Yes Bulova, more of this. These are good looking watches. You actually appropriately used sapphire. And the Precisionist movement is a great quartz movement that needs to continue to be developed and you're using it in an actually reasonably sized and classically styled watch. Precisionist line needs more of this. Not sure if I'll end up getting one of these but they are enticing and I hope these do well enough that Bulova considers doing more Precisionist watches like these.

I finally saw one at Macy's and the bracelet isn't all the heavy compared to many Tissot, Mido, and Hamilton watches. I like the fact Bulova finally made a Precisonist watch with a smaller case size. I really want to buy a JetStar watch with that pretty red dial but not sure if there is enough removable end links for someone with a 6 inch wrist.

That sweeping second hand. That dial. And the accuracy. And the price! Honestly for us guys who cannot afford luxury watches like Rolex or even Tudor for that matter, this is an absolute must for anyone who loves watches. Bracelet is quite nice and I love the red dial. Looking for deals right now!

I never thought I would buy a Bulova, they have made models in the last years which are quite unappealing and either too noisy, too big or too uninteresting for my taste. I only would have considered one of their military / field watches.
But some weeks ago I stumbled upon the Bulova Oceanographer with the black dial and red accents and while the cheap non-hacking Miyota 8215 was a bit of a let-down, I just love the vintage aesthetics and the quite unique indices on that watch.
I just ordered the Bulova Jet Star with the red / burgundy dial today (sorry, I live in Europe, so I ordered it here...) out of the same reasons I bought the oceanographer. I think it looks gorgeous and it has just the perfect amount of vintage looks. The case design and overall looks reminded me of the Citizen Series8, which I quite liked did not get because they look a bit too industrial for me and I did not like the crown guard on those. So this Bulova hits a sweet spot again. I am thinking about getting the gold tone, too...

  • @davidhill3939

Bulova not marketing and selling this movement to other manufacturers is keeping the lion in the cage. Think of any popular automatic and you have a host watch for this movement that would sell like hotcakes. A true quartz crisis. Having said this, I’ll buy what Bulova have on offer (as long as it fits my skinny wrist). In fact, I bought the red and the gold Jet Stars. Thanks for the video!

  • @szendrenko

One of the best releases of the year at any price. Mine is much more accurate than Bulova's stated values. It's a very Japanese thing to do - claim one thing, but actually be significantly better.

I own an older Bulova with the Precisionist movement and the sweep of the seconds hand is mesmerizing. It's a shame that the vast majority of models with this movement have been ugly as sin (like, Invicta level ugly). This new Jet Star range is certainly a step in the right direction.

I am a Bulova fan. They occasionally offer watches with the wow factor. They are like the Pontiac of old of watches; they can be innovative, sporty and luxurious but don't always get the credit they deserve.
I wish that Citizen and Bulova would introduce a hybrid eco-drive powered precisionist movement. It seems so obvious.

I own the Bulova Lunor Pilot. I wear that watch almost daily. I respect the quartz movement due to it’s accuracy. But to see the same frequency and a sweeping second hand here, I think it’s probably the best quartz watch out there.
Some quartz haters have to consider the art that the sweeping second hand offers. But like anything, time will tell since this is a legitimate new watch.

The questions that give me the most pause... is the movement reliable longterm, does the Precisionist movement contain plastic cogwheels? How reliable is a quartz crystal oscillating @262khz longterm? I'm kinda obsessive detail disordered (and what seasoned watch enthusiast isn't) when it comes to any watch over a certain threshold price point. Maybe my expectations are too high given the price point of the Bulova Jet Star.

I swear Bulova does everything in their power to *discourage* buyers from using their watches in real use-case scenarios. Their military watches have 30m water resistance, and their Marine Star divers have 100m. This watch would be a slam-dunk with 100m water resistance. Yeesh, but no one ever accused a Bulova of being rugged.
    Here's the marketing meeting.
"Oh how cool, a modern interpretation of a classic icon." Bulova: "Yes!"
"A world-class movement, too! The epitome of quartz and a real luxury." Bulova: "You know it!"
"Excellent fit and finish, looks like a great bracelet, modern proportions. A real stunner." Bulova: "Glad you like it."
"I'm sure it has the water resistance rating to give it real-world application...right?" Bulova: ......
    "RIGHT??"

You must live a very different life to mine, I've never dived more than 10m in my entire life, and I'm not planning on going much deeper any time soon

...and my volvo has 4 wheels and an engine, but that doesn't make it suitable for going off-road. That's not how it works and you know it. This thing has one of the world's most advanced (read: sensitive) quartz movements. Even a shred of moisture could potentially ruin it. That's why top manufacturers have temperature and humidity control in their manufacturing. That's why even Bulova doesn't recommend you *swim* with a 30m water resistance rating even though, har-har, you'll never be diving further than that the entire time. I've had 100m watches fail while swimming laps at the gym.
Simply put, a 100m water resistance rating is *not* *hard* to pass, especially for a global manufacturer like Bulova, they just have to care enough to do it. You would think that for 600-800 bucks and with a dazzling new quartz movement, they would care enough. But they don't, because that's what they do.

@@matthewsanders6499 a more apt analogy would be driving a truck but never getting it muddy. 30WR is often called splash proof, but some manufacturers build watches to pass 3 bar with that description. 50WR has always been 50WR afaik.
If your 100WR watch failed within warranty, that's a faulty watch, if your 100WR failed out of warranty, you presuambly didn't have your seals checked and the gaskets failed as they were no longer in spec.
Watches aren't just forever their rated water resistance.
A 50WR should be good to 5 bar within its warranty period: if it fails then that's a warranty issue. Ergo, if you never dive below 50 metres you shouldn't need a watch with greater than 50WR.

@@Horizontalvertigo 50m watches aren't even rated for surfing or anything more intensive than casual swimming. Know why? Because meters of water resistance is a measure of putting a watch inside a tube and adding pressure. In other words, a test case that never applies to the real world. Calling something 30m and really secretly don't tell anyone considering it "splash proof" is exactly the standard of the industry. You wouldn't go swimming, or even showering, with a very nice expensive piece with 30m resistance, and you know it. Bulova themselves say you shouldn't swim with one of their 30m rated watches. So yeah, still don't think their 50m rating is all its cracked up to be. They don't prioritize water resistance, they never have, and it is why they're still thought of as pretty-looking mall watches by the general public.

@@matthewsanders6499 Do you even know how a watch is tested for water resistance? 50m is enough for almos everything. And the most people wearing dive watches didnt dive in their whole life. And of course: No one would dive with this watch. 50m is enogh for everyday use.

They're modern Bulovas... Fantastic value and nice to wear, but consider them a write-off as soon as you walk out the store. That said, there are some classic Bulova pieces that have fantastic movements and do well in the used market. Don't know of any modern one that does.

    • @vinscenzowright
      @vinscenzowright Před 8 měsíci

@grootbatavia that's true but for someone who isn't really a collector so much as just enjoys a nice watch they're great. Also, you can always pass them down and begin your kids watch journey too.

Tried these on today. They wear pretty thick, the polishing is distorted and the brushing isn’t as good as most cheaper watches. Great dial, nice hand sweep. Meh for that price tbh.
