s yours.’ I’ve bought 2 other Tudors there but know I’m not their top customer (I’ve met guys at events there - they own 12 or more) and probably wasn’t next in line. Of course I bought it immediately.

Buying a Rolex when I bought my first in the 1990s was a dime dozen. I hadn't even heard of Patek until I went to work with some extraordinarily wealthy old money New York families. Rolex was like Timex to them. To think that today it has all this hype is a testament to the power of social media. You can reinvent a brand to have a heritage it actually never earned.
Same, I bought my first Rolex in 94-95 and I just walked in the store and bought it. No hoops to jump through or ass kissing required 😁
Money printing and crypto riches too. Hype without cash doesn’t sell luxury items.
