    Here comes hurricane "Beryl"! Hopefully it stays south. 😎

      @JRTurgeon13 Před 15 dny

      "Beryl" is projected to be a strong category 3 or maybe a low category 4 hurricane so early in the season. Also unusual is a hurricane that is so far South and that goes directly in the Gulf of Mexico, especially so early in the season.

    It's not luck folks it's called good planning which you have just shown in your presentation well done top marks😊

    There is only one choice. You move for one or two weeks for the safety of yourself and others who do not have the ability to leave the area.

    What about insurance. Most people leave the hurricane zone so they don’t loose their insurance coverage. Will you be covered. Agree that you see them coming and you can run. When and where to run too will not be an easy decision. Good luck.

    Another great episode guys. I really think you are you tube top 5. Definitely in my top five. I said the same about Project Atticus at the start. So here’s hoping. Hurricanes ? You have to read Wyatt’s Hurricane. Desmond Bagley. I love that book. “Flies into the eye”. Yes it’s a thing ! Keep up the great videos - even my dogs love it

    Last season would have been great for your plan, as all storms avoided Bahamas. You have fast boat, which is a plus for early relocation. If you are run over in hurricane hole the fetch is probably the most boat sinking factor over wind.

    Does anyone just sail east into the open ocean, staying clear of the projected hurricane track? I always wondered if you could just towards Africa for for 4 or 5 days and come back when it is safe.

    Good luck! I plan to be in the Bahamas next year doing what you are doing. Nice to see I won't be alone, and I'm not entirely insane Went through Andrew living on land in Coral Gables, and I never want to go through that again Get the hell out of the way ASAP if anything shows up. Seems to me heading South of the track is safer, but what do I know

      Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience before. You are right. We have a southern exit plan as well as a northern one too. All depends on what a storm would do. 👍

    Traditionally, hurricane 'high season' is mid-August to mid-October, with a definite peak in September. With the climate change, the season has been extended, though mostly toward later part of the season. The traditional hurricane starts off Africa, but with super warm sea water, they can form anywhere from inside the Gulf of Mexico, to the Atlantic near the Caribbean to even North of Bermuda.
    "We're going to have 5-6 days advance warning..." is optimistic. It would work with a hurricane with a standard path (starts near Africa, moves westward with recurvature along the Eastern seaboard). With a tropical storm/hurricane that develops closer to the Caribbean, you may get 3 days or less. Also a hurricane that, for several days, is predicted to hit the Dominican Republic (or South of the DR) may change course and hit the Bahamas, further lessening your advance warning.
    With a sailboat, you can't outrun a hurricane which travel mostly at 10-15 knots (it usually slows down when it moves up the Caribbean archipelago).
    Finally the decision to abandon the boat may seem like an objective decision: "When it gets (this) bad, we'll abandon". But it's really easy, natural even, to tell yourself: "I think it won't get much worse. We can tough it out.". If it's been blowing 30-40 knots for several hours (far below tropical storm strength BTW), can you manoeuver the boat to a dock or get in the dinghy and get everybody safely to shore?

    Wishing you guys the best. With all the talk of wars and rumors of war, do you have a contingency plan for navigation in the event of downed communications such as hard copy maps to various destinations? it's something we prepares pay attention to for traveling to bug out locations.

    I live in Florida and the BEST hurricane information is by a CZcams channel called "Mr Weatherman". He spends ALL of his time discussing the weather between Africa and the US with the bulk of his time south of the US. Meteorology is my hobby and I give him 5 stars out of a possible 5 stars. Question; Doesn't your boat insurance get cancelled if you are in a hurricane zone after June 30th? Stay safe!! Your could be inline for a possible tropical depression/storm in about 5 or so days

    Hi there. You didn't mention the reason you have decided to go this route, curious as to what that is. Will tell you about our experience from 19 years ago. We spent hurricane season in Bahia Del Sol, El Salvador. An area known to be a good hurricane hole, with very very little history of hurricanes coming close. Well guess what. One came, not a big one, believe it was "just" rated as a category one. This is back when the season was not considered to be as extended nor as volatile as it is now. The hurricane was forecasted to hit right over us, we were designated to be the eye. In fact, we and the other boats at this location were in direct contact with NOAA during the course of its transit, as it was the first time the eye was ever to hit this area. We were prepared and shaking in our boots as we were there, thinking we picked a "safe spot". At the very last minute, maybe a couple of hours from when forecast to hit, it drastically changed course South and while we saw storm force winds, we were spared the worst of it. I imagine you are thinking, ah, but this was sooooo long ago, 19 years, the forecasting is so much better now, that was ancient times. I do not believe anyone in NOAA would say they can guarantee you a forecast for 5-6 days, maybe a good idea in 48 hours, and bottom line, mother nature remains unpredictable. Even more so these days. Just wonder why you have made this decision. Your decision of course. Wonder too what you will do with the dogs if the option of flying out arises. I do not think most if any airlines will allow dogs in cargo that time of year and they look a little big to fit under the seat. ;-) Stay safe. Wish you the best.

    As far as their accuracy in predicting where the hurricanes make land fall is 80 percent wrong all the time. That’s the joke here in Florida as they are never right until 2 days before it hits. Which then it’s too late.

    Night Vision Goggles - I don't understand why boaters like you don't have Night or Thermal Vision Goggles for situations like coming into an anchorage or avoiding small boats/objects without lights.
