I'm a UNC grad (graduate class of 1992) and I think Hannah-Jones did the right thing in choosing Howard over UNC and did it in precisely the right way, guaranteed to maximize UNC's embarrassment. They have no one to blame for this debacle but themselves.

Her work is Exemplary! To bring her literal wealth on board to any establishment is a great benefit to that entity and everyone it serves. UNC Chapel is showing their level of foolishness and racism, so she doesn't belong there. She is too valuable to be stifled in such a place. I wish her ALL THE BLESSINGS HER SPIRIT CAN HOLD! The 1619 Project is OUTSTANDING!!! I am so proud of her KNOWING and STANDING in her POWER and not fold on her WORTH! It’s the worst feeling ANY student should have to endure. *Abusive and hostile.*
It just goes to show, it doesn't matter how much money you have to donate to a racist institution in order to get your name in stone there, if you are a racist at heart that is what you will forever be remembered for, and rightly so. Big up Nikole Hannah-Jones, take your talent elsewhere to a more worthy institution and leave UNC with the stink and stain that has resulted from this debacle.
Democracy Now does not care about you. Democracy Now is not aimed at you, does not call you to see if you approve of the daily line up of news stories. So what is your point? Are you going to stop watching because they did a story you don't care about? Do you think that Democracy Now will miss you?

It’s ok for journalists to fail as an academic. Academia requires peer review and acceptance of quality research. Many other have failed at academic positions. Move on.
